So my high school psychology and Theory of Knowledge teacher is a local musician
Going to take my little brother to go see this for his birthday. He wants to be an actor when he grows up so I think he'll really enjoy it. I'm also going to support some of my friends who are part of the crew.
Update for 10/2/2017
I'm still doing my obligations as a uk freshman. I go to school, do my homework, keeping up with my extracurriculars. The only thing I've done differently is I've started going to a calc tutor. I was really nervous since I've always been a tutor and not a tutee but the tutor was really nice and helpful. Uk has a bunch of great sources for its students.
A fun way you can spend time with friends is by beating them in SMASH(!!) really nice after finishing a difficult math assignment.
My first Spanish oral exam was in Patty Office Tower. It's a pretty intimating building since it has about a billion floors.
Another way I can get involved with wrfl is by doing CD reviews
Eli Capiluto is coming to Boyd?? How does talking to teachers/the president of the university aid students? Does he get to meet with the commuter students?
Due to being involved with the radio station I was able to become friends with a guy that happened to have an extra ticket to a Father John Misty concert. It was a crazy cool surprise and experience that was made possible just by being involved in a program I care about and not being afraid to talk to people with similar interests. I also think as a student it’s important to focus on school work but also making time to enjoy life.
After I had checked out the Lexington Philharmonic, I decided it would be cool to figure out when the UK Symphony Orchestra performs and what they’ll be playing. When I was at rehearsal for UK Wind Symphony, I noticed this outside the hall. They have a bulletin board filled with advertisements for different performances by the College of Fine Arts and professional groups around Lexington. I like looking over those kinds of posters, because they help show what is going on around campus. By offering a variety of performances throughout the year, they cater to a wide range of students.
Here is a website offering more information about the group: http://finearts.uky.edu/music/ensembles/uk-symphony-orchestra
Really cool!! I’ve gone to some of the performances in the past I’m excited to go this year--thanks to this post I have the schedule for this year. This is related to my blog because I also find the art events around campus exciting.
This is late night movies at memorial hall. I like the concept and it looks like the movies are actually good. Is this a club? Who sponsors the showings?
On my blog I’ve mentioned the Late Night films and I’ve gone to several of them it’s a really good thing uk does. It would be cool to sometime in the future be more than just a viewer but figure out how to be more involved in the club
Club Sports
If you played sports in high school and want to continue playing at the college level I would highly recommend playing a club sport. Here at UK there is a very large selection of sports to play and anyone is welcome to come and try out. Currently I am playing two club sports; volleyball and lacrosse. I practice 3 days a week for volleyball and 2 for lacrosse. For volleyball we travel about once a month and same with lacrosse. It is nice because even though we are not on the varsity team we still cary the “student athlete” status and receive all of the same rights as a varsity athlete does even though it is less time demanding. It is also a great way to stay active in college.
I found this interesting because I played lacrosse in high school and was wondering about how to go about being involved at UK. Being on the club would be amazing and good for me--it’s just complicated how to find the balance between school work, extracurriculars, job and spending time with friends/family.
This is a traditional machete dance. I viewed this at the Latin American Festival
Being a part of the UK community is important but so is being a part of family. I go back home and take my siblings out to cool local events or parks. Problem: Being a full time student with a job takes away from time you can spend with family
Found this on the way to the YMCA
They took the car for tests runs and some things broke/ we found out just how bad they were. My team was tasked with brainstorming new materials/ ways to engineer a seat. Race car seats can be the same soft material normal car seats are made up. Due to physics: F∆t=∆p
Went to another training session for wrfl. It’s going well I’ll get to shadow someone soon (exciting stuff!!!)
For the Week of 9/18/2017
I forgot to do this weeks blog entry. Honest mistake, I’m not adapted to being on the medias this much. About my junior year of high school I felt always being “connected” to people on the internet keeps us from going out to have conversations and living life. I’ve quickly found people here that have similar interests and hobbies as me. I also believe I was able to do that more quickly than some of my friends because of my dislike for social media--I needed to go out and join clubs because I felt like I lost connection with some of my friends from high school. The people I’ve met through the radio station and Formula-One are hella cool. Through doing those two things I’ve found more clubs I’m interested in. Physics club, print making club, there/s a philosophy club, etc etc.
