You know what i want to see in Stranger Things 3?
Jonathan Byers. And i don’t mean “Will’s brother” or “Nancy’s boyfriend”. I want to see Jonathan Byers. I want to see him applying for scholarships for colleges. I want to see him take photographs again. I want to see him having friends. I want to see Joyce actually paying attention to him.
I know that in ST2 Will was going trough so much stuff, so obviously Joyce’s attention was 100% on him, but Jonathan disappeared and she didn’t even notice! We always talk about Karen’s horrible parenthood this season, but at least she thought she knew where Nancy and Mike were.
I want to see Jonathan break. He’s such an amazing brother. He understands that Will is Joyce’s #1 priority.But no one is ever able to go through so much lack of attention without exploding. He has every right to be angry. Look at how his life is going! But he’s still so smart and so understanding and so sweet that he says nothing. It doesn’t matter to him if he’s not happy.
I also want to see him being happy with Nancy. I want Nancy to be someone who cares about him and loves him for who he is and treats him with the love and respect no one gives him. He’s so insecure already, i don’t want Nancy to be someone who makes him feel worse.
Will may have been little when Lonnie left, but Jonathan wasn’t that young. He had to go through his parents fighting fully consious of what was happening. Not only that, but he had been bullied his whole life, and he not only doesn’t let that afect him, but, unlike many characters, he ended up being an amazing human being.
Also, everyone seems to ignore the fact that he stayed with Will in the cold to build “Castle Byers” when his father left. Because it didn’t matter how he felt. It mattered how Will was feeling. He always puts his family first, no matter what. Remember when he and Steve got in a fight? It didn’t matter that they were calling him a pervert, or a faggot. He snapped the moment Steve started insulting his mom, HIS BROTHER.
Let’s not forget the fact that he took Nancy home after he found her drunk, no matter if he was so close to finally get a friend and maybe get over her. And then, he LIED telling Nancy Steve told him to take her home. He could have just said the truth, but he didn’t. No matter how much he loved Nancy, if Nancy was happy with Steve, he wasn’t going to do anything to ruin that.
And he’s still not getting any kind of respect.
Jonathan may not be anyone’s favorite character, but he deserves to get as praised as Steve.
So yeah, i want to see Jonathan Byers on ST3.
