Here is another business card design I did for another family friend. She was starting up a waxing business from home so this required a few different sections to the card. She needed the address because thats where customers would go for the product. Another unique factor of this design was the fact that she wanted an appointment reminder on the back of the card, she chose to have this so that she didn't have to print off 2 different types of cards for appointments and business.
With the client not starting his business up fully for another year there was no rush for a website design yet. Instead I coded just a simple page just to show that a website is in progress and also had all the relevant information needed. This was just to make it look more professional incase any customers looked up his website. To make the one page site a little more interesting I added a small animation so that the different elements of the page fade in after each other, adding this made the site not look like one still image on a page and helped show that they were separate sections.
When the client had seen the logos there was one that he liked anyway so I didn’t need to make any more changes or adjustments to it. This was the final business card design we decided on. The design had all the contact details and information on and was very simple, the list of services provided was underneath the logo just to give customers an idea of what the brand offers.
I got approached by a friend of the family who wanted a logo and business card sorting for his business he was starting. The business wasn’t going to be taken on full time for another year so there wasn’t a major rush for the design work. The client had a clear image of the style of Logo he wanted with the initials and the shape so i set out a few different examples with font and colour variations so he could decide on what he liked from there.
The networking event was really fun, It was the first event like that I had been too so I wasnt too sure what to expect at first but when i got there and the agencies started coming in I started to get a feel for it and became more comfortable speaking to people form the industry. I got good feedback on the night about my presentation skills and confidence and also got some pointers on ways to improve and change my portfolio. This was definitely a helpful night and I look forward to doing more of the same in the future.
In time for the networking event I had to get a portfolio sorted. With a lot of my work being digital rather than print based I was torn between making an interactive PDF or to use behance. I ended up choosing behance because of the companion app they have with it where you can sync with a phone or tablet. This will let me use my Ipad on the night to show off some of the videos I have made.
This is the edited video of the stop motion I made. The idea is that this could either be used as part of the promotional material on the social pages we have for the event or be used as part of the showreel on the night of the event.
As we were printing the hats we had the idea to set a camera up and take pictures of each one as we put it onto the drying rack. I could then make a short stop motion showing off the amount of hats we made, this could also be used as part of the documentary that will be played on the night.
spent the day in the print room printing the sals takeaway logo onto 200 hats ready for the networking event.
After the web session it made me want to start to get a website uploaded for myself. This was a process I didnt know anything about with web hosting and domain names so it was interesting finding out how to do that. At first I just decided to use the website I coded last year and tweaked the code slightly just to have a website up and running that said “new website coming soon.” I wanted to have a website just to have something I coded myself live that I will add onto in the future.
The advanced web sessions from shape were really helpful. I refreshed myself with what I had already learned last year and also learned how to add animations using css and a few other helpful tricks.
The talk we received from Andy from Shape about freelance work helped me throughout the year. Going free lance was something that I was always considering through out my degree and after hearing the talk and the advice he offered I ended up deciding that it wasn’t for me. Free lance wasn’t something that I wanted to do full time but definitely something I would like to do alongside any other work I get.
On Monday lunchtimes we are having meetings about the networking event where we discuss where we want to go with it and all help come up with ideas of what to produce for the event.
Today we had talks from several designers about their experience and how they got where they are now and what tips they would give. I found this very useful as it made me realise a few things I should change. A few things I picked up were how useful social media is to showing your active and getting yourself out there, I already use tumblr but I think i should look into getting a twitter account or instagram for my personal work.
Menu The menu on the app slides out from the side and pushes the page you were on across, this is so that It doesn't confuse with any of the colours or text and makes it clearer to see your options. From here you can navigate to any of the other pages and also have the option to sign out.
Settings page Settings are needed on all apps and this just makes it able to suit the needs of more customers. The language setting helps it reach more people and the options to sign out automatically when closed reinforce the feeling of safety and trust that HSBC wanted to reinforce.
Notifications page I felt like this page would be a nice addition to the app, although it might not be necessary I thought that the ability to do everything from the app without leaving it would be more ideal. This page is for either creating notifications of your own if you would like to or to automatically create them with any meeting or appointment you make via the app. This is to make the whole house buying process organised and seem less hectic than it could be otherwise. All the colours from the HSBC guidelines have been used again and the red bar on the side adds colour and is a little notion towards the red line all HSBC letters and print have on the right hand side.
