Black & Blue || Zak & Ayanna
ailes-de-fleurs :
It was probably not the best idea to go on a hunt when she was tormented by the thoughts of someone’s death. To surround oneself with more death seemed counter intuitive. However, hunting always helped Ayanna clear her mind. It wasn’t so much about the kill as it was about the chase and the focus. She wasn’t looking for sustenance, wasn’t so hard pressed that she really needed to catch a game. Ayanna just required that adrenaline flow to burn away the thoughts plaguing her mind. She could still hear the clatter of the sword that Wolfgang flung at her feet, echoing in her mind.Â
Dusk gave way to night. The darkness of the night gave way to the light of dawn. Ayanna spent all of those hours alone in that forest, chasing different animals, tiring out her overworked, undernourished body, in the hopes of clearing her head. The sorrowful thoughts faded back into her mind like a dull ache that she could live with. As long as it wasn’t like someone was holding her heart inside their hand and squeezing it tight, she could function. Eventually she did catch a few quails that she tied together to bring back to Sanctuary so that no one appears suspicious of her disappearance. Trading the game birds off, she trudged back to her small home to have a quick wash and perhaps catch a few minutes of rest if her mind would allow that.
However, as she approached her place she noticed the all too familiar face from the distance and rose her brows in surprise. “Hey!” She called out warmly while walking up to him. “Isn’t it a little too early to be up and about?” Ayanna jested with a small amused smile which was quite dim as compared to her usual smile whenever she was with Zak.
As he heard the sound of footsteps walking towards him, he lifted his head. The dim light from the sunrise made it easier to see, but he could tell by their gait who it was. A half smile graced Zak’s face. Not much of a change to his usual greeting, though the smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. Taking in her words, he laughed a little as he answered. “I didn’t sleep.”
Looking at the messy state she was in due to her time hunting, he felt bad for waiting for her. Hand reached up to rub his neck in embarrassment as he let out a small sigh. He should have slept, his mind was everywhere due to it running on fumes. Opening his eyes wide to try and take in as much light as he could in an effort to wake himself up. “I can wait if you want to clean up.” He paused for a moment before adding, “Or we can talk later.” What were a few more hours to him? Maybe he would get some sleep, or wander the town square.
Zak didn’t bother to look into her mind for the answer even if it took no effort and at a time like this, it felt like an invasion into her most sensitive feelings. The only person he liked to open up and talk to was Ayanna, so when they were in a predicament he liked to address his feelings and opinions and listen to hers.
