Meta: Miss Moxxi — a Deep Dive on the Ultimate Survivor

I’ve wanted to write up my read on Moxxi for a while now. Her personal history has some truly horrifying implications when you piece together the ingredients the games give us; her canon goes to some pretty dark places, even for Borderlands. And I gotta say, it’s not always handled sensitively—shocker, right?

When you look at Moxxi less as a series of ‘quirky’ TMI anecdotes, and more as a coalescence of all those unsettling things, one image begins to emerge. Moxxi has the psychological profile of a victim of serious abuse. And I would contend this is something you kind of intrinsically know about her as the player, but maybe haven’t spent much time dwelling upon.

As an abuse survivor myself, albeit not in the same ways, I relate to Moxxi in ways that fandom doesn’t often touch upon. So I wanted to consolidate my thoughts, and outline why that contextualises even a lot of her more debated actions.
