“I don’t dabble in politics. S’bad for business.” Undertaker said with a chortle, happy to keep the steady pace. It wasn’t ‘fore long their paths would diverge, or continue. Crossroads were finicky things, after all. “But from my understandin’, s’only been about a few months, though thinkin’ on it… might’ve been a year. Haven’t really been out an’ about since th’last skirmish.” Bad for business, as he said.
Still though, he clicked his tongue, “Think we might be in for some stablisin’ years though. Which means busy work fer me. ‘Ve got books t’hunt an’maps to remake.” Something that the lorekeep was looking forward too. Stars knew how long it’d been since he’d actually had something to do aside from dusting a few books and hoping someone would stop by.
Say.
“Where y’headed? Lookin’ f’r a town?” There’s a curious head tilt back, enough for him to keep his eyes hidden as he eyed Frieren curiously. Haven’t seen her kind around in a while, those ears were a dead giveaway. “Or lookin’ f’r somethin’ else?”
—— 𝔈ven a year seemed awfully short for an Age of Fire. Many hopes were placed in the undead to carry the lord vessel to the kiln and light the flame anew—thinking that the hero would only last an entire year before succumbing completely was unfortunate. But well, humans were always short-lived, and why would it be different with the undead?
Slender fingers reached for the ends of her left ponytail, which she wrapped around her fingers. Now that another Age of Fire was secured, she could continue her mission to her heart's content again.
" I don't know yet, " Frieren admitted. " Probably where I'm needed. "
But that could be anywhere and nowhere at the same time. A small smile tugged at her lips. She could head back to the archives and see what the other scholars and researchers were up to. But Seath was displeased with her—she was not allowed to return for the next thousand years.
" I want to learn more about mankind and their daily lives. It has been centuries and I still don't understand them at all. "
"I'm a... machine that turns malfunctioning into Heysel then!"
" Almost as if you can't spell Heysel without malfunctioning. "
But she had to admit that she, too, was maidenless. Perhaps one could not spell Frieren without malfunctioning either. How accurate.
" Why keep collecting runes if you can't use them? "
@zaubersammler replied to your post “// some things of er heysel's behavior become...”:
maidenless...
"I'm a machine that turns runes into absolutely nothing."
" Does this count as malfunctioning, then? "
“Clean out o’spells, but I got some books. Y’can take a gander at ‘em if’n y’want?”
" What kind of books? "
Frieren Art Nouveau Style
“That’d be mighty useful! What ch’want in return for th’spell?”
" A grimoire or another spell. "
❛ i’ve never seen a dragon before, what are they like? ❜

—— 𝕾he curled her index finger and brought it to her mouth, tapping against her lip once and then twice while thinking. Had Fern really never seen a dragon before? There had been a time in which dragon hunting had been a frequent occurrence among the knights and adventurers. Princesses abducted by dragons. Dragons making their lairs in castles with too much gold and other treasures. Now that Frieren thought of it…
How long had it been since the last time she herself had seen a dragon with her own eyes?
The prospect of retrieving a family sword from a dragon's lair had been so familiar to her from past decades that she had not questioned it before. Interesting. She turned her head towards her apprentice.
" Dragons are drawn to gold and magic and like building their nests with them. Many adventurers and knights tried raiding their liars, but not many survived. "
And she vividly remembered the detour Himmel had wanted them to take to have a look at a liar. It had been quite close, if she could say so herself.
" When we face the dragon, you have to mind its scales, Fern. They're resistant to most magic. "
“Cor! Didn’t know there were magic f’r chocolate eggs!”
" It's one of the newer spells. One of the townspeople showed it to me after I helped them. It can cool your bags too, if you like to. "
“Here y’go!” A small bag filled to the brim with cadbury eggs is plopped into Frieren’s hand. “I’d keep ‘em in a cool place if’n y’want ‘em t’not be soft.”
" I have the perfect spell to keep them cool. Always. " She gently held the small bag in her hands. " Cadbury egg cooling magic. "
“I have plenty leftover! How many y’want?” He had at least… three more bags worth.
Might’ve gone a little overboard.
" One of the little bags? " Fern would scold her for this, yes.
“S’a holiday, ‘m sure Missus Fern’ll be nice enough t’look th’other way…?”
" Maybe if I eat some here and there, she won't notice, yes. Do you have some leftover eggs? "
@zaubersammler replied to your post “Ate his weight worth of cadbury eggs. 10/10 would...”:
Impressive!
Being a grazer does that. And immortal, he guesses.
" I suppose so. If I eat that much, I'll get scolded by Fern. "

—— 𝕿he small hairs at the back of her neck began to raise from the subtle shift of energy that flickered in the air. Or one would have called it intuition or a simple hunch. She turned her head to the side to gaze at the hand on her shoulder and then up to the fellow adventurer. Travelling together for the time being and seeking shelter from the brewing storm did not sound like a bad idea to her.
And in response, Frieren nodded with an equally friendly smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. Besides, he appeared to be a warrior—vanguards were always welcomed company to mages, since the roads have become more dangerous as of late.
" You don't have to carry me. Up the north road is a cabin, " the elven mage responded. " But I haven't been there in a hundred years. Let's hope it's still maintained. "
After all, things like these often vanished in a blink of an eye. There was another problem, however, and she looked around. Bushes. Trees. A rock here and there. But no road. Her ears twitched slightly at the sight. Were they really lost?
She had been sure there had been a road here somewhere.
" Where's the road? "
