<<The Catcher in the Rye>>
A funny thing. I feel like to give goddamn good comment on this book, and unwilling to be phony, to be ruled. But good ones always do.
This can be very childish and all, so please skip it if you can’t stand to be emotional and sensible.
Why I choose to read this book when in my college time? Maybe just for goddamn some English improving stuff. Or maybe I wanna know some thing a bout the typical American Teen in sixteen, at least some kind of them. Maybe just make me feel better than doing nothing all day. Maybe I’ve recited the most classical part of it and I wanna to complete it.
It’ve taken me a whole week to finish it which is a big project and all, which worse it very much.”worse” may sound much phony because how could I know exactly what it will bring me in the future before I really benefit from it. Sounds like a phony, ha?
Holden Caulfield, I wish I have the right name here. Auto-checking system tells me if it is “Coalfield” which I don’t agree, is a boy in 16 who is some typical kind of teen of his age, for instance, I figure that I was one of it when in 16. Wondering a lot of stuff all the time and believing people around me were stupid and phony and all were filling my mind frequently. When got in a fight and didn't get to the superior side, we would make up lots of solutions in our mind to fight back that could even be a kill-stuff or something.
The Spencers, Ackley, Stradlater, D.B. Caulfield, Allie, Phoebe, Sally, Jane Gallagher and somebody else.
Three days hanging out in New York City shew a lot things of it. I wouldn't give a brief clew of the people and places and stories that happened in the few three days, It’s boring ya know, and the point is I just couldn't remember. At the first part of the adventure, you could tell Holden was fed up with the school boys who studied all day to be smart enough to buy himself a Cadillac, or talked about girls and sex and liquor and all. Everybody sticks together in these dirty little goddamn cliques. That sucks! And the faculty guys and the headmaster were all phony. After he got out of the school, things didn't seemed to be easier. It was to late for a school student to give a buzz to somebody in the same age in the mid night so that he had to come out the phone booth. As a minor he was not allowed to drink Scotch and soda, which he loves most, so he could only had Coke instead. He danced with three Seattle girls. Keep asking the taxi driver about the Central Park’s ducks. He kept thinking if Stradlater had give Jane the time or not. People in the bar, especially the midnight, were almost all jerks and all. They talked about stupid things as hell. He told the elevator boy he wanted a girl but when the whore was there in his room, he didn't get in the mood at all. They even came back to his room robbed more five bucks from him and gave his a smack on the stomach.Dating with Sally didn't seem to be a swell stuff. He told her his plan and wanna take her away with his but all he got was a mistaken and much more depression. The final part of the book could be a little bit positive, I mean just a little bit. He sneaked into home to meet Phoebe. Old Phoebe is so affectionate! The last three chapter is much more like the author wanted to give an corny education and give an end to Holden. I couldn't understand the meaning of Mr.Antolini being a pervert.
But old Holden was still too young then, all his judgement were according to the few people he got acquainted to, especially at school and his family. He loves what he loves and he hates what he hates, that’s it. No one could even change his mind if he’ve said you are a phony, mostly you are, I have to admit that. There were some certain things that can knock him out and “kill” him - it took me a long time to understand the word “kill”. He really loves some people, Allie, Jane Gallagher and Phoebe, for instance. You could see it when he kept thinking Jane and Stradlater and made it clear that he hadn't had sex with her, which sounded ridiculous but was the truly thought to our favorite girl that time.I was wandering that he was almost desperate to death the moment he broke up the record to Phoebe. My heart was broken with the record then. I mean it. I really do.Little Shirley Beans.
Each person, each stuff, each conversation, and each psychological activity are carefully and specifically described to details as hell by the author, J.D. Salinger. That why lots of people and I wish The Catcher in the Rye shall NEVER be adapted into a movie. One thing is, a movie will never show all the emotions precise. Another thing, movie will too phony to spoil it. Period.
Old Phoebe made Holden to stay which maybe the only reason that could make Holden to stay. I feel kind of sorry for him. Some people say that it means that finally Holden felt like being a phony like others and gave in to the society. But I prefer to believe that he was just gonna to defend Phoebe, the only angle he loved then, and the other innocent kids, instead of being a deaf and hiding in the cabin in some wood. All he wanted to be was the catcher in the rye. How I wish I’d have a little sister or daughter like Phoebe! Maybe I want two children in my life. One big brother and one little sister. And I’ll tell the brother to be a catcher of his sister and all.
