Sorting Zelda Monsters

This is not meant to be accurate to the Zelda Lore, such as it is. Complaints along these grounds will only be heard if funny.

Introduction!

Hello! I, having a surplus of free time and ideas, have elected to create this blog! I will go through various monsters from the Legend of Zelda series of video games, talk about them, and, based on their designs, behaviors, and a healthy dose of imagination, determine whether they fall to the following categories.

Beast: Here meaning an nonsapient animal, created via the natural way.

Created Being: Either of mechanical of magical origin, a being that wouldn't exist without being created by an outside power.

Person: Sapient beings.

I have not played every zelda game, and as such my posts will be biased towards using information from games I have played.

KEESE

First appearance: The Legend of Zelda (NES)

'Oh, this is easy' you may say. 'Oh, they're just bats with a silly name' To this I say YOU FOOL! Though appearing to be simple bats, they are in fact, I believe, demons. Or components thereof. let me explain.

Locale: Caves and Dungeons.

Characteristics:

Keese are small and bat-like, with large, glowing eyes.

Behaviors:

The Keese, in large groups, lie in wait for a hero to pass through; When they spot their prey they use team-tactics and erratic, unpredictable movements to kill their target.

The Keese are called into the world when dark power is on the rise, in order to feed off of the suffering and struggle.

Now you may ask 'hey where are you getting this from' to which I present the second part of this post.

Vire

First appearance: The Legend of Zelda (NES)

Now do you start to see where I'm going?

Locale: Dungeons

Characteristics:

The Vire is large, demonic looking being composed of multiple keese.

Behaviors:

Vires are stronger and cleverer than keese, and occasionally work as direct minions under a villain.

It is my belief that, rather than merely a magically created monster, Vire is a 'more whole' form of an ancient, nameless demon.

This demon suffered a defeat at some point in the distant past, and much like how the Vire can split into smaller Keese when defeated, the demon was scattered across time and space. If every vire and keese were to come together at last, the world would be doomed.

THE OCTOROK

First Appearance: The Legend of Zelda (NES)

Of course, our first subject of investigation is the noble Octorok! The classic foe for green kids named link to fight.

Locale:

The Octorok is wide-ranging, living in deserts, plains, mountains, and beaches.

Characteristics:

The Octorok is a land-dwelling cephalopod with large eyes and an enlarged front-facing siphon. Can have between 8-4 arms.

Behaviors:

Octoroks use their siphon to hurl large stones as both a defensive measure and a hunting technique. Their movements are often sluggish and jerky. They are often found in groups, perhaps in a 'pack'. there is little data on Octorok reproduction, but the 'Octoballoon' sighting indicates a violent birthing process.
