WHY do fandoms for media with female MCs ALWAYS latch onto some rando guy instead
I miss feeling hopeful
using violence to liberate people from sweatshops, unsafe mines, and grinding poverty isn't the same as using violence to impose those things on people. the idea that violence is morally repugnant regardless of context is a belief that every oppressor throughout history would love for the oppressed to hold
John Steinbeck, East of Eden
sigh why do I never learn
I won't hijack the previous post but it's why letting go of the idea that trans women were "men who later became women" was crucial to me understanding how transmisogyny works. idk how it is in more progressive circles now but growing up that's always how trans women were described to me. and it's believing things like that that makes stupid "arguments" like "trans women grew up socialised male and therefore benefitted from misogyny" sound convincing to the average TME person
transmisogynists like to say a lot of uncharitable things about how growing up transfem is like in my experience it's like you put a girl into a box surrounded by boys 5 days a week and let those boys do anything to her free of consequence and if she complains then everyone tells her that it's her fault for not trying hard enough to fit in with the boys and be like them and she is actually socially privileged to be allowed to grow up around boys and they lock her in the box
they keep putting romance in everything. and it isn't even well written romance. they don't even write it well.
see usually I agree that (while I have my fair share of complaints about it) a lot of the "criticisms" about I Love Yoo are really shortsighted and really just kinda based off of assumptions about the plot that don't really hold true anymore it's always hilarious that so many the defenses from fans makes them sound like they just don't read that much. wdym you've never read critical analysis of any other comic
I wish I could channel my middle school self and enjoy mlm romance focused series again but unfortunately I am now aware of the way people talk about women in fandom
reuploaded bc ykw i'm fed up. fandom misogyny bingo

Just finished a reread of My In-Laws Are Obsessed With Me and here are some spoiler-free reasons for why I can't recommend it enough:
The art is immaculate. Not in a flashy or super intense way, though. The artist uses relatively simple compositions to tell SO MUCH. No spoonfeeding, but you also don't get lost
Grown up characters that look and behave like grown ups. Some have power, most have responsibilities, and each are flawed in very human ways
No perfect mc, no perfect pro max love interest
One of the most compelling main characters I've read in this medium. She's not the centre of this universe. She doesn't have everyone falling for her at first sight. She's dealt a rough hand and navigates way through it as best as she can
(Why she gets display icon status)
Slow burn romance done well. There are mistakes, miscommunication and more, but there's also attempts to grow, and learn, and be better. There's also enough politics and mystery to ensure it's paced really well
Consequences!! Actual consequences for choices!!!
(Celphius. You'll know when you get there)
Very compelling ensemble cast too
Genuinely gripping mystery. Those fond of theorising as they read will have plenty to fill their clue board with as the story progresses
A villain that really has your skin crawl when they appear
Humour done so well for a series with an otherwise serious tone
Don't miss little gags in the background and in chapter 'covers'
Do not let first impressions of the name, cover image or first chapter fool you
as it definitely did me at first read
You can read the first season and a half(?) for free on Webtoon. Since it's still ongoing (on hiatus between season two at the time of writing this), it's primed for bingeability.
i know it’s so corny and played out when the lesson the protagonist learns is “i have people who genuinely care about me and that is enough” but it gets me every time like girl just imagine
1 thing americans got right was having lockers in school why the fuck didn’t we do that
okay but imagine being head over heels for a girl, having her ask you to get her off with a vibrator, actually going through with it, and laying down in her bed together with a glass of post coitus chocolate milk between you only for her to tell you that she doesn't want to die a virgin and needs to fuck some random asshole before she goes. like girl was your pussy not involved in the sex we just had or does that not count because I haven't gone to my phalloplasty appointment yet?
