“Come on, MC!” Mammon called after you, multicolored stringlights dragging behind him, “it’ll be perfect!”
“No!!” you squeaked back at him as you ran as fast as your little sheep legs could. The avatar of greed had come up with the brilliant idea to wrap you up in lights like a little pink tree and display you on the table filled with cookies for the cookie exchange. Yes, it would be adorable and lead to all the party guests cooing over you but you knew he had an ulterior motive. The jerk wanted to take photos of you, sell them to your fanclub, and pocket all the profit!
You had to get away, get somewhere high up where he couldn’t reach you unless Lucifer strung him up the ceiling again. And who was better to ask than the avatar that was already stuffing his face with the cookies?
“I need to get up high!” you cried as Mammon’s steps grew louder.
Just as Mammon slammed through the doors, Beelzebub gently picked you up and placed you atop his head before going back to the cookies. Mammon scanned the room as he walked up to Beel. “Hey, have you seen MC- HEY!” he tried to ask but once he saw the fluff of pink on top of Beel’s orange, he started jumping to reach you.
“Give her back!” he demanded.
“She asked to be up high,” Beel shrugged as he ate a checkerboard cookie.
Mammon stamped his foot like a child, “but I want to make her a decoration for the party.”
“Did she want to?”
“Well, no-”
“Then no,” Beel shrugged. Mammon let out a pitiful whine as he continued to try and jump up for you. As he finally got tired, Simeon emerged from the kitchen. He held a bowl of star cut-out sugar cookies, still warm from the oven. He walked towards them and laughed at the sight. “What is going on here?” he questioned before sighing, “Beel, you needed to wait for everyone.”
“But it’s so good,” he mumbled around another cookie. Before Simeon could take the bowl from Beel’s hands, the cheerful bounce of Asmodeus and Solomon made their way to the dining room. Asmodeus, in his red and white outfit, twirled around with excitement, “Happy Holidays, everyone!”
Solomon followed behind him with an echoed smile, a dish of… rather strange-looking purple and green lump cookies in his hands. “Yes, happy holidays,” he chuckled as he looked up at you, “found a perch for the evening, I see.”
“It was out of necessity,” you insisted with a pout, causing him to laugh. Intrigued by the colors, Beel picked up one of the cookies and plopped it in his mouth. His eyes glazed over almost instantly after he swallowed.
“What do you think?” Solomon asked.
“... Sleepy…” Beel slurred.
Solomon hummed, “I guess there was too much nightbloom powder.”
“Damnit Beel! You shouldn’t eat something the sorcerer makes-” Mammon tried to scold him but was interrupted by Beel releasing a large purple cloud with a burp in his face.
As soon as the purple glittery cloud hit Mammon’s nose, his eyes glazed over and his knees went weak. Sleep overwhelmed him and he collapsed to the ground, snoring loudly. The cloud traveled up to you on top of his head and immediately, your eyes glazed over. As Beel began to collapse, the angel caught your little sheep body before you could slam down with the gentle giant. You whined, trying to hold your eyes open. Solomon laughed and shook his head, “Sorry about that, MC, but you’ll be okay after a quick nap.”
Simeon smiled and went to set you down on the couch. “Wait,” your small sleepy voice caught his attention.
“Don’t put me down,” you whispered, “he’ll decorate me…”
“Decorate?” Simeon chuckled.
“Mammon… he wants to make me the center piece of the cookies…” You mumbled, nuzzling into his chest.
He felt his cheeks get warm at your affection but smiled. “Shall I hold you then? To keep you safe?”
You nodded and his smile grew. He brought you closer to his chest and sat on the couch. Opening his wings, he wrapped them around the two of you like an extra shield from the light. The sound of the crackling fire and his warmth were quickly lulling you to sleep, but then he started to hum. It was a soft and slow tune, probably a Christmas song but you were too sleepy to be able to tell which one.
However, for a moment, he stopped and let out a “SHH!”
Peeking from the feathers, you saw Solomon and Asmo hunched on the ground, writing on Mammon’s face with a permanent marker. They were trying their best to be quiet, but Asmo couldn’t hold back his laugh as Solomon drew a rocket-ship-sort-of-shaped thing on his cheek. You rolled your sleepy sheep eyes and called out to the sorcerer, “Solomon, your cookies suck.”
The laughs Simeon tried to hold in, his chest heaving, didn’t deter you from closing your eyes and entering the land of dreams, just for a little while.

“Are you guys seriously still up?” Belphegor attempted to flip his bangs out of his eyes as he entered Beelzebub and his shared room. The clattering of controllers and yelling at the game on the screen caused the youngest to flee to his attic hideaway for a nap. About an hour passed by before the winter chill entered the room. He stayed for as long as he could bear it, but the warmth of his own bed became more appealing. When he had left, the two of you were sprawled out on the floor. Bags of various snacks in a cardboard box and a fully stocked mini fridge of drinks prepared for a game night of Devi-Kart Racing. You had mentioned Leviathan had declined to join, something about a Ruri-chan live event. But now, you sat in Beel’s lap. His arms hugged softly around your waist with his chin resting atop your head. Devi-Kart Racing had been replaced with a superhero movie, one the two of you barely paid attention to as you scrolled through Devi-Tok together. Currently, you watched as someone cut a bar of soap with a scene from a movie played split-screened.
“It’s only 10,” you looked up from your phone, “it’s not that late.”
Belphie rolled his eyes before making his way to his bed. Climbing in, he pulled the soft plaid blanket to his chin. He hugged his special pillow close to his chest and buried his face into the soft fabric. He could feel sleep start to settle on his shoulders until they shivered from the cold. He pulled the blanket tighter to him. He tried to ignore the cold but your laugh caught his attention. He peeked over to the two of you.
You were excitedly showing Beel your phone, his laughs joining your giggles. Beel nuzzled his cheek into the top of your head. You snuggled deep into his chest, causing his arms to hug tighter around you. Paired with the blue snowflake sweater Asmodeus got you for Christmas, you looked so… so warm. With a disgruntled sigh, he stood from his bed with the blanket wrapped around his shoulders. He stalked back over to the two of you and glared down. When you saw him, you swallowed nervously, “Was I being too loud?... I’m sorry Belphie.”
“Get up,” he muttered. Okay, he could have worded it better. He knew when he saw sadness flicker in your eyes. He felt guilt well-up in his chest while watching you stand. “I’m sorry, I-I guess I’ll leave-”
He grabbed your wrist as you turned to leave, “No, wait. I didn’t mean it like that.”
Not letting go, he took your spot in Beel’s lap and pulled you into his. He wrapped his arms around you, pushing your face into his chest as he leaned back into Beel. He nuzzled his cheek against your temple, “I’m cold.”
He felt you pout as you wrapped your arms around him, “You could’ve just said so.”
“I like being difficult.”
“We know.”
He felt Beel’s chest vibrate against his cheek as the older brother laughed. Beel laid his head on top of Belphie’s, his arms wrapping around the two of you. He mumbled softly, “my two favorite people…”
Belphie smiled as he hugged you tighter. His eyes fluttered closed, sleep finally overtaking him. The warmth of you and Beel kept the winter freeze away. It made his chest feel warm too.

It had become a routine for the other brothers to find the three of you all curled up together during Belphie’s naps. While typically you all slept, sometimes it was just Belphie. His head would rest against your chest as you watched videos on your phone. Beel would hold the two of you in his arms while watching over your shoulder. Lucifer, Leviathan, and Satan would brush it off once they got used to it. Mammon would pout, but deny any invitation to join. Belphie’s glare was enough to ward him off. Asmodeus would coo at how cute you all were, snapping pictures and sharing them through Devilgram. The posts had even sparked a fan account, Demon Cuddle Pile.
Since the two of you were waiting for Beel to return from fangol practice for your after school pile, you decided to make him a snack, a snack that translates into a full course meal for Beel. You were doing your best to mash some potatoes then turning to stir the chili on the stove, but having a sleepy Belphegor clinging to your waist made it difficult. He would trudge back and forth with you, his face buried in your neck with a blue blanket wrapped around his shoulders. You didn’t have the heart to tell him you were getting frustrated with constantly stepping on his toes, especially with the cute sleepy blinks he’d give you.
You heard Mammon’s irritated groan when he walked into the kitchen, “Are you serious??? In the kitchen too??”
Belphie glared at him from your shoulder, “What’s your problem?”
“What’s yer problem?? All ya ever do is cling to each other! Just ‘cause yer a thing doesn’t mean you can rub it in everyone else’s faces!” Mammon yelled.
“A thing?” you asked, looking at Belphie then back to Mammon. Before Mammon could continue, a gloved black hand grabbed his collar.
“Maaammmmoooon?!” The deep voice caused the second born to gulp. Lucifer yanked him back into the hallway, “How about we go discuss your manners with others’ relationships?”
“No! Lucifer, please-” Mammon’s pleads of mercy and cries of pain echoed down the halls, stopping with a slam to Lucifer’s office door. You heard Belphie chuckle before nuzzling his face back into your neck. Mammon’s phrase kept repeating in your mind. A thing? Were you and Belphie a thing? Or did he mean all three of you? You hadn’t really discussed it but it’s not like you couldn’t say you wouldn’t like it.
You came back to reality when you felt Belphie’s arm leave your waist. He had reached over and stirred the chili pot for you. Before you could ask, Beel walked in with a glazed over eyes and drool dripping from his mouth. He always loved your chili. Belphie handed him the spoon and Beel immediately started shoveling the meat and beans into his mouth. “Beel!” you yelled, “It’s still hot!”
“So good,” he moaned as the broth burned his tongue, “you’re such a good cook.”
You giggled a thank you and grabbed a cold box of Poison Veggie Juice for him to cool his flaming mouth. Watching him eat, you brought your hand to Belphie’s head and laced your fingers into his hair. He sighed happily as you softly scratched his scalp. His arms around your waist tightened.
“Beel? Are we a thing?” you asked as he took a small breather before starting the mashed potatoes.
“A thing?” he looked up in thought, “... I think people count as things.”
“No, Beel,” you giggled, “like, are we dating?”
Beel furrowed his brows when his gaze returned to you, “... Are we not?”
“Neither of you asked!” you laughed as Belphie pouted.
“We cuddle, sleep, and go out together all the time,” the youngest said, “how are we not dating?”
You teasingly returned his pout, “You have to ask someone to be their partner, Belphie, you can’t just assume.”
He rolled his eyes, hugging you tighter around the waist, “Do you not want to be?”
“Of course I do,” you turned in his arms and held his cheeks.
“Both?” Beel rested his head on yours as his arms joined Belphie’s around your middle.
“Why not both?” You looked up at him and then back down to Belphie, “We spend all our time together, anyways. I wouldn’t want anything to come between the two of you either. I love you both, equally. So I want both or neither.”
The two brothers looked at each other before smiling and hugging you tighter. You felt each one press a kiss to your cheeks as they muttered, “I love you too.”
“Are you sure this is what you want?” you asked.
“I want both of you in my life, forever,” Beel hugged you tighter.
“If I have to share you with anyone,” Belphie mumbled, “I’d only share with Beel.”
“It’s settled then!” you smiled big. While the three of you started to discuss boundaries, you all missed the excited buzzing of your DDDs. A quiet fifth oldest had walked in on your confessions and snagged a photo of each brother’s lips pressed to your face. He sent it in the brothers group chat, “Finally together!”
Leviathan: “Took them long enough.”
Lucifer: “Diavolo will be pleased the exchange has led to such development.”
Satan: “Will it kill you to be happy for them as their brother and not as Diavolo’s assistant?”
Lucifer: “Will it kill you to clean up your mess in the library?”
Asmodeus: “Don’t bother, they’ve made it their spot for the afternoon.”

Sebastian kicked the door with his foot, hands full with a cardboard box. He carried it to your now shared bedroom, floorboards creaking under his heavy boots. He placed it gently on the floor next to the black loveseat and wiped the sweat from his brow. Though the space you had given him to do what he wished with was covered in boxes, he couldn’t have felt more at home. It was finally a home where he felt wanted and unjudged, able to leave his computer without feeling alone.
“Kitten? Where’s your box cutter?” he called into the kitchen.
“Drawer next to the sink! Ah shit-”
His obsidian eyes watched you run back out the door to the field, a loud squabble of clucks rang from the coop. Sounded like your oldest chicken, Mrs. Pecks, was throwing a fit. Opening the drawer, he rummaged through it. It was mostly random screws and nails, a few batteries, but what caught his attention was a light gray disposable lighter. It was light, empty, so it had no use. Then why- the memory hit him.
The two of you sat by the lake of his old home, the twilight sky filling with the smoke of his cigarette. In his hand was the frozen tear you gifted him. It was still cold. You lay in the grass next to him, mud smeared on your cheek and exhaustion in your eyes. At the finish of his current cigarette, he pulled out another but groaned when the lighter refused to ignite. “Damnit,” he chucked it into a bush, “empty.”
“Hey,” you glared at him, “you shouldn’t litter. It’s bad for my job, you know.”
He grumbled an apology while watching you crawl to the bush. You pocketed the lighter before standing up. “I’ll see you tomorrow?” you asked as he hid his smile from you, “Gus’s at 5?”
“You would not believe it! Mrs. Pecks thought Perry was stealing her eggs,” your voice broke him out of his remembrance, “she’s getting old so she isn’t laying a lot-”
“You kept this?” he asked, holding up the empty lighter. You felt your cheeks start to burn. Your eyes went to your hands as you fiddled with your fingers. Sebastian chuckled, slowly approaching you with a slight smirk on his lips.
“What else of my trash have you been saving? Some other things I should be worried about?”
“I-It’s not like that!”
“Then what is it like, kitten? Tell me.”
His dark eyes stayed connected to yours that refused to meet his. The intensity of his stare was one you had only seen in the night of your sleepovers. Now that you’re married, you’ll be seeing them a lot more often. You swallowed before answering, “I… you were so mad with your mom that night. You wouldn’t tell me why but you were just so angry… that you looked sad. So, I promised myself that I would do whatever I could to make sure you never looked sad again. I kept it so I would remember the promise. B-but it’s stupid now so we can just-”
His laugh interrupted your words. The look of hunting desire that was once on his face had melted into one of love and admiration. He pressed a kiss to your forehead, placing the lighter back in the drawer. “You’re so cute,” he chuckled, “I would’ve been less suggestive if I knew you were going to say something so wholesome.”

Your blood felt cold as you jolted awake. The memories of your nightmare ran through your mind. You tried your best to hide your sniffles but the little noise awoke the body next to you. He shuffled around the sheets. “Hm?” Venti rubbed the sleep from his eyes, “everything all right, my dandelion?”
You tried to answer but a sob wracked through your lips instead. The bard quickly sat up, hugging your head into his chest. His hand slowly rubbed up and down your back. His other hand held your cheek with his thumb softly wiping the tears away. “Do you want to talk about it?” he asked.
You shook your head, nuzzling deeper into his chest. He may be a mischievous archon, but he is a very caring one. He held you until your sobs calmed. Venti started to hum, a quiet beginning to his song, “Love is like a butterfly. As soft and gentle as a sigh. The multicolored moods of love are like its satin wings. Love makes your heart feel strange inside. It flutters like soft wings in flight. Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing.”
The softness of his voice brought calm to your nerves as well as the gentle rush of warm wind against your skin. “I feel it when you're with me. It happens when you kiss me,” he placed a little ‘boop’ on your nose with his finger, “That rare and gentle feeling that I feel inside.”
“Your touch is soft and gentle. Your kiss is warm and tender,” he pressed a kiss to your forehead. It reminded you of your first date. The delicate nervous kiss on your forehead after taking you home, the memories of your walk around Windrise. His hand was clammy in yours then, he had lost the confidence he carried with him. He didn’t expect you to be the reason for the slowing of his days, the freedom of his seemingly eternal life with constant change, lost friends, forgotten memories. His time felt full of purpose if it meant to see you smile again.
“Whenever I am with you, I think of butterflies,” he finished, pulling away slightly to meet your eyes, “Do you feel better, my butterfly?”
You chuckled, “You’re cheesy.”
“It’s true, though, you are my butterfly.”
“Just as much you are mine,” you gently tapped your finger against his nose, causing him to giggle.
“I’m a natural at this romance thing, you know,” he settled back deeper into bed, “bards always know how to calm their love. I’m assuming you feel better.”
“I do, thank you Venti,” you closed your eyes, the fluttering of butterflies and crystal flies making your return to sleep easier. He smiled, almost sad, as you drifted in his arms. He had no knowledge of how much longer he’d be able to care for you, the neverending of his life destined to be left without you long into the future. But none of that mattered now, what mattered was that he made you feel loved and cherished.

The soreness of your throat caused endless coughs to echo through your room. It was nothing more than a common cold but it practically ruined you. Your nose was stopped up, your face was hot, your throat felt like a gravel road, and your chest was heavy. It didn’t help that you felt unbelievably tired as well. Only yesterday was it a handful of sniffles, but now it was a full blown sickness. And worse of all, it was your anniversary with Simeon. The two of you had been looking forward to it for weeks! All of that ruined from a stupid cold.
A soft knock interrupted your disappointed thoughts. “[name]?” the gentle voice of your darling angel came from behind the door, “May I come in?”
“N-no,” you coughed out, “you’ll get sick!”
You heard him chuckle as the door clicked shut. “You know I can’t get human illnesses, love,” his footsteps were slow in his approach to you.
“Still…” you sniffled, “I look all gross…”
He sat on the bed next to you, his hand pressing softly against your cheek, “You look as beautiful as always.”
He laughed as you puffed your cheeks into a pout.
“I brought you some soup, let me help you sit up.” You whined as he pulled you to sit against your headboard. It caused your head to pound and your already heavy body felt even heavier against gravity.
“I know, love,” he wiped the sweat from your forehead, “but you need to eat something. I made it myself too.”
You cracked open your eyes, meeting his loving gaze, “what… did you make?”
“[chicken noodle soup/vegetable soup],” he held the bowl in his hand and a spoon in the other, “Lucifer let me go to the human realm so you could have something from home.”
Before you could answer, he brought a spoonful to your lips. Taking a bite, the warmth of the broth helped calm your raging throat. He waited for you to swallow before offering more. Every few bites he’d praise you, “you’re doing well” or “a few more bites, you’ve got this”. When you heard the small clink of the spoon against an empty bowl, the soreness of your throat had dissipated. You still felt warm but the fullness of your stomach made your chest feel lighter. He helped you lay back against bed. He softly fluffed the pillow under you. As he stood to leave, you grabbed his glove between your fingers.
“I’m sorry… for getting sick.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for, humans get sick. It’s okay.”
“But…”
“Shh,” he leaned down and pressed a kiss to your forehead, “let me take this bowl to the kitchen and then I’ll come back, we can plan what to do to celebrate when you’re better.”

The kitchen was bustling from excitement, so much so that you could hear it from Beel and Belphie’s room. The brothers’ voices bounced along the walls in harmony with the clangs of pots and pans. The smell of fluffy buttermilk demoncakes, cheesy scrambled bufo eggs, and sizzling devil zebra bacon wafted through the halls. The delicious scents would have caused Beel to sprint to the kitchen and devour it all. If you weren’t currently sitting on his chest.
Today was a fangol game, the first of the season as the weather started to cool. Like every year, the brothers celebrated before the game with a large breakfast of Beel’s favorites. However, he usually finished it all before they even got to sit down. Usually Belphie was in charge of trying to keep him at bay, but this year, they thought you could give it a shot. And here you are now, sitting sideways on his chest while you folded his uniform and packed his duffle bag. Beel definitely could just lift you off him and run to the kitchen, often Belphie’s tactic was just laying on him. But seeing you fold his clothes with a smile on your face all domestic-house-partner-like? He could fight the screaming in his stomach for at least a little while.
“How you doing down there, Be?”
“Fine,” his stomach growled.
“You sure?”
“Just keep talking to me, but not about food.”
“You got it.”
You continued to talk about your week, how your classes had gone, the frustrating tasks Diavolo had planned for you, how you snuck a cat into Satan’s room but somehow Mammon was the one strung up the ceiling, anything that really came to your mind. Beel listened to every word, his violet eyes memorizing the way you smile at the memory of the cat licking your cheek. As much as his stomach called for food, his heart’s rapid beats overpowered his sin. Once you zipped up the bag, he held your hand to his face. He pressed a soft kiss to your palm causing your face to heat up.
“Thank you.”
“O-of course! You can’t really pack your bag like this.”
He hummed in agreement before kissing the tips of your fingers. He held your hand against his, marveled by how small your hand is to his. He’s so much bigger than you, bigger than most demons, and yet, you’re never scared of him. You never run away when his stomach growls, or when he jokes about tasting you. You always cook for him and get excited to share your food with him. He loves sharing his food with you more, though.
“BEEEEELLLLL!” Asmo called from the dining room, “Breakfast is ready!”
In a flash, Beel stood up. He put his arms under you, carrying you with him down the hall. When he made it to the table, full of delicious dishes and drinks, he held you in his lap. Before you could protest, he held a spoonful of Hellpudding to your lips. This spread may be for his game but he’s going to win the game for you, so you better eat up too.

“That one is Taurus Iracundus, then to the left is Cannis Bellatora,” Albedo’s black gloved hand moved across the sky to another cluster of stars, “then this one is my favorite, Princeps Cretaceus.”
His other hand, without his glove, lay laced with yours upon the soft grass of Starsnatch Cliff. In a rare break of research and Klee off on her own “special mission”, the two of you were able to get some much needed alone time. Albedo took it upon himself to prepare a date. A picnic of food from the Good Hunter and some grape juice from Angel’s Share sat snug in the basket during your walk up the cliff. Only a few hilichurls detoured your way, but watching the warm sunset in each other’s arms was more than worth the trouble. As he continued, you turned your gaze from the sky to him. His pale complexion seemed to glow in the night, snow blue eyes twinkling with excitement. Each word he said made the soft cracks of his dry skin prominent. Even though the freezing cold of Dragonspine was unforgiving of his features, he was still as beautiful as ever.
He squeezed your hand when he noticed your attention drifting, “Am I boring you, darling?”
You hummed, “No.”
“Are you sure? We can discuss other-”
“I like hearing you talk, Albedo, please continue,” you leaned up, kissing his cheek before turning back towards the sky. He cleared his throat, grateful the dark hid his pink cheeks, then reached a hand back out to the stars.
“This one is Noctua, supposedly it looks like an owl. Then this one is Leo Minor,” before he could point to the next, a white blur soared across the navy sky. It was quick, but suddenly followed by a handful more. A quick gasp left your lips as you shut your eyes, making your wish.

“There was a shooting star! You have to make a wish!”

“Well, meteors often soar through our atmosphere, about thirty million every night throughout Teyvat. There is no magical connection to them with wishes.”
“I don’t think it’s supposed to be like actual magic, I think it’s more like manifestation.”

He turned back to the sky, humming as he closed his eyes.
“What did you wish for?” he asked. He heard the grass shuffle as you scooched closer. He instinctively lay his head against yours when you pressed yours against his shoulder.
“I wished to spend more time with you.”
He squeezed your hand. “I’ll make sure it comes true.”

“BABE!” Sam called for you as he slammed through the door of the farmhouse. He kicked off his muddy boots before stepping inside. His rain jacket was stretched over his backpack to keep it dry from the pouring rain. You rushed and took the grocery bags from his hands, all overloaded with various snacks and drinks. Shrugging off the jacket, he shook it off on the porch before hanging it up on your coat rack.
“It smells so good in here,” he followed you to the kitchen.
“Pizza is almost done.”
“Awesome!” he opened his backpack, “Seb let me borrow all the DVDs, he just wants them back so he can watch them too.”
Friday, a new Splendor movie was coming out. When Sam had discovered you had never seen any of these superhero films, he insisted on a movie marathon of all 21 previous films. Originally, it was going to be a group event with Sebastian and Abigail, but when the debate of whether to watch in chronological or release order became too heated, it was decided you’d all watch separately. Lucky for you, the weather called for rain for four days. This meant you had no need to care for your farm past checking your animals.
Once the two of you settled with the pizza and snacks galore on your coffee table, Sam started up the first film, Steel Man. The colors of vibrant costumes and explosions danced across the wooden floor in the dark. You put away the leftover pizza once it finished as Sam put the next, The Unimaginable Blob. He held his arms expectantly when you returned, laying across the couch. You laid on top of him and he squished you tight to his chest. He slid his hand up and down your back, your eyes still trained on the screen. You felt so warm against him, he could never get used to how loved you made him feel when you nuzzled your forehead against his chin.
At the end of the next film, Steel Man 2, when he tried to get up, he realized how still you were. Your soft breathing tickled against his neck. You were fast asleep. He should’ve remembered how hard you had been working the last couple weeks. The amount of times he’d walk you home from Harvey’s after an unsuccessful mine run was evidence enough. You were probably exhausted. He shook you softly, biting back a smile at the adorable small groan you made.
“Hey, babe, let’s get in bed,” he whispered.
You whined tiredly, “but the next one…”
“We can watch tomorrow.”
“But-”
“Please, baby?”
You whined even louder, causing him to laugh. The deep rumbles of his chest against yours made you smile.

“What are you doing?” Xiao asked, suddenly appearing kneeled behind you. You flinched back towards him. He always did this, you thought maybe he got some strange joy out of spooking you. Turning back to the oiled rice paper in your hand, you gently pressed the glued edge to the bamboo frame. Your purple stained fingers glided across the side, making sure it was secure before setting it next to your finished ones.
“Making lanterns for the festival,” you wiped your hands free from the dye before picking up the yellow one. A light golden ring was in the center of each side. Three curved lines, joined in the corners, reached towards it. Xiao’s eyes flitted between each, feeling the heaviness of remembrance in his chest. The purple was speckled with various sized clouds and lightning bolts, the red had golden flames crawling up the sides, and the blue was patterned with waves and shells along the bottom edge. He quietly sat next to you, picking up the red lantern and tracing along the flames. He felt warmth underneath his fingertips. A soft whisper blew past his ear, “Brother…”
Xiao flinched, turning quickly towards the voice but there was no one to be found. He stared towards the distance until your hand touching his pulled him back to reality. You gave him a reassuring smile as your fingers intertwined together, “Do you like them?”
“... Yes, I do.”

Once the Lantern Rite was over, Xiao hid at the top of Qingyun Peak. He sat against a tree, the lanterns you crafted gently resting in his lap. After your date at the festival together, he snuck away to find them. He had only ever spoken about his siblings once to you, after your time in the Chasm together. He was reluctant to open up to you but you made talking to you easy. He felt a warmth in his chest when you smiled at him, the pain of karmic debt erased when you wrapped your arms around him. His face burned remembering the kiss you placed on his cheek. He quickly distracted himself with the lanterns once again, holding the purple one up to the sun to see the detail.
Against the sun, a small square appeared behind the paper. Had that been there before? Xiao looked underneath and saw a folded piece of paper tucked between the paper and bamboo frame. Gently, he fished it out with his finger. It fell to his lap with a small pamph. He set down the lantern and gingerly unfolded it. Your handwriting was carefully scribbled across the page. Tears came to his eyes as he read it, unable to hold them back when he searched the other lanterns. Each held a small note with a short passage.

Thank you for taking care of Alatus for so long. He’s still a loner and hides away from most others. He’s been able to make friends with those of the Wangshu Inn and a traveler from another world. He’s stronger than before but still hurts. I know he misses you terribly, I wish you could see how much he’s grown as an adeptus and as a person. But don’t worry, I’ll take care of him for you. Abigail let out a soft groan as the sun shined against her eyelids. She turned from the window and reached for you. She was only welcomed with the coldness of the sheets. Confused, she pushed her eyes to open. This definitely was still your farm house. The cream blankets felt warmer than her blue ones at home. Her clothing on the floor and the soreness of her legs were evidence that the previous night was not a dream. One she had quite often, though she’d never admit to it.
After rubbing the sleep from her eyes, she looked at the clock on the wall. 10:38am. That’s not too late, where were you? A small wooden thud in the kitchen answered the question. She slowly got out of your bed and awkwardly limped to the door. Holding the frame for support, she watched you count and grade some parsnips and cauliflower. A basket of fresh eggs and jugs of milk sat on the counter. Your gloves were already caked with mud, some smudged on your forehead. A small yawn left your lips. How long have you been up?
Feeling eyes on you, you looked towards the door. You smiled when your eyes met, her shy smile given back. The thoughts of the night before made her shyer than usual. Taking off your gloves, you walked over to her. “Good morning,” you pressed a kiss to her forehead, “Sleep okay?”
“Y-yeah,” she let you lead her to the dining table, “how long have you been up?”
“Hmm, since six?”
“S-six???” Abigail never woke up that early, not since her high school days.
“Well, I gotta wake up early so it’s not too hot to get through farm chores.”
“What about days when it rains?”
“I head over to the mines or go fishing, lots of fish don’t bite later in the day. Plus I can usually talk your dad down a couple coins for seeds on rainy mornings.”
“So… you always wake up this early?”
“Yeah!”
“... Oh no, you’re a morning person.”
The look of horror on her face made you burst with laughter. You knew your little gothic girlfriend was a night owl but to be utterly appalled that you’re not? She jutted out her bottom lip into a pout, looking away with a dust of pink on her cheeks. “I-I don’t see what’s funny!” she exclaimed.
“Abby-baby, I’m sorry, you just looked so cute!”
You couldn’t tell if her blush darkening was from the pet name or calling her cute. Standing up, you made your way to the kitchen. “You know,” you took out a pan, “waking up earlier than you means more of a chance of breakfast in bed.”
“... I can accept this compromise.”
“I’m glad you can, how about some pumpkin pancakes?”

“And then, Ruri-chan swooped down and saved Azuki-tan! It was just!! WAHH She’s so amazing!!” Leviathan gushed. The finale of the most recent season of The Magical Ruri Hana: Demon Girl was released last night and he stayed up late to watch it and rave about it on the Reddevil forums. He was initially upset that you didn’t watch it with him, but in exchange for watching it together later, you would make an Azuki-tan cosplay to go with his Ruri-chan one. He even designed the gijinka concept for you!
That’s how you ended up standing in the center of his room, arms and legs stretched out in a starfish-like pose, as Levi took your measurements. Normally he’d be red faced touching you so much, but his focus on getting each centimeter perfect kept those feelings at bay. On the floor, next to the notepad of your numbers, was a drawing of his design. It echoed the magical girl design of Ruri-chan’s outfit but the colors were changed to varying browns and a pink flower clip instead of the hat. The petticoat was a red bean paste color too!
“I even posted-...” you turned your gaze to the demon, who’s excited expression saddened as his eyes stared to the ground.
“Posted what, Levi?”
“N-nevermind, I-”
“Levi. You know you can tell me.”
He moved from his kneeled position by your legs to sit. You followed suit, sitting across from him. He kept his gaze to his hands. He was picking at the chipping nail polish. You waited patiently for him to continue. He drew in a shaky breath, “... I posted a picture of my Ruri-chan cosplay on the forum ‘cause I was so happy about the finale… but then people started commenting about how I shouldn’t cosplay her because I’m a guy. A-and usually stuff like that doesn’t bother me, but it really got to me…”
Levi sniffled, quickly rubbing his hand against his eyes to try and hide his tears. Normally, he was proud of his hobbies and interests, but the happy adrenaline of the finale crashed at the bigotted words on the screen. You knew how much he loved Ruri-chan, how excited he was for his cosplay, and how proud he was of making it himself. Slowly you took Levi’s hand from his face, holding it in yours with your thumb rubbing across his knuckles. “Well,” you began, “You already know that there’s no such thing as not being right for a cosplay. It doesn’t matter your skin color, your gender, your height, your weight. You told me that, remember? And people who talk like that are just jealous of the confidence you have to wear something that’s considered feminine.”
Your other hand caressed his face to get him to meet your eyes. Your thumb rubbed away the tears threatening to fall on his cheeks. “I enjoy seeing you in your cosplay, you look so happy,” you smiled, “as long as you’re happy, I don’t care who you cosplay. I’ll always be proud that you’re my boyfriend. Plus, your legs look great in that skirt!”
Levi chuckled at the comment, pressing his burning cheeks against your hand. “Thank you,” he whispered.
You leaned over and kissed his other cheek, “How about we cuddle and watch the episode? And then we can go to the fabric store.”
“We can just order it on Akuzon.”
“Hmm… but how will we go to the pop-up Ruri-chan cafe?”
“WHY DIDN’T YOU REMIND ME SOONER?? WE GOTTA GO BEFORE THE LIMITED MERCH IS GONE!”

The smell of chlorine stuck to Rin’s skin no matter how much he showered. Even when he tried new soaps or doused himself in cologne, the chemical scent pushed through. You could smell it even more now with your face resting against his chest. Your arms were wrapped around his waist as he lay on his back. One hand would slowly rub up and down your back while the other held his phone, his thumb scrolling across the screen. The black blanket was pulled up to your chin. You were surrounded by the smell of him. It was quiet in the dorm for once, save for the tink-tink of rain against the window. Some club sponsors had wanted to treat the team to dinner, but Rin declined. Spending alone time with you was all he wanted.
You turned your head towards his desk, the alarm clock shining a red 10:48pm through the dark room. He had a meet tomorrow, the exact reason you had even come to visit. He needed to rest. It didn’t help that your eyelids were starting to get heavy. You softly tangled your legs with his to get his attention. “Yes?” he kept his eyes to the screen.
“We should sleep.”
“Hmm… but I don’t want to yet.”
“You don’t want to be tired when you’re up against Nanase, right?”
“Ugh, why do you always have to be right?”
You giggled as he turned slightly, plugging his phone in before returning to his back. His hands returned to your back with more slow rubs. His heartbeat against your ear was slowly drifting you asleep but the soft sigh he let out kept you awake a little longer.
“Is there a reason you don’t want to sleep?” you mumbled, “if you wanna talk about it.”
He sighed again as one hand slid up your back and caressed your cheek. His thumb fondly stroked your cheek as he mumbled back, “The sooner I fall asleep, the sooner you leave.”
Rin was happy you couldn’t see the bright red of his face, but knew you could hear his heart speed up. He dreaded seeing you depart on the train back home. Sousuke told you he counted the days until the next meet, when he’d get to see you again. He felt you smile from the way your cheeks crinkled against his hand. You gave a small kiss to the palm of his hand. “Well,” you whispered, “the sooner you fall asleep, the sooner we can be together tomorrow. You said you wanted to show me how much you’ve improved. And to kick Nanase’s butt.”
He chuckled, his hand moving back to your back. He yawned as his arms pulled you closer into him. The slow rising and falling of his chest paired with his now slowed heart beats and the soft rain made sleep irresistible. You closed your eyes, your breathing syncing up with his. You barely heard his soft whisper and barely the energy to reply.

“Yes, Dad, I’m fine, actually truly perfectly. I’m having a lot of fun here. … Yes, I am still studying, Dad, I promise I’m doing well in my classes,” you giggled into the receiver. While your DDD couldn’t connect to the human world, Diavolo was willing to let you use his house phone to contact your family. Of course, it took lots of kisses and sweet words to get him to let you. Cross-realm phone calls were extremely expensive.
Speaking of the Devil, his face was buried in your stomach as you lay propped up against the dark wood headboard. Your fingers massaged his scalp softly. He couldn’t help the little hums of happiness that left him with every gentle scratch of your nails. How did you ever make the future King of Devildom so weak for you?
“Hm? Oh, yeah, he’s good.”
Diavolo’s golden eyes shot open. He? Who is “he”? Was it one of the demon brothers? The angels? Solomon? He tightened his hold around your waist. You were his human. Who had you been telling your family about? Becoming romantically involved with a human was not in the initial plan, especially an exchange student. But you stole his heart with your soft smile, your captivating charm, and how you treated him as himself. He wasn’t the Demon King to you. He was just Diavolo, your Dia. The idea that someone else had taken your thoughts away from him made his veins run green with envy.
“Yes, he treats me very well, Dad. I know, I know, but when you meet him, you’ll see he’s just like anyone else. It doesn’t matter he’s the future king of devils, he’s a very nice guy and I think you’ll like him. … I’m sorry, I gotta go, Dad, but I’ll call again soon, okay? Love you. Bye.”
Placing the handset back on the cradle, you let out a sigh before looking down at him. He stared at you with widened eyes, a dark dust of pink across his cheeks. “You… You’ve told your parents?” he said in a barely audible whisper.
You giggled, “Of course Dia, you are my boyfriend. I want them to meet you one day, so they have to know about you.”
He sprang up, holding your cheeks as he pecked your lips over and over. In between each peck, he whispered every pet name he could think of, “My love, my darling, my sweet, my angel, my sun, my moon, my star, my everything.”
Diavolo rubbed his thumbs across your skin when he was finished. His eyes gazed into yours with such fondness, care, unfathomable love. When you both exchanged soft lovestruck smiles, he never wanted this moment to end. If he could spend all eternity with you in his arms, he would do anything to achieve it. Unfortunately, his work had other plans.
“My lord,” Barbados’s voice called from the hallway, “Lucifer is here for your meeting.”
His lower lip pushed out in a pout. Couldn’t he have more time? With a sigh, he untangled himself from you and stood. He straightened his jacket then leaned down to place a kiss on your forehead.
