Sir Paul Smith had designed Bowie’s flared trousers for the back cover of Hunky Dory so the idea was to dress Bowie entirely in Paul Smith’s new collection. While Bowie threw some unusual shapes, Smith peeped around the set and photographer Peter Robathan clicked the shutter.
