Journal prompt #9

The way that the bodies and faces are drawn in Relish my life in the kitchen are really inspirational to my final project. Even with there cartoonish design they were able to capture the emotion and story. I realized that you dont have to be incredibly detailed background or characters to have your story be understood. Plus I love the use of color in this comic, it is vibrant with out being too overwhelming and has a great use of white space on the splash pages.

I decided to try the cartoon face drawing how to because I am really bad at drawing faces. This how to was really easy to follow and made me realize that things dont have to be super realistic to have it come across as a face. All you have to do is start off with a circle and different hair and chin shapes for different faces. I think I'll try and put this to my character as much as I can to have emotions be able to read better on the face.

All my stuff I did on my laptop. I already did panel placement , photo reference, and majority of the script for my comic.

I recieved great feedback from my classmates and they stated that the path of the wordless comic was a good one so that to do more of a showing then telling. They also gave a great idea if I wanted to give background of my character, which is me , then I could do it at the end of the comic so that readers could relate more to the character with there own story then just see the character as her own person.

I learned from the group that using bright colors in the beginning and going more of a gray scape then back to color is a good idea.

That , just like moms cancer , that a cartoon style wont damage the message being delivered

And it's a good idea to use real photos from accident

Character build I like how the face looks but not to sure how I want the body to look yet. Will get feed back from classmates to see what they think.

Journal #8

For the final project I want to do almost like a memoir of what happened with my car accident last February. It was a life changing moment in my life and I believe that these moments shape you as a person. To sum it all up I almost died but since my car had a steel frame it saved my life. I was severely bruised all over my body and my bone in my ankle that supported my weight for walking was broken and I couldn't walk for 5 months. This was a very dark time in my life and through this darkness I chose to see the positive outcomes that it could bring. I believe this comic could reach multiple people going through there own personal darkness and especial those medically inhibited.

Discovery task #10

So my friend is in Bergen, Norway and I asked him to send some snaps of locations that standout to him. So when I got the pictures it was night time there and what stood out the most to me was the lights and yellow signs. I chose to do everything is black and white with the pop of yellow for contrast. He also told me when you first land and exit the airport you see a sign that questions you if you want to be at Bergen, so that is the first panel. The second panel is the incredibly mountain landscape everywhere you see. The last panel is a walking bridge that you see with a modern architecture compared to the rest of the town because it has more of rustic and old traditional European feel. I hope I get the place across since this is pictures from someone who lives there. I feel like I did a great job and when looking at the original photos they were more on a gray scale beside the lights from sogns and cars.

Journal prompt #5

My adaptation project was a how to manual on how to build your own PC. I think it turned out better then what I expected. I wanted to give it an online game/ webcomics feel to it with the text and background. I used real life images of electronics to help the reader understand what they were looking at with a mixture of drawings to have a more of a cartoonish vibe. If I had more skill with online drawing I would had attempted to draw this all in a digital space and I feel that would have made it look more like a web comic. I still love how it turned out and very proud of my creation.

Workshop #2

Made a rough draft and cut and condensed alot of the script. I might have found a stopping point but it is hard for me to not finish something that is not complete, so maybe more work with the script over the weekend. Have the idea of have drawing have pictures so going to see if classmates like it.

Workshop in class

Decided to use a picture and drawing comic like the photographer to illustrate my comic. Need to cut alot from the script and see how many panels I can use for this comic. Also need to keep it funny and light hearted to make it readable for a large audience

So for this journal task I chose to pick a panel from Blondie, and in the first panel recreated line for line one panel from one of its comic strips. I noticed that the illustrators use of lines and simple background helped to emphasize certain things that they wanted to have stand out. Basic colors were used for objects like a red aralm clock, blue sheet, pick pajamas, and of course that pop of yellow from Blondies hair. It also has a very 1930-1960 feel to it due to when it was first published.

The second part of the task was recreating the image but with your own idea in mind. I made Bondie and Dagwood into a modern couple with a more modern room. I tried to stay true to the original characters with the drawings and some of the objects. I replaced the alarm clock with a cell phone , changed Blondie's hair style and sleep wear to a more modern look, Dagwood Is shirtless because i have never seen a guy go to bed in pajamas, and some of the objects of been updated. The color scheme has alot of gray, blue and black with that pop of yellow from the hair . I tried to focus on simple line work and use of a simple background to help tell the story.

This took me around 3 days to create and think about which path I wanted to go on. I think I did an ok job and I like both of them alot.

In Mom's Cancers I have already used the strategies Brian Fies uses in creating his charters. I have never really been good at making human faces and in the past tried to draw hyper realistic ones , but majority of the time would leave them black because it would just frustrate me in trying to make them perfect. In discovery task # 7 I implemented his use of oval shape dots for eyes and basic shapes for the face structure and thought that it was so much easier to draw and loved how it came out in the end. I always thought that comics had to look like super hero drawings were they were incredibly beautiful and detailed. I have learned in this class however that there are many different forms of art , and each one has there own unique purpose and beauty to them.

Discovery task 9

For this one I took on a video game type vibe like skyrim and blocked out places I have not been to on the UCF campus with clouds. I drew myself as a warrior traveling to classes because somedays it is a real struggle to motivate your self to do so. This idea took me while to think about but not that long to excute. I combined both the diagram and collage type feel to this task and I think I succeeded in executing my idea.

Discovery Task #8

So this task was extremely hard for me. Me thinking about the project gave me the idea for the collage. I asked myself what I was think and split the two halves the brain into what they are know for. The pictures illustrate what I was think at that moment like trying to finish my goal, school, what am I going to do for this task.

I thought about this fo at least 3 days and I think I did a good job in creating the image I wanted
