I think the reason Easthies is my second favourite character despite all the EVERYTHING he does it because he's not a hypocrite about it. Vinnana is like "no breaking the pact except this one time because of the leech" while Easthies is all like "no????" I don't know if I said it on this blog before but I interpret Easthies as embodying the extremes of witch society and where others seem to struggle against those bonds, Easthies doesn't. He's clearly somewhat unhappy, but he doesn't uphold the law one second and bend the rules the next.
I don't agree with him, but I respect the genuine conviction.
