Shawn Whisenant - Sewn & Mall Rats

We first heard of Shawn Whisenant through NIGHTED, who has been putting out a consistant amount of quality zines but thats another post. In this post we look at two zines by Shawn, Sewn and Mall Rats, we tried hunting down links to buy but his Store is currently closed, so here is some of his work offered through the NIGHTED shop. Sewn offers a one of kind cover made from painted cardstock with different manual sewn designs, inside we are shown some of Shawn's extensive work through photography, sign painting, collage work, and stickers. Mall Rats is more of a documntation of the city and skating around it, which makes you want to do exactly that, adventure and document. Camera Creeps S/T

Camera Creeps, a group of five talented photographers, based out of Los Angeles offers in their self titled zine a profile of each member and their distinct aesthetic. All shot on film, black and white pages with a color collage cover, however good luck hunting for one. Honestly I do not recall the name of this zine, all I can offer on this particular one is that it came from The Flop Box . I went on there to get you more information but, tough luck, nothing to be found. Back to the issue, it has a hand painted cover and is saddle stitched very nicely. Black Bar by Jose Twenty

This zine is just plain fucking awesome, we acquired this one through a trade via IG from Jose Twenty. Didn't know what to expect, but we are always open for trades, and that made the surprise that much better. Filled with hand drawn and printed stickers, collage work, and pictures. This zine is a half size and limited to 50, if you can contact him I suggest you do and with some luck you'll have a copy as well. Until next time, DIYFTW.

Untitled by Cat Cult

now that i have the ball rolling, here is another gem, this zine being made by Cat Cult. when i received this issue/copy it was yet to be bound, so i do not have a name for it, however it is one of my favorites. it is filled with rad photography both documentation and portraiture, not to be out done by the use of spray paint and metallic ink for mixed media pages. i got this issue at another zine event somewhere on the west side, if you can get one i suggest you do. check their instagram @CatCult for other goodies such as tee's prints and pins. until next time. TEMPT Y QUE by EYE One

What to say and or what to really write about this gem here, TEMPT Y QUE by EYE ONE. It is absolutely fantastic filled with personal stories from the likes of Chaz & DEFER. If my memory serves me correct and some minor google usage, this zine was part of a kick starter for EYE WRITER. To find out more on EYE ONE click here. DETH TO FALSE EVERYTHING by DETHKILLS

Here’s another zine that I own DETH TO FALSE EVERYTHING Issue II by DETHKILLS , this is probably one of the first ten maybe 5 zines I owned. SLAY LA

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a shirt from SLAY LA on the basis that I could get a custom color that wasn’t an option in the store(black on black). Super psyched on the actual pack delivered, a fistful of stickers, two GLOW in the DARK buttons, a lighter, and a zine. The zine is about the size of my palm and completely all labels. Their is some real cool in action photos. This shirt and many other designs over at SLAY LA .
