Moving My Blog
So, I've kept several different blogs the last couple years, from fitness to filofaxing. However, I've decided that I'd like to have a blog that all the shades of me.
I will continue to link my new filofax posts here, but I'm officially moving my blogging to one blog. If you'd like to read / see all the different things about me, what I'm up to, and my what's going on my in filofax head on over to zinzeyray.blogspot.com.
Here's a link to my newest filofax post!

I've taped my official review of my Yellow Original Filofax in personal size. If you have any more questions that I didn't cover, let me know!
Let's Talk Budgeting
Last month I shared how I track my expenses for the month, now I'd like to show you how I budget. This is a newer system I'm trying out. Let's take a look at a blank one first.
I use these in excel still, because it's easier to pull numbers from other sheets, and take taxes out of my expected income automatically.
I keep a separate budget sheet for every month. I'm only "budgeted" through May, because then my income will change quite a bit, and that hasn't been settled yet.
Explanations
In my Expected Income block, I pull those values from other sheets. I keep an income sheet for all 3 of my jobs. On those sheets I've already subtracted the approximate tax amount from my checks, so I don't need to do that on this sheet.
Tithe is the amount I give to my church every month. I give 10%. I store that value as a constant at the bottom of the sheet to make the sheet less complicated.
The savings column is the amount from every check I will put into savings. Now I save a pretty large portion of my checks because I still have the luxury of my parents financial help with school and rent while I complete college. I save 65% of everything I make. Again, that percentage is held by a constant.
Concrete Expenses are the things that do not change from month to month. For me, that's my rent and internet bill. I also keep a column for Flux Expenses, that would be my electricity bill. I always budget high for that. Even if I know it will be lower in some months, I choose the higher number to be safe (if I know my income will allow it).
The Necessities block is where I budget for my food and toiletries. I live by myself so food is not always a huge expense. Toiletries could be from cleaning products, to make up. Things I consider necessary.
Then in the far left block I bring it together. I start subtracting from my expected income and see how much I have left over to play with for the month!
Now to keep myself on track with this, I will print them out every month and put them in the finance section of my A5 Filofax. My A5 serves as a personal / home management binder for myself.
My Week 3
My week 3 and first week back to school. It's been awesome to see my color coding system in action. It also cuts out a lot of the extra writing things I would need to put for every assignment. I don't have to write down Tron: HW 1 due. I can just write Hw 1 on the correct color and it takes up quite a bit less space. Nothing gets lost to me with this system either. Everything stands out which I love.
Now I talk a lot about my school to-do pages. So I wanted to post a picture of one in action!
Yet another youtube video! I'm going to upload a video every month over what's changed in my filo. Here's January
Here's a quick video on how I actually use my personal Filofax for school!
Photo-a-day: With a Furry Friend
I recently posted my first walk-through video on youtube. My cat took the liberty of watching my edit it... -.-
He was also walking over my A5 today. He pretty much does what he wants.
Photo-a-day: Touchy Feely
I have two Original Filofaxes, and they feel soo different. My yellow one is so smooth and soft to touch. It's seriously the best feeling planner I've ever had. While my green A5 is almost rough to touch. It feels stiff in comparison.
It always amazes me how different each organizer can be!
Photo-a-day: Write On
Day 5: Write on
Since I already had these pages I figured it was appropriate. I found this list pad in the target dollar section about a month ago. I write down what I eat everyday and toss it at the end of the week.
I write down what I eat to be accountable. I don't track calories, way too much work. But it's a good visual to see exactly how many pieces of chocolate I've managed to sneak into my day...
Photo-a-day: Fab 4
What the heck is Fab 4? I honestly have to idea what this is really supposed to entail...
Here is my interpretation: the 4 things my filofax can't live without!
1. Paper trimmer
2. Single Hole punch
3. Fiskars Needle Tip Scissors
4. Slim Washi Tape
If I could choose 1 word...
If I could choose 1 word for 2014 I think it would be simplify.
I tend to get really excited and wound up about new things. I can go way over board in just about everything I do if given the opportunity.
This year I would like to take a step back and look at things a bit differently. I want to take a breath, make decisions, and roll with it.
I like to assume I think differently than the majority of those around me (don't we all). But specifically my brain is being taught to approaching problems a different way. I've been in college for 3 years now for engineering. Let me tell you, it has been the most challenging, exciting, and eye opening experience of my life. I've learned to think in entirely different ways. Looking back, I realize the thousands of different ways I could handle past situations, problems, etc.
Engineering is about solving problems efficiently. That's how I want to tackle my 2014.
So for me, 2014 will be about simplifying my life. My diet, my planner, my work outs, etc. I'm ready to be efficient. To see windows and not miss them.
Photo-a-day: Resolutions
Here are my many 2014 "Resolutions". Some of these have rolled over from around the summer time... So not totally out of reach!
This years main focus is to budget better! I'm off to a great start by under-spending on my recent Denver trip!
Photo-a-day: Brand New
Here's my Brand New month on 2 page inserts that I printed off from www.philofaxy.com with my new bicycle paperclips I got on my recent trip!
Happy New Years: 1st Photo-a-day Hello 2014!
Hello 2014! Here's how I "blinged" up the first day of the new year!
Here's a look at the first week of the year. I've added in the photo-a-day's for the first week to get me in the habit! I've got them written down in my filo for the rest of the month. So excited!
Hope you have a great new year!
