Zira (26, she/her) doesn't shift often, preferring her own face and party tricks to using it to her own benefit. At least these days. Especially since a side job gone sideways a few years back burned one of her aliases and sent her brother running to the shadows. Now she waits for her brother to return to the city, keeping a low profile, still taking the odd job he sent her in letters for those she deemed worthy.
TW: Childhood Trauma, Child Abandonment.
Zira's powers were never hers, or at least that's what she convinced herself of when she never found a way to master them the way her brother did. Her parents too absent to give advice and too in love with their lifestyle to notice her when they were home and her abilities suffered for it. The alleys of Destarin weren't exactly the schooling she wanted while her brother excelled. It never bothered Zira though, she had never wanted to follow in their footsteps and was happy to do things in her own time, her own way.
Her parents were barely worth calling thieves. They weren't able to provide for the children they left at home for months at a time while they attempted to run long cons. More often than not it was just Zira and her twin brother on their own and they both preferred it that way. Both of them dipped their toes into pickpocketing when they were young, excelling in their own ways.
Her brother did his best to teach her what he knew but she wasn't interested. She had much more fun lifting coins from pockets of nobles than she ever did twisting her face. Between the two of them, they managed to pull themselves out of the dirt and into a better apartment every year. Thieving was profitable but not legitimate, they realized they were in need an excuse for the money they were able to produce. It was decided she would get a job, her brother would work random part time gigs around town, and they could finally be at peace. Or at least the peace they dreamed of as children.
They never worked for the same people more than twice, always changing their faces when discussing business. Zira was able to manage a select few of her favorite skins for extended amounts of time, granting them the anonymity they thrived in. In all their years only one job had gone bad. Zira wasn't thrilled to lose her face but didn't mind the way her brother did. He decided it was time to stop taking contacts in the city, she had to stay to keep her job and, even though she'd never admit this to her twin, the new lifestyle she was accustomed to. She liked her nice clothes and cushy job.
From street urchin to pilferer to finding herself surrounded by oddities, Zira built herself a legitimate life. These days she has a good hold over her powers, enough to shift convincingly. However, as innate as changing should be to her the shift never felt entirely her own. A remnant of the people who had given birth to her, one she didn't want but had finally accepted.
But that didn't mean Zira didn't accept the side jobs her brother sent her way. Her new apartment was rather expensive after all.
