Outside of Boichi/Inagaki just not wanting to change their character design, why do you think the petrification doesn't fix bad eyesight?
It can bring back someone from death as long as the body is preserved or fresh enough.
It can fix irreversible brain damage.
It can extent a life to immortality.
Cannot fix bad eyesight.
I don't know, it always felt weird that the petrification could fix EVERYTHING (and if you know the ending, you know why) but glass wearing characters continue to need glasses. 😂
It also doesn't fix healed scars either, as Kinro still has his scar on his cheek, but it heals petrification scars if you get re-petrified and revived quick enough.
No clue anymore. I used to think it reverted them back to a default state. So if you've had a scar or bad eyesight for a long time, you keep them. Whereas if you've only just been injured, it'll heal. But that doesn't even make sense for Mirai, because she had brain damage for a long time.
For the eyesight, I guess we could still say: Sukia and Kinro were born with bad eyesight, so it's part of their genetic code, whereas someone who developed bad eyesight would heal.
I knoooooow! They are like your most recognizable feature for your characters. Why remove them? 😭
Also it doesn't get rid of tattoos? Kirisame and Moz's swirly patterns on their forehead must be tattoos right? They are still present after they are revived....
It's an artifact of it being a design choice and plot device, but in universe I think it just has to be about time and the body's systems. May I suggest a headcanon:
De-Petrification Process Theory
A still-healing scar is an active work site. There's and ongoing process there, and just like every other body process the revival creates an idealized initial jolt to get things moving again. Otherwise that first heartbeat and all the rest won't happen for people whose brains went fully dark in the stone.
It has to be an idealized kickstart because we see a vitality boost immediately after revival, which is most obvious in people like Kaseki but also look at all the improbable feats of strength and stamina our main cast have on record. Kohaku is awesome, but she isn't leap over a canyon awesome until after she's petrified - and sure we don't see her try before then, but also why would she? Homura beats her in agility but Kohaku improves massively. Artifact of the plot needing her to do that, maybe, but if we're doing it Watsonian then all of this has to tie together.
Arthritis, micro tears in muscle or cartilage, and I guess a traumatic brain injury that the body was still trying to repair - all of that gets an instant fix. So long as the body hadn't given up and said "eh, good enough" the petrification can heal it. This would include damage done by a severe illness, even if it didn't cure the infection. Since it petrifies the gut biome as part of the person, it shouldn't be able to tell that a cyst isn't also part of a person, though it may see the body's process of trying to heal an inflamed area and reset the damage in a way that let's the now revitalized to an ideal state immune system clear that up in a day or two.
So if the healing part of de-petrification is based on the body's processes, it makes a lot more sense mechanically. Remember that scurvy, where old wounds and scars reopen, exists because even after a scar heals enough to not be noticeable it is still and active body process utilizing resources to hold that scar together. It can take 20 years for a childhood scar to no longer be an active job site, or it can never get to that point without something like petrification to magically heal it because an adult body just won't ever get to that point for any significant injury. My surgical scars are still trying to repair themselves - that's why certain cosmetic treatments work.
For someone like Dr. X who had his statue damaged deeply enough, his second petrification healed what his body was still trying to fix, but where there was a big section of skin just missing there was no information about the body processes to map and preserve. It appears less discolored but likely has a similar texture, so that's just the layers of skin being less of a mess. If the black color is fine particles of still petrified material acting the way tattoo ink does, a case like his where the scar appears lighter (more like a normal scar) but is no less severe in size/depth validated the "poop mark" worries back when Kaseki was being reassembled on Treasure Island. If Senku had revived him that way, then while repeated petrification cycles would remove the black stain it wouldn't remove the scarring.
it still makes me go insane that somehow no social media site bothers to implement interleaved text and images. Fediverse cannot support it broadly, Bluesky can't handle it, Facebook can't do it, Twitter can't do it, fucking, LinkedIn doesn't do this, somehow only Tumblr has this, and it barely even counts as a popular social media site.
i can't overstate how much this used to be the default on blogging platforms. blogging used to involve as much mixed content as you felt like. the goofy defunct french blog platforms (Skyblog, U-blog) where i was making my first posts in 2004 had that. you could embed media or javascript or applets or anything you wanted. the reason this feels like a unique tumblr-only feature now is that rotten as it is tumblr is one of very few remaining blogging platforms in 2026. everything else is microblogging now. everything else is twitter now

Sometimes you step out of the box, and you're free of the box, and you're out of the box, and you realize you are fairly box shaped. So you sit down, and you do a lot of introspection about whether or not you were always box shaped, or if you grew into the shape of the box after being forced into the box for so long, and whether or not there are stunted parts of you, that might grow, now that you're out of the box, or if you should just maybe wear the box around as a fashion accessory that conveniently makes life so much easier while living among those who expect you to be in the box, and in the middle of your naval gazing someone always shows up to try and put you back in the box.
And you realize that regardless of whether or not you actually fit in the box, it's dark in there.

And I’m not saying it’s gonna be me but someone should definitely write a fic exploring the fact that Senku making a bunch of stuff for his friends and other members of the kingdom of science in the latest episode was most certainly a goodbye gift in the off chance that the space mission team didn’t make it back to earth
