In the time before times, there were the gods. Twelve beings of immense power that lived side by side with humanity. They were worshipped, honored, revered. Humans would pray to them for desired skills, traits, and wants.
But someone betrayed the gods. Cast them into the dark and turned them into stars. Now they’ve finally returned.
But the gods don’t forget. And some don’t forgive.

The pale dragon cocked their head to the side, blue eye shimmering and red eye dulling. “He speaks in truthful tongue.” Their voice was light, airy. Then the blue eye dulled, the crimson flaring on its twin. “Alas, alas, alas. The tongue of man is filled with lies.”
Both eyes brightened down, the great celestial shaking their head as if to dispel the warring thoughts within them. Two minds in a single body, usually in perfect sync and harmony—now disrupted by the chaos of the Great Betrayal.
Their nostrils flared, raising their spiked chin. The smell of the stranger was odd. Not the usual scent that humans carried with them. There was something there that tickled their insides, made their veins feel like lightning within a storm.
“Ah, we see.” They tittered, lowering their wings and advancing slowly towards the young man.

It was not an unusual thing for the War Beast to be bloodied in battle. Be it from his opponents (it usually was from his opponents) or his own wounds, which he wore with pride, the great Aries would somehow always end up returning to their hidden lair covered in crimson.
His armor plated scales rubbed against one another as he traversed the endless tunnels of the rushed and makeshift sanctuary. Crystalline protrusions glittered from the cavern above, illuminating his path.
There was a deep gash on the side of his thick neck, and a series of three claw marks gouged across his chest. It was a wonderfully brutal fight, and his opponent had been a worthy combatant. But in the end, Aries had come on top.
He flopped down with a thud, ready to rest for maybe a few days and nurse his wounds—when he felt a small brush of feathers against his shoulder. One of his red eyes snapped open, staring down at the dragonet licking at the cut on his throat.
“Zukuuu..” His low voice rumbled. “You should be sleeping.”
“Flying is a very sacred thing, my dearest.” She said fondly, watching him with a smile on her beaked snout. He was so excitable, as most younglings were at this age. It reminded her especially of when Leo had hatched from his celestial egg. He had been an utter rascal, not used to his abilities and was prone to set things on fire with his sheer delight.
“It isn’t an individual mastering the sky. It’s a balance.” Sagittarius explained, raising a paw up to the sky. The sunlight made her scales glitter gold now, heavenly beams streaming between her talons. “You bond with the air, work with it to stay aloft.”
The Eldest Sister chuckled, turning her attention back to Izuku. “You must respect it, and it will respect you.” She had no worries at all that the green dragonet could do that. He was full of kindness, respect, and passion.
"Sacred...?" It was clear that he didn't quite understand. Didn't dragons just...fly? But it supposedly wasn't the case, staring up into the dawn above him...suddenly feeling much smaller than he already is. He's nothing in height compared to the celestials. He still hasn't even mastered fire breathing yet!
"Bond with...the air?" He stares up again, letting the light wind ruffle his fur and opened his wings a bit to feel the breeze. "I'm not quite sure I understand, but I still want to try!" He's determined to make her proud, at least.
“You’re enthusiastic, and that is a very good thing.” The older dragon chimed, taking two delicate steps towards the Cliffside edge. Her movements were light, like she was some sort of massive, godly bird instead of the celestial dragon she was. Flying was the easy part. Learning to master your elemental gifts and take a human shape would be a harder challenge to overcome.
Even she had struggled to maintain human form when she was Izuku’s age. There had been no one to teach her then, save for her twin whom was as clueless as she was at the time. So hopefully, the dragonet would have a smoother time with his transition.
“Follow my lead, little one.” Sagittarius said, spreading her wings wide. Then she leapt over the edge, tucking all four of her limbs closely against her body. The air danced through her feathers and she caught current of wind, sailing easily upon it. She hovered in the air for a moment, looking back to the younger dragon. “Now you try. Do not be afraid to fall, for I promise I will catch you.”

The Eldest Sister ruffled her crest, teal feathers shimmering in the low light of the new dawn. “Izuku…” She said softly, gently, nudging the youngling dragon with her snout. “Today is a big day for you…”
The return of the old gods to a new world was…strange. Everything was different. Humans ruled, magic was gone, many species had died off. And yet here was one thing that remained from their old world. A dragon. A lesser breed, not of celestial blood like themselves, but it was still a treasure. They wasted no time in adopting the dragonet into their family of 12.
Sagittarius hummed softly in her throat, straightening up and folded her feathered wings against her back. “Today, I will teach you to fly. Do you think you’re up to try that?” She was always gentle, not only with her younger siblings, but to any being she met.
It didn't take long for the fluffy dragon to raise his head, blinking awake a bit groggily due to the rather early hour. He's up on his paws quickly though, returning the nudge in a friendly way.
"A big day?" Izuku repeated quietly, feathered wings rustling as he stretched. His wingspan was rather large for his smaller body size, fluff covering every inch of his body from his snout down to the end of his tail. Extra fur lined the top of his spine and downwards, a mixture of greens all working together. At the very least, it kept him warm.
His eyes widened when she explained what she wanted to teach him, eyes widening with wonder. "Flying?! Today?!" His tail started swishing back and forth eagerly, wings fluttering in his excitement. "Yes please! Please, teach me!" Since he'd been taken in by the twelve, he'd been learning how....to be a dragon, really. They'd been good to him despite his statue, not gods like them...but he adored his found family. "I can't wait! I've wanted to fly for so long....!"
“Flying is a very sacred thing, my dearest.” She said fondly, watching him with a smile on her beaked snout. He was so excitable, as most younglings were at this age. Great wings carry them aloft, the starry membranes sparkling as they kiss the air.
As beautiful as they are, those marking that glitter and shine are scars of the past. Before the Great Betrayal, their membranes were pure silver. But when the void cradled them in its arms, and the inky black spread across their body, blue and red stars etched into their bones as they were torn apart and put back together into celestial stardust.
Being unmade and then reborn was…a traumatizing experience. Not all of them had recovered from it, the Eldest Brother least of all.
The world had also changed vastly since they lived alongside man. Magic had dwindled to nothing. Species they had known to be bountiful were now extinct. Humanity had grown…and forgotten, it seemed. The one who was two settled circled around a small structure; a gazebo, and perched themselves upon it.
They lowered their head, preening one of their four wings for just a moment—then they stilled.
“You can come out now. I know you are there, little one.”
