meet your muse

The more the girl said the more Amelia wondered what on earth was happening. She glanced at her watch and pulled her lip between her teeth. The girl had maybe ten or so minutes left to her break, knowing if she went over her lab partner would end up getting all agitated like she did last time. Her lab partner, Val, was probably a very nice girl but Amelia just saw her in a state that didn’t do any justice to her real self. Amelia was always one to double check and Valerie didn’t really have time for that, she became very flustered and very angry over nothing at all. She understood what it was to be flustered and searching for words that she’d once known but the anger was something that the brunette had always been wary of; it was something she liked to avoid when she could.
"I—" It was no to make up questions and it had been a no to the modelling, she was getting the distinct feeling that there was a part of life she simply hadn’t tapped into. Amelia often found she was lost when it came to pop culture and chart music but now she was even let down by her lack of experience when it came to her gender’s stereotype. "I suppose I wouldn’t be totally opposed to trying it."
"Amelia Kravitz." She said sticking out a hand, wondering mid action if it was weird or not. People her age definitely didn’t still shake hands. A few people have called me Li, like Lithium— Periodic table, you know?" This poor girl probably didn’t know and she’d gone and made herself look like a damn fool again. She honestly figured the less she said around people who clearly had more social status than she did the better. That thought made her think of her own social status; quite possibly minus figures.
"If I say yes can I go? I don’t mean to be rude, I just need to get back to the lab. I’ve been working on—" Amelia stopped herself entirely before the lovely young girl in front of her turned into some sort of skeleton. She’d been told before that she had a tendency to ramble on about her work. Often she found the more she talked about it, the more that came to mind about it. Most of her great ideas had come mid-sentence. "I could give you my number? We’ll set up a time a things. I’m pretty flexible— Not n the literal sense.. Well honestly I wouldn’t really know. Uh— We’ll text, or call. Whichever suits your phone plan better." She gave the girl and nod and looked to her shoes. They never gave her any sort of reassurance but she figured it was better than eye contact. She decided she’d help this girl, even though her intentions were a little selfish. Amelia believed this girl could show her a thing or two and she desperately just wanted her brain to take the whole situation at face value. She’d get her make up done, model for the girl and maybe even like the experience. Of course the logical side of her brain was screaming for reason, but the nonsensical side had awoken from the longest slumber and deserved a little attention.
The pout Zoe wore was quick to recede when the woman showed willingness. In a flash, her lips curved upwards and she became so pleased. It was all going along accordingly: she had found a rare beauty in a person and she was going to use it to finish her concentration. Hell, if she played her cards right, she could entice the woman for some other photo shoots—they didn’t even have to be photo shoots—she just wanted to stare at the woman and commit the face to memory.
Now how creepy did that sound? Zoe didn’t care. It wasn’t like she was muttering her fixation aloud.
“I promise it’ll be fun. I won’t make you do anything you’re not comfortable with, and it’ll just be some headshots and stuff so really all you have to do is sit and look around a little bit while I take pictures… hey! I’ll even take you to lunch or something for doing this!” As cliché as the ‘starving artist’ trope was, the reality of it was that Zoe was a college student paying for an expensive art school experience. Scholarships had eased the burden, but Zoe was still prone to show up at any school event that offered free food. Even if it was for something wildly out of left-field for her interests, like student government, she’d still show up and hover like an invisible thief on the sidelines, cheap slices of pizza in hand.
Zoe stared at the woman in bemusement. The Periodic Table? Oh right—that stuff in high-school. What grade did she get in her chemistry class again? A C? A D?
Either way, she laughed. A kind of airy laugh that lacked heart, but Zoe was a good actress. “Li, like Lithium. So I can just call you Li?” she smiled “I guess some people call me Ze for short but Zoe is fine too.”
“Yeah you can go! Sorry to keep you, dude,” Zoe waved her hand with a scoff “We’re going to swap numbers though and I’m going to call you later tonight and see what day would work best for you.” Pulling out her phone, Amelia could see the mess of stickers and bedazzled plastic gems that littered her phone case. Like it was all a joke that in large, blue and pink sequins, Z-O-E was spelled out to let everyone know which phone was hers just in case they couldn’t tell otherwise.
“My number is--,” she rattled off a set of numbers without waiting for any confirmation from Amelia “—You got that?”
