My new project: NAKED RAINBOW....get into it!
naked-rainbow:
Ummm…get into it. Duh.
I've been playing house wife for far too long due to my constraining financial circumstances..or lack thereof!
Tomorrow. I am ending the spell, at least for 24hours until Friday!
ELI ESCOBAR is releasing his DESIRE EP as aural relief from this steamy weather we somehow survive in in the city! There's been word around the block about this guy--his no-good groovy tunes are poisoning the minds of bass faces everywhere! He's infiltrating with smooth synths and dreamy vocals and electronic dance traditionalists out there are in uproar! ..but maybe that's not a bad thing.
So save whatever cover you were planning on using at Santos or Webster or Blackbox...this is da place to be!

I want to be the girl with the most cake
He only loves those things because you love to watch them break
I fake it so real I am beyond fake
And someday you will ache like I ache...
----"DOLL EYES," Hole
There's quite an interesting arch that marks the journey of my reaction as I watched this video--and by 'interesting,' I mean short.
My first reaction was UNruffled as I agreed with every written recollection of this infamous interview, saying "Oh yeah...she is obviously loaded..." This is a girl who's been through a lot of shit, using a lot of drugs, she obviously fell off her head before coming out for this interview (and I'm not surprised if someone LITERALLY had to push her from behind the curtain as her queue to go on!), celebrity train wreck. The Lindsay Lohan of the 90's. Whatever, I get it.
Except.....around 1:20, you see that she has a cigarette in her hand. And if you look closely as she brings it to her side, you see that it is LIT. Meanwhile, she goes into this spiel about Lady Macbeth and BLAH BLAH BLAH! But WAIT! She mentions that her mentor is Carrie Fischer and some business with Myrel Streep and finally around 2:28, she starts belting out one of the most renowned and, arguably, one of the most difficult female monologue in Shakespeare's works.
And this is coming from someone who spanked off to Shakespeare all throughout high school and won an award for playing Lady Macbeth (not bragging, my Shakespeare days are well behind me!).
So I keep watching Courtney Love and her nonsensical, at least on a remedial level, ramble about how she proved to MERYL STREEP (Meryl Streep yall...) that she was "worth [her] salt." My God! Its not that Courtney Love is absolutely out of her mind (well she probably is, but in a good way); its that her rate of intellect is on such a high level than the people she is speaking to that she only makes sense if you put her thought process into slow motion!
Is she crazy? Probably.
Is she high? Obviously.
Might she be a genius? ......I'm afraid so!
So, long story-short: I realized Courtney Love is a genius--I mean, look at that Drew Barrymore impression at 3:08, like that was ENOUGH for me!
SHE'S A GENIUS! Its not something that I can explain explicitly, I just know! Yes, she is a misfit. Its because she is a genius or, dare I say, a star seed. The amount of potential energy could help save the world! And I hope she still gets to do that in the future; she has already influenced me!
If I were to dally into the intricacy of her poetry (some being the above quote), this post would be an essay. Just take the time to read her Wiki biography. She's lived quite a life, to be understated in the plainest of terms.
Oscar Wilde once said the theatre was among the greatest art forms in the world because it is "the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being."
And I think this is why people can identify with Andy Warhol and Heath Ledger and David Bowie and, finally, Courtney Love--they have been able to touch and to strike chords with so many people because their life is an ongoing work of art based primarily on Sincerity. Everything they do is REAL, and even the things that are not exactly honest SEEM real because it is delivered from sincere effort to understand ALL people.
THAT is what I call an artist. And that is what I think our goal should be: to produce art from "the need to feel and to make others feel" as J-Lo once put it!
God bless Courtney Love!
Now..excuse me as I exit to watch "The People vs. Larry Flynt!"

Now here's an Ode to what I say was the last great movement Rock n Roll has ever seen: PUNK.
I recall a very memorable statement by the critic Douglas Wolk:
Of course the Stooges were stupid, that was the whole point...Iggy howled like a psycho, the band sounded like they could barely play the elementary riffs, and occasionally a moment of bone-headed poetry made it through the glorious muck.
And that was basically it.
Protopunk, which eventually evolved into Punk Rock, was not about the melodies and the lyrics and the artistry. It was about one of these two things (both, if you're lucky!): Rhythm and Energy. It was a bunch of young, loud psychos banging on their drums, screaming in their microphones and ruthlessly scratching on their guitars as a desperate way of expressing their angst--and of course, Iggy did it best! ;D
Above you'll witness one of my favorite bands right now who were all about the noise--SONIC YOUTH--singing one of my all-time favorite songs by one of my all-time favorite bands--IGGY & THE STOOGES.
And, if I'm blessed enough, I'll keep listening to the likes of these hoping that I, too, will be able to howl like this one day!
Peace, Love & Energy!
Don't you love wearing 'ironic' clothing? Wearing cowboy boots when you've never stepped foot South of Pentagon City, VA? Wearing squirrel hats when you're vegan? Dressing over-sized clothing like a homeless person when your parents pay for you to live in a loft that's $10,000/month? Don't you love being all IRONIC like that?
Well, I DON'T! If I'm an underdog, I'm gonna act like it, and DRESS like it! ;)
Speaking of...a good friend of mine, Eric Younger of Ragamuffin Cal, just launched his new clothing line under this (^^^) name--all with this Underdog theme in mind. Check out the video that acts as an introduction to the story of this RAGAMUFFIN CAL and you'll understand more-->
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyLjUm-cOgg&feature=player_embedded
So obviously this guy doesn't come from royalty and despite others are trying to frame his path of normality, he aims to go out and earn his own an alternative way...Whoah! Sounds like the story of my life, and--more than likely--the story of yours!
I'm a t-shirt collecter/destroyer basically a fan of clothing more along the lines of shit I believe in like Rock n Roll and underground record labels and being an underdog! So be like me, BUY ONE OF THESE TEES, destroy the beautifully crafted hem lines and rock it to the local bar and say "FUCK YEAH IM MOTHAFUCKING RAGAMUFFIN CAL! Chill ass underdog on my way to success-- or whatever the fuck that is!"
So do yourself a favor and, for the first time in your irony-driven life, buy clothing that supports a cause you believe in and is sincere about representing you. And--as much as I live this company--American Apparel doesn't count!
As STUPID as that name is, we're all Rag Cal's in one sense or another, just embrace it! This city is full of losers but we're pullin outta here to win! (<--lyric courtesy of Bruce Springsteen :)

Just because I’m sorry doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it at the time..
Snow Patrol, “Chocolate”
I think I forget how much of a Snow Patrol fan I used to be--like back when I watched vintage Grey's Anatomy episodes for the hell of it because Alexandra Patsavas' music supervising choices used to make the stories of the characters so compelling...
This is one of the smartest lyrics I've ever taken notice of and they have it all through their music.
All through a lot of music lyrics actually, you just have to pay attention. (For all intensive purposes), they don't just write that stuff for fun...
Bad Fruit (writing #2)
Before I go to bed and my mood is upset I know then that nothing productive can come from my mind. Any benevolent thought toward progress lies dormant until something more powerful than the negative seed planted here Kills the roots and gives birth to a new tree...
Something--anything more fruitful than this.
Doubt (writing #3)
Our thoughts are more powerful than I think we realize: A thought can build Rome Then tear it down. A thought got Jonah into the belly of a whale And got him out again. A thought took Peter's feet to the water And then drowned him in the same ocean.
Why then are we not aware of how powerful doubt is, You ask. I have done all of this for you, am I not one Who can finish that which he starts? If I brought you into the furnace, can I not find you a way out? If I gave you a staff to do wonders, Will I not part the seas on your behalf? These are things I have done; Can you not trust me to do even THIS, the more trivial of miracles in My history?!
If I can open a belly, I can most certainly open a door. If I can provide a path out of a fiery furnace I will most definitely find a window for your opportunity. If I can make a man walk on water, can I not make it so that wherever you walk the sidewalk is parted in your favor?
You trust that I can do the miracles of your predecessor's past Yet I cannot handle day-to-day maintenance work. I can see a way through any obstacle and move any mountain out of my way.
If you cannot believe that you can do the same, then you are no child of mine!

I'm Not Your Mom | Zoe Murakami I don't give a fuck about you!
KNOCKING
"Honor thy father and mother, that thy days may be long upon the earth."
-Exodus 20:12
Everytime you come knocking
These walls come tumbling down.
I checked the bolts
And tightened the screw
And looked over the security of every inch of the house I built away from you
Yet and still, when you come knocking,
it all comes to naught.
I think you need a better approach.
Maybe if you called before you came,
I could leave the door unlocked and
you could just come right in and I wouldn't have to hear your
hard, authoritative knocks!
OR I could just leave the door open for you to walk right through...
But perhaps you are right that I should
not build my house on sand. Although
I know for sure that it is not windy
here.
Or perhaps I am right in building it on sand--
I mean, the wind HARDLY blows...
Or perhaps I was on a mission from God, that
this house you shame with your knuckles is built with His hands.
And that every time you say "Talk to God"
I silently retort with an "I already have! He's
The reason why I'm in trouble in the first place!"
Should I burn it down and rebuild it somewhere else, where you might approve--
which would be nowhere if
I have it your way--
Or should I buy stronger bolts,
Top my roof with better shingles and
Make my wallpaper peel-proof!
It takes work to build a house;
And I didn't build it for you.
Whether or not you come knocking is
irrelevant.
I will be busy honoring this house
And giving it the attention it deserves,
Not because you keep knocking but
Because I'd like to live in it with some security.
You haven't come knocking in a while now,
I am almost sure this house is perfectly
built now, still on sand.
It is rooted deeply though and the
Lord made sure that every rainstorm
that came this way appeased before it
reached this house.
He kept me.
But only because I stopped
anticipating your knocking.
I barely notice it when you do now.
Sticky Izzy (DEMO 4) by Zoe Murakami
Its just a rough draft! After a week+ of releasing my last song "NOT RIGHT," I felt like proof that I have been working is overdue, no matter how uninspired I may have been the past week or so...
I don't know if you can tell, but I've been experimenting with my analog synth, getting LFO's tight, wiggling a few wheels--this is the result! I'd say Sonic Youth meets Does It Offend You, Yeah? ...Which I guess is kind of the same thing..! Enjoy!
And don't worry, THE ZIGGY STARDUST REFERENCE WILL MAKE SENSE MUCH LATER!
Now let me tell you, that when I say that U STREET MUSIC HALL is a blessing to my life, I mean that when I get the chance to stomp my ass off on the dance floor to heavy bass and knocking kicks, it is like RELIGION!
Finally! I have found my Heavy Metal RnR, version 2-point-thousand and 11! And there's no way I can describe how I feel when I'm in this space and the music of DJ Tittsworth, Stareyezz, Deathface, Drop the Lime and MANY others starts dominating my eardrums--and clearly, as of late, I've been standing way too close to the speakers!
Needless to say, this experience only prompts me to get down on my knees and pray and ask God for the opportunity of giving other lost and maybe troubled kids a safe haven in the music that I create! I don't mean to preach, but I need to WORK MY ASS OFF so that, through my music, I can make a connection with other human beings that I found in havens like Uhall, where the dance floor is like a ruthless battlefield and the DJ is the commander-in-chief! To spur a revolution! To call people to action! To lead through rhythm and dance from darkness into lights so blind you have to turn away!
Ever since paying visits to UHall, I've been having snapshots of the future and what my role in it will be. And I won't say much except that it is nothing I should take lightly!
Now, Enjoy DEATHFACE's music video to one of his heart-smashing mixes "BLOODRAVE."
Friday. So that Saturday, I'll be ready.

Not Right (Stooges cover) INTRUMENTAL
Not Right (Stooges cover) INSTRUMENTAL by Zoe Murakami
Haven't you heard? I am a Stooge now!
Now this is one of my tracks that starts off raw and gets really good and DIRTY near the end. There's a definite Intro, Build-Up, Climax, and Conclusion built into this 4 min instrumental, so make sure you listen to it ALL THE WAY THROUGH. Soon, I will be able to add vocals and it will all make complete and perfect sense, but you should definitely consider listening to the original to fill in the blanks until I finish recording!

After listening heavily to late 60's and 70's Rock n Roll (right before Rock n Roll became Protopunk became 'Punk Rock')--this includes my beloved Runaways, Sonic Youth, Richard Hell and the Voidoids--I fell in love with the First Album by the Stooges. No words can explain the raw sincerity this record presents and I have been listening to it non-stop, on a loop.
So here is one of a few covers I am doing from that Stooges album called "NOT RIGHT"! Hopefully those songs, among a few others, will complete an EP idea I have called STOOGE. I've been working really hard, so expect more awesomeness!

I am ashamed, trust me, I am!
Its been several days since my last show--actually well over a week, maybe even TWO weeks--and I have not updated my blog on how it went.
Obviously, if I'm writing about it, even if it is well-overdue, it went successfully! (Notice how I didn't write about the second Casade Irving party? Long story.)
At any rate, my good friend Stephen Spotswood hooked me up with this show at the Catholic University and procrastinating proved to be my worst enemy--for some reason I had lost a lot of enthusiasm after my last failed show. I had prepared SO HARD for it, and then it didn't happen. I didn't feel like Madonna anymore...So when I tell you that I was creating and recording the music up until the last minute, I mean that I LITERALLY did not finish making the THREE TRACKS until 2 hours before I was supposed to perform my set. Luckily, Stephen has good friends who helped me and I had a little bit of my Phillies and Evan Williams to get me through the evening. I really got my Cherie Currie on! BTW, do you like my outfit??
With that said, the pics will speak for themselves of how much fun my friends and I had and how well my attempts at Vogueing went! Enjoy!
