the goldfinch movie adaptation obviously sucked massive balls but aneurin barnard knew exactly what he was doing as adult boris i’ll never forget the look on his face in the scene where theo tells him that he took conversational russian in college because it reminded him of boris… that slow dawning realization that you have influenced someone in a way entirely outside of your control and that you have still existed as a very alive and insistent entity in the back of his mind all these years without your knowledge. he looked like he’d been hit or gotten the wind knocked out of him or something. wow. that shitshow of a film was almost worth it for that one moment

something about one of the takeaways of the goldfinch being the ability to love something that transcends death, something that even death cannot touch.….. something about theo desperately locking it away (with the passcode being digits from boris’ phone number, mind you), never peeling back the layers or examining it, only for this thing that is loved so intensely to be in boris’ possession the entire time…… something about trying to lock away this indescribable love only for him to be blindsided by it by the one he loves anyway……..
