one of the biggest misconceptions about goku is that he really is just all for the fighting - which is true in some ways, but he succeeds because he pushes himself to be stronger, and isn't malicious. it's not canon but gt was interesting to me because it showed goku being much more present with his family which i happen to think lines up with who he is. goku at his core is strong in his literal strength but also in his heart, he would so easily fight for others when it got too dire, and goes beyond mercy to destroy evil - all the while hoping for the best in every opponent he faces
