Clueless || Open
Zora rubbed her eyes and looked up at the dusking sky.
"Goddammit." She was getting really sick of having no control over her shifting, where it took her, and where she ended up returning to normal.
At least this time she was in the woods, out of sight. Last time Zora shifted she wound up in the city on the sidewalk, in plain view of anyone who happened to be around. It's embarrassing enough finding yourself somewhere you don't know how you got to, it's even worse when you're half or fully naked too.
She stood up and started to brush the dirt off herself and pull the sticks out of her hair when she noticed a figure moving nearby.
Kieran snorted. Wasn’t that the truth? It was something his sister never understood, but this stranger did. Never drunk enough.
His smile faded at the mention of the body. “You mean the body I found at the town festival.” He shrugged, trying to play it cool. “And no, I wasn’t referring to that. Or I wasn’t referring to just that. I mean he was missing for a while…we all figured he was dead anyway. And he was an asshole. So that hardly even matters.”
He knocked back another glass and looked down at it. “This town has been a real shit hole the past month. Or maybe longer. Maybe forever.”
"Damn, that's kind of rough."
Zora couldn't imagine what it'd be like to actually find a dead body like that. When bodies came into the morgue, she was expecting them, she knew what she was getting into there. But to just find a body somewhere? It sounded a little scary.
"I didn't know the guy, so I'll take your word on it that he was an asshole. But still. I'm sure it was somewhat jarring."
Zora turned her stool so that her long, crossed legs were pointed towards Kieran. She leaned into him, her hair falling over one eye, "They think it was a supernatural who did it, what do you think?"
Eh its the small town living. I’ve been all around, don’t really settle anywhere for more than maybe a year. New York to Cali and somehow ended up here lucky enough. And you? I feel energy buzzing off you, its always strangely electrifying to run into other witches.
This is a pretty strange place to wind up, if you ask me.
Honestly, and maybe this is the drink talking because I haven't really told anyone else this, but I'm not sure how I got here. I'm still trying to figure it out.
The energy you feel isn't because I'm a witch though. I guess I'm what everyone is calling a "shifter". It's something I'm still learning about, I've been kinda on my own with this whole thing.
Honey horrible dancing and unfiltered flirting is how I run my life so I am more than willing to buy or as many shots as your little self can take.
That's a pretty great life philosophy, I have to say.
I've got to admit, you're a breathe of fresh air amongst all the stale energy I've encountered recently.

Kieran chuckled. “Guess that’s the upside to a job like that.” His job was the complete opposite. Working at a club meant voices everywhere, usually drunk voices, apt to talking shit about any number of subjects. “I’d get paranoid sitting in a room with a bunch of dead bodies. I watch too many horror films for my own good.” It made it easier to joke about it, to come across as aloof. As a wolf and as a man, he very much hated his aversion to dead bodies. But he’d seen too many that he recognized.
At the question, he looked over at her and nodded. “Yeah, I’m good. Just not drunk enough yet,” he said, grinning before taking another drink. And really, he was fine. “It’s just been a shitty month.”
"I feel like I'm never drunk enough." She flashed a smile.
Zora was still pretty new to town, and she had mostly kept to herself. She had been hearing whispers around about a body found mauled at the festival. She was curious about it, but she had been so busy trying to sort her own life she didn't really bother asking around.
She hadn't really built a reputation enough with anyone to really get any info anyways.
Maybe this could be her in, she thought.
"Are you referring to that body they found at the festival?"
Getting my groove on of course. Its a lot more fun and appealing once you’ve had half a bottle of Jack.

Maybe I just haven't had enough to drink, yet, though tequila is more likely to make me dance. Which is why I rarely drink it, probably.

Kieran smirked. “Zora. Cool name.” He took another gulp from his glass and settled it down, now empty. Waving to the bartender again, he listened to Zora’s explanation of her day.
"Dead people? You work in a morgue or something?" Kieran didn’t like to show any kind of vulnerability or admit that he might have any weakness, but finding one dead body had been more than enough for him. He wasn’t a fan of seeing them, especially the one he’d found mauled at the town festival not too long ago.
Kieran nodded. “Yeah, I know what you mean. Just a shitty day. Sometimes there isn’t a reason. A day is just shitty to be shitty.”
Zora shifted in her stool. "Yeah, I work at the morgue."
"Something about hanging around a bunch of lifeless bodies who can't talk shit to you just soothes me." She chuckled.
Zora could see Kieran was masking a slight uncomfortability with the topic at hand. She always forgot how weird it was to talk about death to normal people; whatever normal meant. She tapped her long, black nails on the bar counter, unsure of how to continue the conversation.
This was always her problem once she actually got to talking to someone - she never knew how to act. She didn't want to scare this guy off, she was actually enjoying his company. It felt like a long time since she'd actually had an interaction with another living person.
"Are," she paused, trying to form her sentence carefully. "Are you okay?"
Kieran shrugged and took a larger gulp of his drink. “If you want, I guess. I’m Kieran.” He took another gulp. “You don’t actually have to tell me anything you know. I figured you started conversation so…”
It didn’t faze Kieran as he didn’t care one way or another if they continued their conversation. His intention was to drink, not to make small talk. Running a hand through his hair, he looked at his drink again, realizing that he was almost finished with it. Had he really been drinking that quickly?
Zora could see this guy had just as much attitude as she, it was refreshing to see someone give it to her the way she gave to everyone else.
"I'm Zora." She raised her glass to him again in introduction and took a drink, she was feeling a little fuzzy now. Zora hated how much a lightweight she was.
"I guess, from an outside view, my day wasn't all that bad. I mean, I spend my time around dead people, they don't get up to much." She chuckled at her own joke.
Zora tucked her hair behind her ear, and spoke somberly, "It's just one of those days... You know, where your mind just decides not to shut the fuck up."
Communing With Nature || Jared & Zora
"Oh, no, of course not," he scoffed. Obviously.There was a very interesting beetle crawling along the rocks in front of the bush between him and Zora. He cleared his throat several times, but it refused to unclench.
"I was wondering when I would meet a shifter. I’m a warlock. Sometimes. I think I’d be good at it if I could just…get good at it."
He blinked for the beetle’s sake. If he stared much longer, he might have lit it on fire.
Zora laughed inwardly, she could see how uncomfortable she was making him so she moved behind a taller bush, it was the best she could do given the situation.
She was curious about this man, she'd met a couple of warlocks since waking up in Fairport, but most were cocky assholes who left Zora unimpressed and bored.
"Who are you, by the way?" She asked. "I haven't seen you around before. I'm Zora."
She would have extended her hand to shake his but she didn't want to scare him any further, though his awkwardness was quite amusing for her so far.

Oh.
The mere sound of a woman’s voice made all of the tension drain out of Jared. Not a monster, am ogre, a hag, or a cannibal; just a woman. He turned.
"That’s o—"
Just a naked woman.
Heat seared on his cheeks and he averted his eyes.
"It’s—okay. Um. You do not have clothes on."
Zora chuckled, "Yeah, well you can't really wear clothes as a coyote."
Normally she wouldn't disclose that she was supernatural so quickly, it was safest that way and she could get away with being human most of the time, but she sensed that it was okay to tell this man.
"So, what did I interrupt?"
Kieran lowered his glass to the bar and motioned for the bartender to bring a second. When he heard the question posed, he looked down at his empty glass and smirked. “You could say that.” When the second drink was placed before him, he took a sip of it and looked over at the woman.
"Tell me about yours then." He figured this was why people came to bars like this, bars that didn’t play thumping music or have lots of people pressed up against each other, strobe lights blinding everyone. To find a stranger, and share their sorrows. He didn’t know if he would partake in such, but he had no intention of keeping her from doing so.
She let out a sarcastic laugh, "Don't you think I should know your name before I start divulging my personal woes to you?"
Zora kind of hoped her biting comment would make him get up and leave so that she wouldn't have to get to know this stranger. Because she knew exactly what happened once you let someone in, even a little bit - they'd always find a way to disappoint.
She took the final sip of her bourbon and ordered another. She sat still, shoulders clenched, waiting for the man to realize she was too difficult and leave.
Communing With Nature || Jared & Zora
Jared always tried to pick out-of-the-way places to practice his magic. Whether that was his mother talking (“Don’t be overbearing, Jared; it’s not polite!”) or the fact that he always felt more, well, magical in nature, he could not say. He’d found himself a nice thicket in the woods, and he sat on his knees, staring at flowers and hoping they'd grow, or wilt, or do something. So tight was his focus that he couldn't hear the world around him. He hardly even felt the breeze, until the sudden sense of a nearby presence made his hackle stand on end, and whatever connection he’d made with nature fizzled altogether.
Zora had decided today was a good day to explore the woods in her coyote form. She was unsure of why, but she was still getting used to her instincts driving her to make shifting decisions.
The smell in the air was a unique mixture of pollen, pheromones, and... something she couldn't quite figure out. But it was close.
She crept quietly towards the scent, ears flat against her head, tail twitching. She came upon a thicket and hid inside a bush, as she peered through the leaves she saw a man. He was concentrated, steady, and she was admiring him.
Suddenly, Zora realized the man was aware of her presence. As she took a step back out of the bush, Zora shifted back into her human form.
She stood up, fully naked. "Hey," she was abrupt, dry, "I didn't mean to interrupt you."
