They have two different names for a reason! When two species hybridize, the resulting offspring is named based on the sex of the mother and father: a pizzly bear has a polar bear father and a grizzly mother, a grolar bear has a grizzly father and a polar bear mother. This is important because a lot of weird sex-linked characteristics can crop up based on who was mom or dad. For instance, a narluga (narwhal father, beluga mother) is a smooth gray animal with no tusks but large, shovel-like teeth in it’s lower jaw and the remains of three adults have been found so far, whereas a belwhal (beluga father, narwhal mother) is only known by two deceased juveniles (may not be viable) who are speckled white and developing two tusks.
