We need to teach our young boys to be responsible
Hallo Sanibonani. I would like to share my thoughts regarding this very important social issue that affect us on a daily basis. I think we can't be focusing on teaching only young girls how to behave and be careful of dangers they might come across. But at some point we need to teach our young boys how to be responsible and how to respect and protect women. We need to teach our young boys how to become men.
I remember that when I grew up at home I was taught that in order to become a man I don't beat a girl, I don't touch a girl in an inappropriate manner, but I have protect my sisters and cousins all the time. But when I got out there in the street I was told a totally different thing, that if I want to be a man I must not be soft to women, that I must show women that I don't take nonsense, that as a man I am always in charge and that i must beat a woman if she does something I don't like. Basically that is how it goes out there. If u don't teach your son how to become a man, the street will take over and do it for u. And we all know the consequences of the street lessons through statistics we read and see on the news.
These young women are not victimized by gorillas and elephants or reptiles, but these young women are victimized by males. Males who either missed an opportunity to be taught how to be better men or simple rejected such an opportunity. Therefore we need to do away with the mentality of thinking boys will just grow like trees on their own and become very good men, but we need to stand up and do our part more especially as fathers and men in a community.
We need to take this issue seriously and educate our young boys on how to actually become real men, while they are still at their tender age, so that they will grow up knowing that women need us for protection and love, not to be victimized and abused. That is how i think we can create a society where teenage pregnancy, teenage drug abuse, and teenage STI infections are least of our problems. And eventually curb the shocking behaviors and attitude of the so called “men” males we see everyday.
