summary: Michael can’t help but look through your vanity drawers every time he’s over, snooping around all your belongings.
⋆˙a/n-This was inspired by that clip of Michael saying he likes to explore through other people’s drawers and closets lolll.
The softness of the blanket below you brushed against your legs as a book you were attempting to read rested on your chest. Lightly skimming over the little words on the paper.
Your attention got stolen due to the sound of rummaging next to you, you turned your glance at Michael who had taken a seat on your vanity chair, he was casually examining all the little essential items that were placed on your desk.
Quietly watching him with a smile on your face as he looked at all the items with such interest. It was a usual habit of his as he felt closer to you by looking at every day things you used, or you found meaningful enough to store them safely away.
He then opened the vanity drawers, his eyes skimming through the miscellaneous products that most caught his attention.
Moving silently but loudly at the same time as he picked up a familiar bracelet that caught his eye. “You still have this?” he softly chuckled as he brought the bracelet closer to you.
It was a bracelet you had made each other around the first few months of your friendship, it was a simple yet special memory that you always held close to you.
A warm smile entered your face at the recollection. “Oh yeah. It was too special to get rid of it.”
“Yeah?” a shy smile took over him, for a reason he didn’t exactly recognize yet.
“I still have mine too.” he admitted, softly.
You shared a knowing look as he turned back to inspect your belongings. He picked up a long gold stick, tilting his head trying to figure out the use of it. You faintly giggled at his confusion.
He turned to you with a puzzled expression, “what’s this?”
You playfully rolled your eyes. “It’s a lighter, Michael.”
“I use it for my candles.” you pointed over to a candle that was across your room, the flame bringing in a calm scent that filled your room.
“Ohh, you had me concerned for a second.” he teased, enjoying the look of annoyance that was placed on your face upon his comment.
You shook your head as he placed it back inside the drawer with a hidden smirk, opening the next drawer below it. “Actually y’know—one day you might find something you don’t like.” you murmured, loud enough for him to hear.
“..might make you think twice before looking through my stuff, just saying.” you add, deciding to toy with him.
He furrowed his eyebrows as he turned to you. “Oh yeah?. Like what?” he tilted his head, playing along waiting for your response.
You shrugged your shoulders lightly. “Can’t tell you.”
“I guess you’ll find out on your own, eventually..” you teased, hiding back your smile.
Michael squinted his eyes at you, “What type of things you be hiding, girl?” he carried the banter.
You scoffed a laugh as you covered your face with the book. “Forget it, you’ll never listen either way.”
He chuckled as he had turned back to close the drawer before something else caught his attention.
He picked up a small photograph that was slightly peeking out from below your notebook, his fingers gently pulled it out. You lifted your gaze at his hands the same time as he did, your eyes widening at the sight of which picture he found.
You could’ve sworn you had kept it in the small pocket of your purse but clearly not as he held it between his fingers. He looked at the photograph, the flashback of the day you had taken it. Michael had been looking out onto the city streets, the cast of the city lights adorning his body like a spotlight, he had looked angelic.
It instantly became your favorite photo of him. He had wondered what had become of the picture, now he knew. A warmth entered his body at the realization that you had thought and felt to keep it.
You got up quickly, lunging your body at his to take it away from his grasp. Evidently too late as the shy smile on his face turned into a sly smirk at your reaction. He pulled the photograph away from your reach, taking another glance at it before bringing it to your face.
He teasingly held it up to your face, “Things like this?”, he mocked.
Your body burned with embarrassment. Putting your face into your hands, you let out a soft sound of defeat. You only heard his quiet chuckle as his fingers met yours, letting the air hit your face.
“Don’t hide from me now.” his voice dropped to something more softer, only making your face hotter.
You let out a sigh, “Michael..”
He watched your flustered face with a sparkle in his eyes. “You’re cute for this, y’know?” he murmured softly.
Softly shaking your head, trying to shake off the embarrassment, “Stop teasing, Michael.”
“I’m serious.” you add faintly.
He firmed the hold on your hands, “I’m serious, too.”
You avoided his gaze as much as you could, glancing at the telephone that rested on your nightstand until you felt his fingers guide your face to his, gently—the touch of his hand bringing you back to reality.
You weakly spoke, “You weren’t supposed to notice that.”
He bit his bottom lip with a soft smile, “But I did…and I’m glad I did.” He murmured while he lightly dragged a finger across your face, the contact bringing warmth against your skin.
Time seemed to stop as the silence flowed through the air, the slow seconds filled with revealed feelings.
He stood up as his body was already inches from yours, gently cupping your face. His face hovered over yours, the new proximity leaving your heart beating out of your chest.
His eyes searched yours for any sign of hesitation, as he felt the way your body gravitated towards him he took the signal of approval. Finally closing that space, his lips met yours in a gentle heavy kiss.
His soft touch against your mouth only causing your body to melt into his, a pretty sound escaped him at the sensation. His lips moved so perfectly against yours, you wondered why it took this long to experience this.
He pulled back just barely after a few seconds, tracing his thumb along your bottom lip, “Keep another photograph so I can kiss you again.“ He uttered as a soft blush stained his face, you lightly chuckled.
“I’ll make sure to have my camera prepared.” you respond as the blush becomes clearer on both of your faces. A lovesick sight that brought your heart all the bliss you could dream of.

summary: Although the break up with Michael was left in the dark, he couldn’t seem to get you out of his mind. What happens when you have both “moved on”, yet crave each other deeply?
Your past always seemed to creep it’s way back into your life, slowly taunting aspects you thought you’d left behind. After months of trying to heal from a relationship that had left you in complete shreds, your heart begging for repair, you gradually allowed time to ease the pain.
During those agonizing days that later became months, you found yourself ignoring all of the things people would tell you about Michael.
“He misses you.” “He wants you back.”
With a scoff you’d quickly change the conversation, if after three years worth of relationship with him ended with a nasty break up and strangers leaving you messages on his behalf. You didn’t want it.
It was only on the cold lonely nights in which the thought of him kept you awake, and when your eyes would finally close he appeared in your dreams. That familiar face, his smile. It seemed like nothing had changed. You found yourself sleeping more often for that reason, a chance to live in a moment once more in which he held you and stayed by your side as if everything was okay.
Reality came crashing down when just six months after the break up you had noticed your friend walking in with an almost pitiful smile.
She cautiously brought a newspaper to your hands. “I would rather you find out now than later with everyone surrounding you.”
You squinted your eyes as you grabbed a hold of the paper. A sinking feeling entered your heart immediately. Of course, you thought to yourself.
‘King of pop, new girlfriend—hand in hand at awards ceremony.’
The paper titled in bold letters as if the photograph right below it wasn’t enough. A very well dressed lady laced into Michael’s arm. Just the way you used to. The smiles looked so natural it made your stomach turn. His flashy smile carrying nothing but bliss, as if you hadn’t been drowning in your own tears for so many nights.
You felt pathetic. Months. It took him months to easily slip into a new relationship. Did the years you spent by his side become so disposable?
Glancing down at the picture, eyes glassy, you let out a bitter chuckle. “Surprised he took this long to announce her to the world.” You tossed the newspaper to the side.
The photo inked into your mind, he looked handsome, as always. But the fact he wasn’t yours to admire anymore ached in a way you weren’t accustomed to.
The fact she became the one who gets to hold him, feel the gentle touch of his hand, his voice, everything. It absolutely pained you. You wondered when he met her, how he met her. What made her special.
Later that night you broke down in a way you never thought you would again. You promised yourself you wouldn’t. But you couldn’t hold it back, the pain in your chest outweighed the way you tried ignoring it all. Ignoring him.
The sobs that left your body were uncontrollable, you wouldn’t be shocked if the neighbors could hear them. The memories with Michael came flooding back, all the sleepless nights where he’d be pacing around the room, when he would let you get some rest although he wanted to talk to you.
But then those other nights were he couldn’t hold back and he would gently wake you up. You’d quickly understand the situation and stay up talking with him for hours on end. “Baby, you can’t sleep again?”
He would shake his head with a tired look on his face, you watched, wishing you could take all his worries away.
“Sorry I woke you, I just wanna talk with you.” his voice soft, as he knelt by your side of the bed.
You would make room so he could lay next to you, immediately finding your touch, he would bring your hand to his head. A little gesture he grew very fond of throughout the years with you. You softly chuckled as you softly played with his curls, gently massaging his head. Placing a light kiss onto it.
The conversation would start to slow down as you noticed the change in his breaths, looking down, his eyes slowly closing. It was until you could hear his soft mumbling he would do in his sleep that you felt comfortable enough to go back to sleep.
You thought back to all the memories created over the time spend with him. by his side no matter the case. Every single moment holding some kind of meaning to you, now felt as if it never existed.
So now with the realization that he’s found himself some other girl, casually, not once trying to maybe give the relationship you two held another chance. It left you feeling defeated, and curious as to how it all came crashing down onto this chaos of emotions.
However, you hadn’t had a clue over the fact that he did call you, multiple times, probably hundreds of times. He lost count as he went country to country with still no response from you.
Michael was unaware of the last time he was able to get some sleep, every night felt heavy on his chest. Your touch, your voice, the comfort you once brought him was nowhere to be found, he felt incomplete without you.
Everything and everyone had somehow gotten in the way of you finding out that he was trying to communicate with you, once more. So for months on end you carried on thinking he didn’t care.
During the third unbearable month, he took a late flight to your apartment, your favorite flowers in hand, shades taken off so he could look you in the eye and tell you just how much you meant to him, how much you impacted his life for the better.
How the whole break up was stupid, completely unnecessary. You had learned his body and he had learned all about yours, he held onto that tightly, knowing the importance of it.
He waited in front of the door, his breaths uneven as he thought of all the possible scenarios that could unfold, but as he knocked he was met with silence.
Expecting rejection at the first few knocks he continued once more , his knuckles meeting the cold wood of the door. But again, nothing.
He leaned his forehead against the door, letting out a soft sigh. “Please, if you’re there, open the door just this once. If you decide we’re not worth it anymore after this, I’ll have to understand.”
“But please..lemme talk to you.” His tone vulnerable and hurt, tears began casting his eyes as he thought about the fact he hadn’t seen your face in far too long. The unfamiliarity of it all carrying an immense burden upon his heart. Hating every second of it.
He stayed by the door for hours, taking a seat on the floor, he talked, hoping you were on the other side even if you were ignoring him at least hoping you were listening.
Footsteps then approached, Bill had entered the hallway with a pitiful expression as he patted Michael’s shoulder.
“You’ve been here for hours now, bud- we should get going. We have a flight in about 40 minutes.” Bill spoke as he took in the appearance of the heartsick man in front of him.
“I need to speak to her, Bill.”
Michael’s voice tired and broken. “I want her back, I need her back in my life.”
It was hurtful seeing how much heartache was taking over his body. “I’m sorry.” Bill said as he took him into a hug.
“She’ll come around eventually—what you two have is special, you both know that. It’s just a matter of time.” he spoke to Michael, reassuringly.
Meanwhile that was going on, you were on the other side of the city spending time with friends to ease your mind. It wasn’t working all so well, not the way you were hoping for anyway.
So while Michael was etched into your mind, he was also waiting at your door..for hours at that. And you remained unaware of it.
It seemed as if the universe didn’t want to align you two together like before, preventing any crossing paths between one another.
And while Michael remained in your heart, you repeated to yourself over and over again that you had to move on, although he’s all your heart had ever wanted, it was over. and you had to accept and move on from him.
3 years later
Between distractions and distance from all things related to magazines, press, even tv.. you tried it all to avoid seeing that familiar face plastered basically everywhere you went, it was hell.
However you couldn’t control his voice playing in most places you walked into, somehow that’s what hurt the most. That voice that once meant the world to you, the voice that would warm your heart every waking moment was now only heard through speakers.
People would still give you pitiful. “What ever happened between you two?—thought y’all would end up married.”
And although a petty part of you wanted to laugh it off, that sting in your heart would still appear, even years after. That same heartache never seemed to fade, as much as you tried pushing it off.
But you carried on, even though a piece of your heart had seemed to get left behind, you found yourself living freely the way you promised you would.
Just about six months ago this guy you had grown quite fond about asked you to be his girlfriend, you said yes. it felt like you were betraying him.
You despised the way Michael appeared in your mind the second your now boyfriend had asked you out. Forcing yourself to snap out of it, you decided to give it a chance.
So now after a few months shared with him, you somehow felt relaxed.
There was no sneaking around, no having to hide your face from paparazzi randomly appearing everywhere you went. No different time zone phone calls, you could walk with him anywhere and everywhere without it turning into chaos. It felt normal.
And somehow strange.but you would only ever silently admit that.
Besides after three, surprisingly fast paced years. A new relationship wasn’t all that bad. You could do whatever you wanted anyway, but somehow you always caught yourself holding back.
So now walking hand in hand with your new boyfriend you felt like a rejuvenated person, still new to it all. To the idea that the person you were hand in hand with didn’t have a dozen pair of eyes onto them.
But as you walked out of the small shop you could only see the small flash of a light go off. That same all familiar feeling of being watched came back for a few seconds. Glancing up you spotted a man holding a camera, you held a hand to your face as a few more flashes followed. As you turned the corner with your boyfriend, walking past the man you heard a slick comment he made.
“So is this something serious or you have plans on going back to Michael?”
You scoffed at his audacity, noticing how your boyfriend stayed silent you took in the way his expression had gotten serious.
“Just ignore it.” you told him as you got into the car.
You hated that no matter how hard you tried to avoid these situations it somehow always found a way back, allowing your past to keep digging itself out.
That next afternoon you began receiving phone calls left and right, your heart knew why before picking up any calls. As you held the telephone to your ear so braced yourself for words you already suspected of.
“Have you seen those new photographs?—Caleb and you are all over the papers, even heard from someone that Michael is trying to get in contact with you.” A family friend was the first you’d heard it from, rolling your eyes at the disbelief you moved on to the next call.
Followed by similar words. “Michael still misses you girl, are you and that guy really that official?”
You shook your head in frustration. “It’s been years Ellie, I can’t keep dealing with this. He’s someone from my past and it’s gonna stay that way.”
“I just wish people would leave me alone about this. And besides I don’t understand how he’s acting hurt by it if he’s seeing someone else too..makes no sense.” you spoke all your truths as your boyfriend walked into the room, his hands holding up a newspaper from this mornings new drama.
You took a deep breath as you gave him a small nod. “Ellie I’ll talk to you later, just please let everyone know there’s no need to keep calling.”
You hung up the phone to meet your boyfriend’s gaze. He walked closer to you as he handed you the paper. “It’s everywhere, these people think they have a right to meddle into our relationship.”
You looked at the photograph, evidently it was the one the man had captured just yesterday. It was caleb and you, simply holding hands while at one of your cherished favorite shops on the street. The silky white blouse hugging your waist perfectly with a pair of jeans that fit your legs just right.
Then came the headlines.
“King of pops ex girlfriend has officially moved on?”
“Michael Jackson’s ex girlfriend spotted with new fiancée??”
Your eyes squinted at the stupidity that came from the press. Fiancée??, you barely even got into the relationship. Irritated wasn’t even the strongest word for what you felt.
Letting out a sigh you put it down. “I’m sorry Caleb, I really am. You don’t deserve to get dragged into any of this nonsense.”
“It’s not fair to you, I’m sorry.”
But after countless conversations about the chaos that kept disrupting the relationship, things got ugly fast.
Arguments started erupting more frequently such as, “Now they’re saying you’re meeting him behind my back.”
And to be fair you didn’t necessarily blame him for questioning the situation. The media stayed picking at anything to get a reaction out of you two. You held your breath as you pushed it all down.
They managed to mess up the relationship you treasured with every ounce of your soul, now you certainly weren’t going to allow them to meddle into this one.
-𑣲
Today, the afternoon breeze moved through the city streets of Chicago, you were all alone as you decided a few days apart from Caleb were probably well needed.
For the sake of you both.
You reserved an elegant hotel with all the possible accommodations you could want. Everything seemed perfect, calm.
Looking in the mirror you tugged down your silk dress just a bit lower as you finished getting ready for a night out. Treating yourself to a few drinks. You glanced once more and smiled to yourself as you were pleased with your look, your hair bouncing finely over your shoulders.
Adding a final touch as you added shimmer onto your skin, a hint more of your soft perfume and headed out the door. As you made your way into the lobby you noticed how empty it was for the most part, you decided to find a nearby seat as your taxi hadn’t yet arrived.
Walking into a small space in the lobby you glance at a few magazines that lay on a coffee table and make your way over, the heels on your feet being the only sound heard in the silence of the room.
You browse through the pages as you remain standing choosing which category you were most interested in.
The footsteps that walked into the same spot as you were in went unnoticed as they arrived seemingly quiet. Only barely noticing when they came to a halt.
And softly as ever, a voice that immediately sent a shiver through your body spoke. “Y/n.”
It wasn’t a question it wasn’t anything but an immediate recognition and he hadn’t even seen your face yet. The seconds seemed to slow as you turned to him, hesitantly.
As if looking at him once again would only send you back to a place you left behind, memories you attached yourself from would come flooding back easily.
And the moment you saw his face, they did.
Every single moment came flashing back as you had the face of the man you once loved right in front of you, as if nothing else mattered.
What you didn’t want to admit was how your heart instantly gravitated towards his body, you wanted nothing more than to jump into his arms, feel his warmth. But instead you remained still.
You took in the way his look had changed since the last time you saw him in person. His curls perfectly framing his face, a black leather jacket hugging his shoulders flawlessly. And although his style seemed more mature, more dark. There was a softness there that you recognized all too well.
His eyes made your heart feel like it did all those years ago and you hated it.
It seemed he got all the memories flooding back as well as he watched you in quiet awe. As if he were dreaming, and he didn’t want to wake up to the harsh reality that you weren’t his anymore.
He walked closer to you, cautiously as if moving too fast would make you run away just as quickly. But as he was closer, you couldn’t look him in the eyes, it was still too painful.
“You look beautiful.” his words low, safe.
You wanted nothing more than to return a compliment but then all those photographs of him and different women across the world came into your head, as much as you tried to stay away you had noticed how just a few months ago he had also found himself another new girlfriend.
Funny how he had been hopping around relationships easily, while you just had the courage to give dating a shot again, even then hesitantly.
You finally looked him in the eyes, you wanted to hug him, hit him for leaving you, scream at him for abandoning everything that could’ve been, cry into his arms and melt into him.
Instead you simply gave a light smile, one he immediately recognized wasn’t genuine.
“Thanks Michael, I hope you have a good night.” you hurriedly walked past him, but just as quickly he turned and grabbed your arm.
“Don’t do this-please don’t do this.” The visible hurt in his voice was torturous.
You turned to him as his touch brought you face to face once again, his saddened eyes making your heart shatter.
“Don’t do what?” The built up anger of confusion and despair began creeping into you.
Michael motioned between you two, “This-act like you don’t know me.”
You scoffed as you glanced down. “That’s because I don’t.”
“Not anymore, at least.” you said, your words slowly filled with resentment.
His heart sank at that. “You know that’s not true.”
“It couldn’t ever be true.” his eyes glossy, unsure about if you really meant that or just saying it out of hurt which you both felt.
Shaking your head to prevent the tears stinging at your eyes from falling, “it’s been years Michael, the version of you I once knew changed since then..so it is true —I don’t know you anymore.”
He moved his hand from your arm and instead held your hands in his. Immediately you moved back from his touch. His warmth burned into your skin. The old familiarity of it became too much for your body.
His breath faltered as you pulled back, although it stung his body deeply he respected it, now keeping a little distance. He hated it, hated the way your body tensed at his presence.
“That version is still me y/n, your the only person who has seen me for what I am, the only one I’ve shown myself to in ways I didn’t know were possible.” his voice was weak with vulnerability.
“These past years have been hell—you have no idea how much I’ve missed you.” Michael spoke, and you forced down the empathy for him that flourished inside of you.
A sneer escaped you, “Right, you sure had a way of showing it.”
His body became infected with the feeling of rejection at your coldness, the obvious distance you kept. But confusion also followed as he thought back to how hard he tried to get you back, even now, but especially when the separation first came. He tried every thing, every way possible to communicate with you, he tried.
“The press always tries to put a certain perspective out there, you know how they are—and I’m sorry..I’m so sorry for all the things you heard or read about.”
“But I did show you y/n, i always kept showing you how much I missed you—all the missed calls at the beginning I let go but the night you didn’t answer the door..I realized maybe you were done with me. officially, and I somehow tried to learn to respect that.” he continued, his heart beating as the memories, the pain came back as if it happened just a few minutes ago.
his words barely made out as his glassy eyes looked into yours. “I spent countless nights imagining that you had opened that door, that you had given me another chance and none of this would have been.”
As you listened your heart began to sink even deeper as you couldn’t recall what night he was talking about. He had came looking for you. And you cursed at the world for the wrong timing of it all.
“…you had came back?” the question leaving you just barely.
He nodded with his wet doe eyes as he managed to get closer to you, “I waited by your door for hours, I talked to you thinking you were on the other side..avoiding me.”
Once again you were speechless, swallowing down tears and thinking of what could’ve been.
Swiftly blinking away the tears, the bit of pettiness you had against him was beginning to fade. “I don’t know what to say Michael..”
“I must’ve not been home that night—but for all it’s worth..I wouldn’t have ignored you.”
With that final sentence a glimpse of hope entered his eyes, visibly lighting up at your confession.
“Are you saying you weren’t yet over me when it happened?”, he asked, carefully observing your face.
You lightly scoffed. “Of course I wasn’t, Michael. It took me embarrassingly long to get over you.”
“Why do you think I barely got into a relationship?” you say without thinking much of it.
Instantly noticing the way his expression fell. It took me embarrassingly long to get over you. Your words replayed inside his head, you were over him. Everything seemed to blur for an instant as he remembered the last few paparazzi photographs that you had appeared in with your new boyfriend.
He knew it wasn’t necessarily right for him to feel jealous or upset about it, but he couldn’t help it. He hated it, despised the way that man held you. Hated how happy you looked by someone else’s side.
And although he knew he no longer had a right to feel a certain way over it, he called you.Like usual you didn’t respond and he only grew more impatient.
Every being in his body missed your touch, craving that warmth he loved, that now was adrift.
“..right” He bit his lip as he looked down.
Then turning his gaze back onto you, a certain look entered his eyes, “is he good to you?” he asked, just like that. Like it was a simple harmless question.
You let out a breathy sigh, “He’s a good guy, Michael.”
“That’s not what I asked.” firmly, confident now.
You switch your gaze to the side, unable to look at him. Your body still adjusting to the way his figure was inches away from you after years of absence.
“..Yes, he’s good to me.” you respond, faintly.
A sudden warmth touched your face, his fingers gently guiding your face to his, along with the heat of his body now nearer than before.
“Don’t lie to me.” his voice thick, a knowing look onto his face.
“I’m not.”
“I still know you enough to know you are.” The words shooting an aching feeling through your chest, the certainty in his voice.
“You’re being unfair, Michael.”
“The world is unfair, honey. It was unfair when it took you from me.” his tone dropping to something more soft, delicate.
Your words got stuck in your throat as he lifted your chin just slightly, his touch lingering dangerously. As you remained wordless he gently—carefully inched his face closer to you. The silent movements filled with heavy energy, tension that had your heart beating far too quickly.
He took your silence as a green light to keep his proximity, his nose brushed against yours faintly. Just enough to cause you to crave him profoundly, a nostalgic passion flowing through your veins as his touch was irresistible.
You then backed up, only slightly as your lower back collided against the large desk behind you. Michael immediately fell into you, his arms trapping you against his body. Only the soft sound of your breathing could be heard.
He tilted his head slightly, his fingers gently caressing your cheek, his touch burning into your skin, “Why did you go quiet on me?”, he whispered while his eyes carried a shimmer as they observed you.
His eye contact felt suffocating in the most intoxicating manner possible, you wanted nothing more than to close that inch of gap and connect your lips onto his but you held back, scantily so.
You then avoid his gaze as you respond, “This isn’t right, Michael.” Steadily returning to holding your pride.
He moved his head so he could catch the truth in your eyes but he couldn’t, and it only fired him up. “Look at me and say you don’t feel the same way I do.”
After a few long seconds you finally meet his eyes, “I have a boyfriend..and you have a girlfriend, we can’t be this type of people.” your body betrayed your words, you both could feel it.
The sparkle in his eyes faltered, a softer expression placed upon his features. “But we both know that what we have isn’t replaceable, does that guy treat you better than I did?” he questioned, a mix of teasingly confidence swirled upon his words.
Your mind traveled to all the ways Michael made you feel that you couldn’t find in anyone else, the way your bodies fit together like they were made for each other. The feeling he brought was an aching passion that was impossible to find in any other person, you definitely couldn’t deny that even if you could.
And to your inconvenience he could read you like the back of his hand, he had a magical way of feeling your thoughts before they even entered your mind.
your silence continued as you didn’t want to give in, all the feelings that were traveling through your body becoming heavy. “…does he, hmm?”
You swallowed, “It’s different with him, Michael—I can have a sense of freedom when I’m with him.” you softly said and his heart sank at the thought.
It was true, that was something you both could admit and be mature enough to realize. Still you both knew that the outside world couldn’t quite destroy the love you two held. Yes being with Michael felt as if you had the entire universe after you, intruding into something special and private, but the love and adoration you shared outweighed all the outside voices.
It was worth it in the end, but you hated how it somehow did gain the power to destroy the relationship you had once treasured with your entire life.
“I’m sorry the life I live can’t give you that, y/n..you have no idea how much it hurts me that I can’t afford the luxury of walking around the streets with you without hundreds of people following us around—I wish with everything in me that I could give you that normalcy couples have, I do.”
“But you always find a way to ground me, a way to escape all the chaos and see everything differently when I have the opportunity to have you by my side.” His voice was as vulnerable and gentler than ever, his touch still lingered on your face. “I’ve felt so lost without you.”
You took in every single word he said, your heart leaping out of your chest. In a way you had figured that throughout the years he had felt lost for a while after the breakup, but you didn’t want to allow yourself to feel pity, but now hearing him say the words you refused to believe. It gave you a feeling that made you terrified of what it may cause.
“I promised myself, i promised myself I wouldn’t fall back into this with you.” you finally spoke, your voice breaking as you felt the need to take it all out onto him.
For all the days you woke up with an aching headache in results of crying your eyes out all night, for all the nights you spent looking at the moon wondering if somewhere across the world he was too. For the hurt that welcomed itself into your body for so long that you had lost track. And then for the days you still spent loving him, sneaking glances at what he was up to, finding yourself listening to his music just to hear his voice once more.
His frame hovered over yours, his hands found a way to yours, caressing your skin softly, he noticed the way you were allowing his touch and he carefully found a way to maintain that access.
“Why are you so afraid of loving me again?” The question shot at your heart, the naked words aching at your chest.
The broken look in his eyes killed you, “You don’t understand, Michael.”
He cupped your hands tighter against his. “Then help me understand, please—tell me what I need to do.”
“I’ll do anything.” he pleaded, his words were exposed to you.
The words once again got stuck in your throat, knowing everything depended upon your next response.
You managed to slip your hands out of his, instead you slowly let your fingers reach his face, gently touching his features. He instantly melted into your touch. You felt the warmth of his skin against your palm, he placed his hand on top of yours. The seconds seemed to slow as tears formed in your eyes.
Faintly the words escaped your lips, “I never stopped loving you, Michael..that’s the problem.”
“All these years—I haven’t been able to get you out my mind.” , you spoke with your heart, leaving you exposed with your affection.
His breath faltered at your honest confession, his eyes filled with love brighter than the stars, you had finally let that wall down and allowed yourself to be vulnerable.
“What’s stopping you then, baby?” he murmured, his fingers made contact with your lips, gently brushing over them.
The nickname that fell from his mouth left you in a trance, the fond memories it carried filled your mind. “We’re both seeing other people now..it’s not so easy.”
He instantly brought his forehead to rest onto yours, you felt his hand cupping your face, looking into your eyes—his gaze burning through you.
He whispered, faintly. “They don’t have to know.”
“I can easily break it off, I will.” , he assured confidently.
“I can’t deny the spite I feel when I see you with him.” he continued, his voice more controlled, firm.
The words that left his mouth, so raw and assured left you speechless. You knew it was wrong, no matter how much your bodies craved each other. The line you were both so tempted to cross was getting thinner as the tension grew.
You swallowed, “…I don’t know what to do.” you admitted, his face still merely inches away from yours.
Your shaky voice casted a soft look into his eyes. “What is your heart telling you to do, baby?” he spoke with a gentleness that further fused you into his touch.
“Don’t be afraid to follow your emotions, it’s just you and me here.” he continued, the caring stare in his eyes pulled at your chest.
You remained silent as you cursed at the way your body couldn’t resist his presence, the gentle manner in which he spoke and still cared for you. Most of all the way in which you loved him, still.
Despising how the longer he looked into your eyes, so intimately, the less you cared about the way you had a boyfriend in another city waiting for your return, and you hated yourself for that.
You slightly bit your bottom lip as you quickly glanced at his lips, the motion didn’t go unnoticed by him, obvious by the sparkle that twinkled in his eyes, and that little sly smile that poked at his face.
Swiftly and almost cautiously you brought your face to his, his nose brushing against yours. You could feel your heart pounding as his lips hovered over yours. Then the millions of thoughts that had been swirling around your head came to a halt as you felt the warmth of his lips meeting yours in a soft long craved kiss.
The softness in which his mouth made contact with your lips was sending your body a shiver filled with desire and exhilaration. He held your face in his hands as his lips stayed on yours, the passion he transmitted through his warm touch was forceful with longing.
Placing your hands softly around his neck you brought his body even closer, practically glued onto each other. You could feel his heart beating against yours, a smile tug at your lips in between the kiss. Grasping the moment that had fallen before you, it was intoxicating and terrifying all at once. Knowing the future chaos that might follow.
You pulled away for a breath of air, taking in Michael’s sudden messy hair, his curls falling disheveled and his plush pink lips glossy from your lips. he looked angelic, alluring as he stood in front of you.
It was a sight that you mentally took a photograph of, you never wanted to forget this moment. The way his eyes watched you with such devotion. He made you feel as if it were only you two, in some far away galaxy where everything was magical. It scared you, in some beautiful erratic way.
He caressed your face delicately, “I don’t ever want to lose you again. I promise if you allow me to be part of your life once more—I’ll do everything to make things right. I won’t fail you.”
Tears began casting his face, “I need you.” his voice filled with emotion, exposing his heart onto you. “I love you.”
You leaned in as you kissed away his tears, your chest felt heavy with sentiment. Your mind troubled.
His eyes fluttered at your touch. You pulled back to gaze into him. “I love you too, I always have..but I think we both need to sort out some things before we continue any of this.”
You saw the way his expression fell for a second, he lightly nodded his head as he looked at you. He inched closer to you as he took your hands into his. “Just promise me..you won’t run away this time.”
“Promise me you’ll pick up my calls, please don’t avoid me.” His last words came out as a broken whisper.
You softly touched his curls as you assured him, “I promise you, Michael. I really do.”
“When we resolve everything, you’ll have me. I’ll be there, and we’ll give everything we had left to accomplish together another chance.” you spoke with a small hopeful smile on your face.
Just as he was about to speak, the sudden honk of a taxi outside the hotel was heard. He suddenly felt the coldness of the wind as you removed your touch from his. Giving him a rosy yet lonely smile. “I need to go now, mike.”
The broken expression across his face shattered you. The fear that you won’t come back filled his body. The pain at the thought of this being the only moment he got to see you before you decide he’s not worth a second chance poked at his chest.
As the words didn’t leave him you realized the thoughts that were probably coming into his mind. “We’ll see each other once again, we will.”
“Call me. I’ll be on the other end without a doubt.” you whisper as you then gently let go of his hand.
You turned to walk away as you couldn’t bring yourself to stay longer and listen to something that will probably convince you to stay, as you walked a few steps down the lobby you felt a hand grab you, twirling you around so you were face to face.
Michael hurriedly pulled you into a hungry passionate kiss, his gentle but firm embrace melting you into him. His hands traveled down to your waist, pulling you flush into his body. His lips moved against yours so perfectly, made for one another.
He made a soft noise as he felt how naturally your body felt against his. After a few seconds he pulled away breathlessly, “stay.”
“Please stay with me—we can fix everything as soon as we’re outta here. But for right now, stay by my side, I can’t watch you walk away anymore.” his voice pouring with the love and honesty that’s been fueling his soul.
You watched him as your chest was rising up and down with the weight of it all. Flickering your gaze to the ground quickly you let your heart make its decision. “You always make leaving so difficult, y’know that?” you say with a slight shake of your head.
he lets out a small chuckle, “Well why leave in the first place, baby?” He held onto your waist closely, softly moving a strand of hair behind your ear, his gaze so connected to you.
You bit down on your lip hiding a smile. The sparkle his eyes carried was so mesmerizing shooting butterflies through your body. The weight of his body on yours was hugging your heart with infatuation.
You scoffed a playful chuckle, “Don’t know..guess I gotta break that habit.”
He squinted his eyes at you, that boyish smile across his face. “I have this whole night to convince you, girl.”
With the shared longing and admiration you ended the night by his side, feeling all types of emotions run through your body with ease. Feeling content as your soul felt the warmth of the moment.
Who knows if time will work out in your favor, but for now you will shut out the rest of the world and let the flow of your heart lead you to territory that may terrify you yet intoxicate your mind.
What may happen the second the new day begins is awaiting across the morning skylight, the wonderment your heart desires is aching to be fulfilled.
𑣲. a/n- I feel like this didn’t completelyyy fill my cup of tea so I may do a part 2..mightt.
Summary- You and your best friend Michael go to a concert, his demeanor changes as he notices just how excited you get for the guy on stage.
୨ৎ-
The whole night has been filled with loud voices, drinks spilled across the floor and the music flowing through the air.
Michael kept his hand on your lower back, in a respectful manner, just in the way every other man in your space was aware, he knew the way other guys would behave so he always looked out for you.
He’d been wanting to spend time with you, alone. And tonight as you had an extra ticket for a concert you invited him. He gladly accepted without caring about who was going to perform, as long as he was with you.
“So, who are we here to see?” he finally asked as you took a seat in your spots.
You turned to him, his eyes already on yours. “Johnny lavoe, he’s a greaatt singer. I’ve been waiting to see him live.” You said all giddy, taking a glance at the stage right in front of you.
He just nodded as he took in your words. “Mm” a slight hum leaving his mouth.
Making conversation as you waited, he took a closer notice at the way you styled your hair differently, how you added shimmer to your eyes and to the way that dress fit perfectly against your body.
He attempted to not make it obvious, but you definitely caught his stare more than once, watching you in a way you knew there was something else on his mind.
“Is everything okay, mike?” you softly asked.
He softly smiled as he looked at you. “Yeah, yeah everything’s fine” he murmured. “you look really good, tonight.” he continued, throwing you a shy compliment.
A smile tug on your lips. “thank you”
“So do you.” you say as you see the slight blush form on his face, catching it through the dark lights of the room.
As he lets out a flustered ‘thank you’, the screaming fans began chanting as the stage light came on. You switched your gaze on over to the stage, watching with a sparkle in your eyes as you saw the artist come out.
Michael didn’t miss the way you watched the other guy in awe. He tried not overthinking it, shoving down the pang of jealousy that lingered. He knew you two were just friends, he didn’t have a right to feel this way. But his body couldn’t help but feel a certain way about it.
As the show went on, you swayed away with the music. Singing along as you tugged on Michael’s hand for certain lyrics. He only looked at you with a smile, he didn’t know the lyrics but he tried going along.
When you heard that all familiar intro to your favorite song you nearly fell to your knees. “I love this song!!” you turn over to Michael, who’s watching you with the biggest smile on his face. He loved the way he could see how excited you were.
But then again that sensation kicked in as he saw the way the singer came to the side of the stage you were at. Johnny looked at you, specifically pointing at you and winked. You blew him a kiss with ease. Like it was a common thing.
Michael couldn’t control the sudden expression that took over his face. He just froze as he saw the moment that occurred. Quick but seemed intimate, he didn’t like it.
Then you looked over at Michael, “gosh, he’s so cute” you say, not thinking much of it.
He didn’t respond, just raised his eyebrows with a barely visible smile.
More songs went on, more shared glances between you and the guy on stage. Michael obviously noticed and it irked him. Does the guy not see him standing, next to you??
The lights began to dimmer as the show came to an end, people began leaving the floor before the traffic got too hectic. Suddenly a security guard motioned to you. “Hey young lady, the gentleman backstage wanted you to have this.” He handed you a foldable photo card as you opened it you saw in small bright letters.
‘hope you enjoyed the show, pretty girl. I’d love to see you more, give me a call - (241-761-9751)’
A smile formed on your face as you couldn’t believe the words on the page.
Michael only saw the look on your face. “What is it?” he asked as he moved closer to take a peak at the message. A look of disgust and disbelief entered his face.
He scoffed. “What a scum.”
You chuckled. “Oh stop, it’s sweet- I can’t believe it.” you stayed in awe, putting the photo gently into your bag.
He shook his head and put your hand in his, leading you out the crowd. “We should get going.”
You followed behind, watching Michael shoving his other hand into his jacket pocket to reach for his shades. Putting them on swiftly.
As you were finally able to get some outside air, you noticed the way his body demeanor had changed. He was quiet, too quiet.
You gently tested the waters. “That was amazing, did you enjoy it?” you asked him.
He avoided your gaze, as he walked you over to the car.
“Yeah, it was good.” he said flatly.
Something was up, you knew it. But you didn’t say anything else. The car ride was silent, filled with unspoken words. You glanced at him here and there, his shades hid his eyes, but you could still see the pout on his lips. He was deep in thought, bothered in a sense.
As you arrived back at his house, like old custom. Every hangout would end up with a sleepover at his place, so tonight was just like all those other nights. You both got out the vehicle, thanked bill and headed over to the door. Michael walked in front of you, opening the door for you. The silence of the home being empty filled the air.
He hadn’t said a word to you since back at the show. You both walked up the steps, headed to his room. He held the door open for you, he took his jacket off and threw it on top of the bed.
He let out a breath as he bit on his lips, a quiet, tense silence remained.
You looked at him, tried to at least. Taking in the way his back straightened and his jaw tensed. “What’s wrong?” you spoke.
He just glanced up at you. “Are you gonna call him?”
His voice was filled with some type of frustration, but still remained soft.
You huffed. “Michael, is that really what has you upset?” you asked.
“Is that why you’ve been all tense?” you say as you take a step closer.
He sighed, running his hand through his soft curls. “I just-I’m worried, I mean what type of person just leaves someone a message like that?”
“He doesn’t know you, he doesn’t even know if you’re single.”
A slight laugh leaves you, “Well I am single so..”
Michael felt a tug on his heart as he heard that. A silence followed.
“It’s not a big deal, Mike. He just wants to go out.” you assure him. Oblivious to what’s really bugging him the way it is.
He just shook his head, a slight frown tugging on his lips.
You took a seat on his bed, patting on the empty space for him to take a seat next to you. He followed, his shoulders low as he glanced at the ground.
You poked his stomach trying to get his attention. “I’ll be safe, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
He gave you a side eye, as he shook his head once more. “Doesn’t mean he will.”
You could see the annoyance filling up his body. “I mean what gives him the right?-he thinks with a simple little performance and a pass of a number he can get anyone he wants?” he scoffed.
“A complete douche if you ask me.” his voice filled with pettiness.
You chuckled, “Well I thought he put on a great performance.”
He turned to you now, eyes sharp onto yours. “Oh I bet you did, you were practically shooting heart eyes at the guy.”
You shook your head at his comment. “I wasn’t.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Gosh, he’s so cute”
“I’ve been waiting to see him” he mocked your words from earlier.
“Definitely was a little too excited for the guy-what’s his name again..Johnny?” he spoke.
You rolled your eyes. “Yes Michael, that guy has a name.”
He huffed out a sarcastic laugh. “Right, and now you have his personal phone number.”
The thought leaving a bitter taste. “…I don’t think you should meet up with him.”
You took a closer look at the way his voice lowered. “Why?, it really doesn’t seem like a bad idea.”
He didn’t know what to say, he knew it wasn’t a bad idea. If he didn’t see you the way he did, if he hadn’t had fallen for you the way he did. Well then sure it wouldn’t be a bad thing.
But he fell for you, hard. So no he sure as hell wasn’t going to let you go on so easily.
“You just shouldn’t y/n.” he replied, his tone more firm.
You let out an annoyed scoff. “Well that doesn’t sound like a good enough of a reason for me-besides I don’t know why you care so much whether I do or don’t.” The words leaving you frustrated.
He stood up, pacing back and forth. Getting impatient. “Because you don’t see it the way I do, I just don’t see why you would want to go out with some random guy when you have me!” his confession falling hard into the air.
You both froze. Looking at each other as the words lingered.
You opened your mouth to speak, “What are you getting at..?”
He swallowed, looking around the room, realizing he said more than he wanted to.
“You have me, y/n. You always have- I can’t stand the thought of just letting you go into another guy’s arms…I just can’t.”
The words softly left him. “I know we’re just friends, but seeing the way you looked at him tonight..seeing how you got for another person. It made me feel awful.” his words flowed without thought.
Your heart dropped as you heard the hurt is his voice. Thinking back at how he was quiet earlier, and why it affected him the way it did.
Letting out a small breath, you stood until you were face to face with him. His eyes were filled with so much emotion, that’s one of the most precious things about him. His eyes alone would show all the emotions he sometimes feared to say out loud.
“Michael” you reach for a loose curl that fell against his forehead. “I’m sorry, I really am. I didn’t know it would hurt you this much.”
you continued as his eyes looked deeper into yours. his strong eye contact intimidating you just enough to make you melt under his gaze.
“but just so you know..i never planned on actually going out with him.” you lightly confess.
He furrowed his eyebrows as he watched you intently. “You didn’t?”
You shook your head with a slight smile. “No..I just wanted to pull your strings a little, to know if you care.”
he bashfully smirked. “You’re evil, y’know that?”
you bit down your smile. “Maybe a little. I just couldn’t help it.”
He laughed as he came closer to your face, lowering his tone. “Well I do care.” he spoke. “more than I should, that’s the issue.”
A warmth came into your heart. “It’s not an issue if I feel the same way.” you softly spoke, his gaze flickered to your lips before returning to your eyes.
A cocky smile pulling at his lips. “oh, do you now?”
You rolled your eyes as you lightly hit his chest.
“..yeah, actually I do.”
As the words left your lips you felt him wrap his arm around your waist, pulling you into him completely. His lips suddenly on yours, so soft, so passionately. The way his body was perfectly against yours. It felt like a dream and you never wanted to wake up from it.
His hands moved to your face, tracing your lips as he pulled away and gazed into you. Catching his breath, “I love you y/n, I regret not telling you sooner.”
You smiled as you watched just how much he had been holding on to those words. “I love you too” you caressed his face. “I always have.”
The words clung onto his heart, tightly. His hands traveled onto your lower back, this time claiming you. Still new to the feeling of having him this close to you, it felt magical.
“You have no idea how crazy you’ve been driving me, sweet thing.” He gently grazed your skin.
“And by the way, I can put on a way better performance than him.” he teased as he awaited your response.
You hum, “you’ll have to show me again, I forgot.”
He scoffed, tilted his head at you. “Oh you forgot?, I’ll remind you in a heartbeat.” he whispered into your ear lowly.
You giggled as you put your head on his chest. And sure enough the next time he put on a performance he went all out. No surprise he showed you the best you’d ever seen.
And the next time he walked into his room, he noticed the photo card with Johnny’s number thrown away into his trash bin. He had wondered what you did with it, now he knew.
