While I love a good book. Why is it that when there’s a strong female lead she’s also stubborn to the point of no reason. I know the world isn’t cut and dry but I don’t appreciate the way authors make the protagonist so strong to the point where they’re obstinate. Seriously, you’d so stubborn you end up putting yourself first and others get hurt trying to make you see reason.
I debated making this post. I love Chris Cannon, I love The going down in flames series. The third book though, why is Bryn so focused on having a relationship. This narrative that teens should always be in relationship to be happy is annoying. Why can’t we be satisfied with platonic friendship type relationships. It’s so easy to get carried away. I’m not usually a person to complain about romance in fiction however, I find it most annoying in this particular instance. It has nothing to do with the fact that Bryn has a relationship with someone sworn to protector her. But I just find a relationship so forced, I find myself cringing to read their relationship. Usually I don’t swipe or skim however, I’ve been skimming through the parts with her and Valmont. Like Val seems like a really cool fella but I think not all friendships or relationships should be romantic. Maybe I’m overthinking or overanalysing.
