Does anyone remember the Miner Story from the anime’s finale? How strange and cryptic it was? Well. It’s even more important that we remember it now, with the manga’s new arc. Because this story reveals things that are now being shown in the manga, and was clearly written, as I’d expected, as a story for the manga-readers to digest and think about.

Originally, this aired when everyone was still trying to get Eren back from BRY. I remember people mostly focusing on the fact that the walls have a bottom, and talking about that rather than anything else. But no one seemed to talk about the various plot holes:

If the miner managed to tell people about his findings, how come no one knows? Hange herself even talked about how horrible it would be if the titans learned to dig, because they’d be able to dig under the walls- it’s clearly not common knowledge.

AoT is not a magical story. How did the miner and the hole disappear? That makes no sense… Right?

It was so confusing, and we couldn’t really make sense of it at the time, beyond the basics. It’s… Almost similar to the cryptic foreshadowings we’ve seen of BRA being titan shifters. And we all know how much Isayama loves foreshadowing.

Read it again. If you do, I’m sure those of you keeping up with the manga will realize what I’m pointing out here: this was a foreshadowing of the Central Police’s antics. This is one of the stories that was a result of what people like Sanes did. People heard him talk, and it got reported. The Central Military kidnapped him and most likely killed him, and when his friend went to the Garrison about it, they and the MP covered up the entire thing. That’s why it was ‘a large-scale search party … a little excessive for one poor miner.' They were never searching for him, they were covering his tracks and making sure that no one ever found that hole. And that explains why his friend was later kidnapped, as well: he knew, and they couldn’t allow that.

This was all just one of the many cover-ups the MP have done, of which we’ve seen one of in the last chapter. Even the journalists are on the side of the MPs- and that’s how this never, ever became common knowledge. That’s how not even Hange knew:
