If you haven’t seen Endgame, don’t read this.
It’s currently 8:29 a.m., I got out of the cinema five hours ago. I went to the midnight release, as usual. Anyway, I loved the movie, so so much, even if my brother’s and my predictions did happen, I am satisfied with that. Something I’ve been waiting for since AoU happened, finally, and the room SCREAMED. When Mjölnir trembles and it flies and lands on Steve’s hand? The only thing I could feel was joy. He deserves this. And as my friends and I joked “Steve is a better Thor, than Thor.” That scene left Thor’s entrance in Wakanda in the past. It was spectacular. The whole movie was amazing, I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I got awed. It was a rollercoaster and I loved it.
Now, now we are going to talk about the one thing that has been bothering me since IW, but I could pass back then, but finally, took the cake this time:
Bucky and Steve’s relationship.
Or lack there of.
I wanted Stucky to be a real thing, okay, they have one of the deepest and most meaningful relationships in all of the MCU, but I knew it wouldn’t happen, I had made my peace with that. You know what I hadn’t made my peace with? What we got. It was like the more people loved Stucky and wanted it to happen, the farther apart they got, like they were trying to discourage us, and it angers me.
Let’s talk Endgame, bcs in IW they got better treatment.
As I watched it, I could only think: are you telling me that in those 5 years where they failed, Steve didn’t talk once about his grief of losing Bucky not once but thrice? That again, he couldn’t save him nor keep him safe? The one thing he has been trying to do since TFA? You are telling me that Steve doesn’t say his name once, at all? That the first person he turns to when everyone returns and when he is standing there, about to say “I can do this all day”, isn’t Bucky, that Bucky doesn’t immediately go to Steve, even if they have been doing this since they were children, because they were each other’s worlds, because even when Steve had nothing, he had Bucky, and they would go literally to the end of the line for each other? You’re telling me, that this incredibly deep and meaningful friendship, doesn’t get more than a goodbye where they repeat their lines from TFA when Bucky is being shipped off to war? That’s what their entire arc boils down to? This is what Steve dropped his shield three times for, what he fought the entire world to protect him, his team, for? What Bucky broke his Winter Soldier programming for, who he went to war back for twice? This is what their relationship ends in, in Bucky not even walking up to Steve, to a Steve who got to grow old, and saying he loves him and is happy for him?
It isn’t fair. And I am angry.
This is mistreatment of their relationship, not even in a romantic aspect, but just as friends, as family. I am angry because those two deserved better. They deserved to grow old together quietly, on their terms. Both of them. Bucky doesn’t want to fight anymore either, he wanted to live quietly, but no, you are making him atone for sins that he didn’t commit consciously, because he was a victim. He deserved a quiet life with Steve.
Fuck you, Marvel. It’s the one thing I’m angry about.
They deserved better.
