LOVE VICTOR | 2.01 Perfect Summer Bubble
thoughts on it's a sin?????
Kind of already talked about this but (obviously spoilers ahead):
- Overall I liked it.
- I really hate that shows that are premised on LGBT+ story telling are often devoid of a) canonically queer women and b) canonically trans umbrella people.
- Expanding on that, I was kind of seeing Jill as a metaphor for the fact that queer women did a lot of the physical and emotional labor during the HIV/AIDS crisis because other people wouldn’t. I found it strange that she was never given an identity of her own/never established as queer. I know that she’s based on a real life person, but simply from a storytelling AND diversity perspective, it was odd that she didn’t have a personal life the entire time and it was odd that canonical queer women barely existed in the show/didn’t get a story.
- Similarly, I don’t appreciate it when trans characters are implied to exist in the background of a story but don’t really get to be there and speak and have a narrative. Trans people have always been present in LGBT+ circles and at the forefront of LGBT+ activism, and not having one of the main group be canonically gender diverse is, I think, a pretty shocking oversight.
- I like that the show gives younger queer people an opportunity to learn about our communities’ history, I think that’s very important.
- I like that the characters remaining at the end were POC, although arguably that’s partially because some of the POC characters (like Ash) weren’t the focus of the story/didn’t get much attention/it wasn’t really about them.
- I really struggled to like Richie until the last two episodes, but I think Ollie Alexander did a good job. I just thought Richie was annoying af.
- For me it felt like a show that was kind of almost there but not really. In a way I wish it was a season with more episodes because a lot of the characters felt under-utilised and not fleshed out (eg Richie’s sister was clearly very envious of him and felt guilt later on - that was interesting but almost entirely implied).
- I found some of the guest stars/their roles really unnecessary in the broader story and a waste of screen time. Mainly Stephen Fry.
- I thought the emphasis on Richie’s family in the last episode was actually very weird and jarring. It was the final episode and instead of spending most of it with the main characters, we spent most of it watching Richie’s mother be a rampant dickhead.
- I’ve seen...better queer tv shows in recent years and I’ve seen better tv/film exploring HIV/AIDS so I don’t entirely get people hyping it, but at the same time I thought it was pretty good, although not great.

LOVE, VICTOR SPOILERS
I'm sorry, I don't mean to go all buzzfeed unsolved but this cliffhanger made me so mad so I just want to say, if you compare the doorbell and the wall
with the wall next to benji's front door
and rahim's
it has to be benji's. benji's is painted a similar greyish green colour whereas rahim's is white and brick.
and yes there are plenty more sane reasons why it will be benji at the door but I had to go back and look because I'm like that okay? I'm sorry for my existence
How is it that I am a grown-ass married woman who still can't figure out my sexuality?! I feel like I should have my shit together a little by now.. I'm kind of ashamed to even talk to anyone about it.
The greatest!
