Hey there!
Welcome to the world of the 101 Dalmatians Neo-Sixties AU! Click "keep reading" below for more info on this wonderfully retro-futuristic world!
SO… WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS AU?
Exactly what it says on the tin, my dear reader, an AU combining elements of all three major animated iterations of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians (the original 1961 movie and its DTV sequel, the 1990s animated series, and 2019’s 101 Dalmatian Street animated series), crammed together into a deliberately anachronistic world inhabited by anthropomorphic dogs, with all the progress, technology and societal standards/rights of the modern world, but with the culture and aesthetic of the 1960s, when the original film took place and was made. Imagine things like live-tweeting from Woodstock, audience-recorded footage of The Beatles (or rather, the Beagles) on the Ed Sullivan Show, live reactions to the moon landing, etc, and you’ll probably get the picture.
WHAT’S THE BACKSTORY?
If you’ve seen the original 101 Dalmatians movie, you know what to expect, however, there’s a few changes to make this work better for an anthro universe. Naturally, there are no humans, so Pongo and Perdita essentially take Roger and Anita’s place in the beginning, right down to meeting in a similar way. Cruella’s a hairless dog who wants to hunt down and skin the Dalmatians to make a coat, since she believes that faux-fur isn’t enough for her (hey, if she’s crazy in one universe, she’s crazy in all of them). After having the initial litter, Pongo and Perdi rescue the other captive pups from Cruella and adopt them as their own.
…and now, after the events of the film, here’s where our story picks up. Cruella’s been locked up in supermax prison, and the Dalmatians have used the cash they got from donations, financial compensation and the like to move into a new home, an enormous estate in the heart of London. The Neo-Sixties AU will primarily function as a slice of life series, showing many aspects of the blissful yet chaotic life that the family leads, both at the mansion and around the bustling city of London.
Basically, imagine the original generation of Dalmatians (plus some characters from The Series and Street, as well as some original characters) trying to manage their individual lives with such a massive family, and getting up to the occasional bit of 101DS-style shenanigans.
WHO ARE OUR MAJOR PLAYERS?
In a few words each…
Pongo: Father. Firm but caring. Loves playing games with his kids. Everybody loves him! Just don’t mess with him and his family.
Perdita: Mother. Upbeat and loving. Amateur fashion designer. Snarky when tired/angry. Isn’t afraid to kick ass when needed.
Lucky: Lives up to his name! Playful and adorable, loves soccer. Stood up to Cruella and earned a reputation as the unofficial leader of the pups.
Patch: Active and outgoing. Sleeps in so he can stay up late. Thunderbolt superfan. Has seen every episode and runs a fan club.
Penny: Daddy’s girl. Feminine and kind. Fan of her mother’s designs. Adores the Beatles Beagles. Can and will get dirty if absolutely necessary. Girlfriend of Scott.
Rolly: Pudgy dork. Big eater. Full of love! Wants to be a food critic when he grows up. Has a tier list of the best chips in London. Silly little guy, always means well.
Deepak: Spiritual and soft-spoken. Loves everyone. Always tries to find a peaceful way out. Follower of Guru Miaow. Plays the sitar. Searches for inner cat.
DJ: Music nerd. Frequents local underground clubs. Runs and hosts a pirate radio station. Always looking for the next big sound and the latest hits to play.
Dante: Beatnik. Writes dark poetry to recite at slams. Drinks coffee, and way too much of it. Gets the jitters frequently. Pretends to be too cool for everybody, but has a soft spot for his family.
Scott: Doberman. Family’s permanent house guest. Unofficial 102nd dalmatian. Always has a plan. Absolute nerd. Loves Penny more than anything. “Part of the family.”
WHERE’S CRUELLA IN ALL THIS?
Just a reminder from above, she’s been deemed criminally insane and locked up in prison after the events of the original movie. She ain’t showing up in the AU aside from mentions and the occasional flashback. Sorry to all the Cruella fans, but I don’t care if she’s a “girlboss”, I’m not glorifying someone who planned to murder and skin innocent puppies.
WHO IS THIS MADE FOR?
If you’re a fan of 101 Dalmatians, anthropomorphic animals, swinging 60s London and/or a retro-futuristic version thereof, I’m sure you’ll love this AU!
AM I ALLOWED TO MAKE ART OF THIS AU?
Of course! Just run it by me first and I’ll approve it if it sounds good. If you wanna surprise me, that’s fine too!
DO YOU PLAN TO PITCH THIS TO DISNEY?
Absolutely not. This is a fan-made AU and I intend to keep it that way. It would be cool if Disney did something like this, but I’m not counting on it, and I won’t be the one to start it, either.
...that's it! Enjoy the AU, and feel free to ask the cast anything or submit posts! (Please be respectful when doing so.)
