also ok forgive me for not being able to shut up about how much I hate academia sometimes (from now on im tagging all of my union gripes with #union tag) but like. how is a salary that covers housing not a reasonable expectation from an employer. i cant believe the university doesnt think that housing is something we necessarily should be "given" as employees like WHAT a fucking slap in the face. they also told us directly that they pay us for our labor (so you undervalue our labor, ok), not for cost of living. i know many people living out of their cars. this is straight up so insulting i don't even know where to begin. and transportation! the school has put so much effort into advertising itself as green! providing grads with public transport options helps! your! case! but oh thats right they only care about optics and less about action. also saying international workers should be subject to extra fees to be here? like you hired them. bitch. aLSO they keep trying to pull this as an undergrad vs grad issue by saying that if they raise our wages theyll have to raise undergrad tuition. HELLO you have a fucking bloated admin sucking up a huge amount of funding. and a major settlement happening literally every week because its easier to just pay out the ass than do even the slightest bit of grievance reform. the president was just given a 6.5 million dollar mansion. football coaches have multi million dollar salaries. proving a COL adjustment for every single grad would only take up 3% of the damn current budget. wheres the dril "help me budget this" tweet.
