Henrik knocks on your door, a loud rap that alerts you to his presence. He’s holding a black umbrella to keep the pelting rain off of him as he waits, and he curls more tightly into his cream-colored sweater and grey pea coat to stave off the chill of the night.
Impatiently, he knocks again.
Eyebrows knot at the sound of the knock. She was about to ignore it, that was until the knocks become impatient, who could it be at these hours? With a sigh she stands from her chair, setting the book she was reading down on the coffee table before heading to the door. Brown eyes widen in surprise when the door opens and reveals who is knocking.
“H-Henrik? What a l-lovely surprise! Please, come in!”
She makes sure to get out of the way so Henrik can come in. Giving her time to look away to avoid the doctor seeing the light blush on her cheeks.
He steps into your home, taking a moment to shake his umbrella off outside before he closes the door and props the item up beside it. Then, without warning, he grabs your face in both of his hands, pull you forward, and plants a kiss on your lips. It lasts only a moment before he’s pulling away with a grin. His hands slide down to grip your arms, and he shakes you lightly as he exclaims, “I think I’ve done it!”
One moment she was closing the door and then the other soft, plush lips were pressing against his. Cheeks heat up furiously as her eyes widen in surprise, her heart picking up the pace and hammering against her rib cage threatening to burst out. As quick as it happened it ended, cold hands sliding from her flushed cheeks to her arms.
She almost missed his words, for she was still hung on the fact that the doctor kissed her out of the blue. Head softly shakes side to side, an attempt to get rid of the thoughts racing through her head and focusing on the now.
“D-Done what e-exactly?”
The doctor laughs heartily as he shrugs his damp coat off and hangs it by the door above his umbrella. He turns back to you with that same grin.
“I think I have finally figured out how to code human DNA in such a way that allows lost limbs to regrow!”
He wraps his arms around you, picks you up, and spins you around.
“Just imagine it!”
A squeak escapes her lips when the doctor swoops her off her feet, arms wrapping tightly around his shoulders while he spins her around. She couldn’t help but chuckle at the excitement on Henrik’s voice. He had been working nonstop for months and to finally see progress filled her heart.
Once the doctor comes to a stop and sets her down she smiles up to him, her brown eyes sparkling with the same excitement as his. She had completely forgotten about her flushed cheeks. “Hen, that’s– That’s amazing! That would open so many opportunities. I can only imagine, many people would appreciate this.”
“This is a cause for celebration! I already ordered sushi, I hope you do not mind.”
He takes your arm gently in hand and leads you over to the couch to wait for the food. In the meantime, he explains what he’s discovered, which consists of a lot of technical terms, flailing hands, bright grins, and shining eyes.
“I guess you are in luck because I love sushi.”
She giggles. A soft gasp is heard when Henrik takes her arm, letting him guide her to the couch and sit face to face. She had the brightest smile on her face as she listened the other ramble about his discovery.
It was a sight, really, not many people had the honor to see this side of him. Everyone was so used to the seriousness and coldness he carried on his voice when he was at work. Then again, it did take her a while for Henrik to finally show this side to her. She just sat there, chuckling and listening attentively at his words. There was no better way to spend the night than this.
