Darkness on the Edge of Town, Pierre Putman
Thorncrown Chapel, Eureka Springs, Arkansas ~ Considered one of the finest examples of organic architecture, a philosophy credited to Frank Lloyd Wright that promotes a harmony between the natural world and human habitation. The non-denominational chapel was designed in 1980 by an apprentice of Wright’s, Arkansas architect E. Fay Jones. This unique & truly beautiful building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

A Bridge House Over a Pond
Newberg Residence by Cutler Anderson Architect is single-family 1,440 square foot residence and 550 sf guest house designed to broaden the owners’ already strong emotional connection to the living world. The site was an overgrown, man-made pond in an area of the owners’ farm that was not conducive to cultivation.
The design attempts to make the pond and residence a single entity in which the owners can enjoy and connect with the wild creatures that come to the water on both regular and varied schedules. To this end, the building was placed as a bridge across the north end of the pond. The pond itself was enlarged and loosely ordered to integrate with the structure of the residence.

This Village Without Roads Is Straight Out Of A Fairytale Book
The village Giethoorn known as the “Venice of the Netherlands” was founded in 1230 and resembles some of the most beautiful fairytale passages. The stunning oddity contains no roads or modern transportation. With the help of canals and 176 bridges, people are able to navigate through its wonders.

What I have just realised distinguishes Dutch canals from British ones is two things. Firstly, Dutch canals are lined with wood, and British ones with stone. Secondly, British canals are clearly purposeful: These Are For Transporting Goods, Behold Our Locks And Engineering Prowess, and they have a towpath beside them for horses.
Dutch canals, by contrast, are just a desperate attempt to put the water somewhere tidy so it doesn’t flood everything. The canal next to my flat in the UK runs all the way from Leeds to Liverpool for Victorian Industry Purposes; the canal next to my house in Holland was too shallow to navigate, and formed part of a web of waterways basically only useful for throwing old bikes in and playing on the ice in winter.
I kind of miss them.

A little Monday motivation from your public lands – snow dusts falls over the Eastern Sierra. BLMer Bob Wick took these photos of Bodie Hills Wilderness and Conway Summit in BLM California several years ago. Some of our favorite photos of the area! #SeeBLM
