Selfi...

People have different perceptions about why is the concept of selfi so viral. We have discussed most of it in class. Now I would like to talk a little about my own perception. Jumping right into the point. I believe people are more comfortable when they pose to themselves. I experience this all the time. When my picture is taken by someone else, I am constantly worrid about how my picture is going to turn up. I feel so weird, to bring out a natural smile looking at a grumpy camera person, staring right into the lense which makes no sense. Why would I feel so happy looking at the camera? But when I look at an image of myself I am more confident about how I am going to look in the picture. when the result which is right in front of me is pleasing, it brings a natural smile. Moreover I am at least looking at a human reflection and smiling, rather than faking a natural smile in front of a lense. I feel free to pose. I am not conscious. I'm not being judged. I have complete control over the final result. And yes ofcose I needn't bribe my friend to take pictures of me. So y hesitate, let's take a selfi.

The inverted institution's With all due respect for my own intitution I would like to just express my own views, about the prevailing educational institution's and their system of education. What is the image ? The picture which I clicked has a wine glass in the fore ground and the humanities block in the background. It was taken from the terrece. The wine glass was filled with water as so it reflects an inverted image of the humanity block. Thus you can clearly see, tr is an inverted image of the humanity's block being reflected from the wine glass filled with water, and the humanities block being slightly out of focus in the background. Why did I capture such an image ? well, it is more of my personal school experience which I wanted to express in my picture. 16 years of solid learning and writing exams has tough me nothing, nothing about life. Nothing about survival. Even though now I am an expert in finding X, having an adequate knowledge about our history and i am well aware of all the tirukurals written by the great poetist Tiruvalluvar. I learnt nothing which will get me through my life's tiermoils. I agree that the present education system does help me to find a job in the future, but if a person developes his knowledge based on only what is taught in these institutions, then the hope of having a future will be a questionable sentence. Thus I conclude by stating that the school education must be altered to suit the primary needs of life and survival.

This picture makes me wonder how does the dog realise that its time for bed or its time to wake up ? does he have an inbuilt biological clock in him which guides him to do things the right time ? At 6 pm he knows exactly that an outside walk awaits him. He gets excited and runs around me until i pick up the leash. At 8 pm he knows that its time to eat and by morning 7 he wakes up with the same excitement which never fades as though that is the day he is going to be crowned the king of the world. Did mankind come up with the concept of time or did it already exist ? was there a time for everything apart from dawn and dusk? were we programed to go about living our lives a certain way ?. When i imagine a living so perfect in schedule and programed it reminds me of a robot. Looking at how people fall prey for sily tempetations and an unstable rule there will be no suprise if we get cought under a dictatorship rule. Ceaser millan quotes " humans are the only breed which follows an unstable leader" we make wrong choices, we fail to follow our instincts, we work for pleasure and not peace. In the whole evaluation process humans are the only breed which has shown high level changes. The birds, animals and insects remain the way they were created. Humans in the name of developement have found a way to achieve power by supression. At times i wonder may be all this is because we are constantly trying to do things diffrently and proudly deny to follow the laws of nature. In the path to show our uniquness we discriminate others from ourselves, killing the concept of unity. May be we should just get back to being an ape rather than getting wiser to destroy oneother.

Alternative media

Alternative media is a platform which avails complete freedom for people to post their views and comments. It is a smaller source then mainstream media. Alternative media came into limelight mainly because the mainstream media has been losing its reputation among its audience. People have lost hope on getting the facts right from the mainstream media.

People nowadays argue that the alternative media is also in the process of being manipulated like the mainstream media and is not 100 reliable any more. The contents of the alternative media in the present days are re channeled from the mainstream media.The commentary on an alternative media platform speaks the truth compared to the reports made by them. Thus the alternative media now a days are going through the same issued as the main stream media. People state that the commentary edits from the mainstream media are presented as reports in the alternative media.

The alternative media, the mainstream media and the old media exists in an ecosystem where they are dependent on each other. Only few alternative media websites have the funding to reach out to the sources and investigate the truth. The other small alternative media which lacks funding do not stand up to such a quality of investigation and thus their informations are not so reliable.

Anonymity

Anonymity is the ability to be anonymous online without being watched for out whereabouts on the world wide web. A person can be virtually tracked online using the wifi signals. The big organisations now a days use this technique to market their products. The search history of a person is sold to huge companies based on their interests taken from the search histories. The huge organisations then target them to sell their products by flooding them with advertisements related to their search histories.

Such a pattern can be both a blessing as well as a curse. This can be helpful to tack criminals. On the other hand this can also be used to target innocent people which cuts down their freedom. People believe that by being watched they lose their freedom to exist.

Websites which practice the concept of anonymity do not retain any memory for details and so the contents posted in it are completely raw and unfiltered. This can be a serious issue of online bullying where people are free to expose their evil side of existence.

There is this website called the 4chan which was started by a teenager which followed the concept of anonymity. It is now followed by 2 million users who are allowed to post and share everything as per their intentions. The website was well known for tracking the case of the anonymous cat abuser. A masked person had posted a link of abusing his cat on 4chan and within 24 hours the onlines techies found ways to track him down and like the background of the video to his social network profile pictures. The guy was then spotted and was arrested within 48 hours. Anonymity when used with good intentions can be a great boon but at the same time this can also be used to destroy lives of innocent people .

The best website which promotes anonymity was TOR, it provided the freedom for people to browse the internet without being watched. Wikileaks is protected by this website called TOR to keep its users anonimous.

WIKILEAKS

Wikileaks an internet platform was started by an Australian activist Julian Assange, who is knows as the worlds most notorious transparency activist . It is a journalistic platform which has brought the activist all around the world to reveal and inform the world about any wrong doing. It has released more classified documents than the rest of the worlds media combine. The rest of the worlds media is doing such a bad job that a small group of activists have proved the whole world media as governments puppet.

Wikileaks has described itself as ‘ not-for-profit-media-organisation” which was launched in 2006. It describes itself as “ wikileaks will accept restricted or censored material of political, ethical,diplomatic or historical significance. We do not accept rumor,opinion or other kinds of first hand accounts or material that is publicly available elsewhere”

The documents released in wikileaks has been breaking grounds because the documents issued by it are matters that the governments and other organisations wanted to keep it as a secret. during the mid- year 2010 wikileaks made a mind blowing report on the U.S millatry incident reports about the war n Afganistan . Few top secrets were brought out to the public and so the website wikileaks was seen as a national threat. It also published the names of unauthorized Afghanistan citizens who were secretly working with the U.S government.

Such a website which is transparent and informative is completely necessary in my opinion as the media has refused to do its job as watchdog. This level of transparency will be as a check for people and ruling powers from doing unjust people and getting away with it

ARTICLE NO 6

Dhinamalar!

Im pretty much excited to writing about this paper. This is the one paper iv seen every day since the day i recognised myself experiencing the worldly things around me. Being brought up in a Tamilian family where everyone reads newspaper from my grandmother to my servant maid im lost in tracking the story about where i became an exception.

Dhinamalar is a Tamil newspaper very similar to other newspapers in terms of quality. The layout and the way a story is portrayed is completely different. I think they use a larger font size compared to other english news paper to make the tamil words more evident. The titles are usually very dramatic and grasping.

I read this article about a dead boy found alive. The title was “The dead boy found alive” which is definitely gtg a lot of attention with that punch in the title. The writing style is a bit “adiradi” that is dramatic in every sentence. Comparatively short articles , especially articles which will interest the readers in my town. I think the paper gives more importance to proximity than international news. My grandma prefers Dhinamalar over any other tamil news paper, as she believes that the contents will be true and it is very informative. And also because it is a very old news paper .

The Indian express !

I read this article about the last date of income tax returns being postponed to august 5th, I felt that the language was good and for the fact that i understood the contents completely even though it was a subject i was c t familiar with The layout was quite simple and the way the article was written seemed up to the point i.e there were no unwanted details or explanations given. It was completely focused on the topic and did not seem to deviate from it. There were a lot of texts when compared to pictures and other multimedia contents. The newspaper seemed to be using low quality ink . I expected Indian Express to be like The Hindu, which turned out to be quite a disappointment .

ARTICLE NO 4 :

Bangalore Mirror !

I am quite familiar to this paper as we had done assignments before based on it. I am very well aware that the half sized newspaper strives to grab the audience attention above anything . I personally find it handy and good to carry around because its not so bulky and it is in a tabloid size. The layout is a little crappy and the quality of the paper is not so good.There is more infotainment contents rather than actual news . May be that is their strategy increase their readers. The language used in the paper is simple and i did not have the need to check my dictionary so often. The article i read was about a young girl who was raped and hanged on a tree in West Bengal “Girl hanged from tree in Bengal, mob kills a suspect” . I would any day prefer Bangalore mirror against Hindustan times. The content was clear and i did not feel they were trying to induce any unwanted exaggeration in the article

No 3 !

The Hindustan times ! I should probably confess right now before i go ahead with my write up that i did not like this paper. I can only think about all the hindrances i found in my reading experience. I read an article about Sania Mirza titled “Sania breaks down, asks why she has to 'assert Indianans”. I chose this article not because of the exaggerated title which says Sania Mirza breaks down. The minute i read this title i had a picture of something very drastic had happened to her and as though she was brought to her knees. As i went on reading the content i was bored, such a big dramatic title was completely unnecessary for a simple content. The article was about Sania’s reply to Mr.Laxman for addressing her as a Pakistanis daughter-in-law The layout looked crappy and congested, felt like there was a lot of things going on and there a lot of distractions. Definitely not for a person who is looking for a genuine peaceful read . There is always something in every article to grab the reader’s eye so its looks like a crowded circus , where every performer is trying to get attention.

News paper No 2 !

The Hindu !

The Hindu is the one lucky paper which gets to jump into my apartments compound, and rest in peace until my mom gets back from work. Usually at home morning hours are very busy, and we hardly find time to even pick up the paper, climb 2 floors and place it on the table. Surprisingly the paper was never found lost and it will always be there near the gate. I have made several attempts to read an article and develop my habit of reading a newspaper but i have failed miserably. Newspapers always put me to sleep. I find it more convenient to get my information from the web. There was this one time i had to read an article and write about it for my assignments and so i chose this article titled “ Black panther less rare than thought”. I found it really interesting because it spoke about how rare the black panthers were and how surprising it is to find them at the same spot where the earlier explorers have recorded their presence . The font, spacing and layout made my reading a bit easier compared to other newspapers is what i feel. The article didn't seem to have gone through a fight for publishing space, and looked like everything was casually spaced, when compared to the other newspapers like Hindustan times were i feel there is a lot going on and i just don't feel like i can read it. Cramped newspapers give a specific tension which makes the readers repel from it. So considering all that i seemed to have enjoyed reading my article from the newspaper The Hindu .

regarding this recent controversy related to the conflict in the eastern Ukraine and the crash of the Malaysian airlines jet while flying in the conflict zone. Much has been said in all the news papers, but much remains unanswered, why was the aircraft cleared to fly over the restricted airspace? was it the conspiracy of the Ukraine officials to draw attention hoping that something like this will happen? is it another incidence of negligence on part of the Malaysian Airlines flying it’s aircraft through that route?

almost all of the news media report that the jet was shot down by the rebels, in absence of hard evidence. but there are fail safe systems in any type of weaponry,IFF, something that let’s you know who and what you are shooting at. It’s really hard to believe that rebels would do something that stupid, knowing well enough the kind of fire they would draw unto themselves. In every conspiracy theory it’s better to start asking two questions, what is the motive behind any type of action and who stands to benefit from the outcome of that action.

Having said that, with critical analysis it is possible to come to certain logical conclusions.

Media should be reporting the facts associated with any event. and not print hearsay, and not pass judgement without solid evidence.

The Ukranians knew that there was a jet there, they have similar missiles, why could they have not fired it themselves and then blamed the rebels for the incident? as the reports go there were other high priority targets at that time near that place including our own Prime Minister. Was this a misfire, who was the real target? Is it an event that is completely orchestrated by some organization to serve their own ends?

online news vs newspapers !

We all know that newspapers companies are the first to keep us updated with the news every day. But as time goes by there are technologies that were invented as another source of news information that is the internet. But if you notice that even if the internet has already been invented, there are still newspaper companies that still go on with their business. One reason is that, there are advantages and disadvantages with online news vs. newspapers.

Let’s first talk about newspapers since they were the first who provided up with news updates. The advantages of subscribing from newspapers companies or buying newspapers is first, you can file it and you can touch it and can read it anywhere you go. Newspapers can be delivered even on the remote areas where internet can’t reach. Second is convenience since you can carry it anywhere you want to read them, in your room, garden, patio while drinking your morning coffee, or in the comfort of your bed. Third, it’s you can recycle newspapers, you can use it to wrap something, cover something, burning materials, or you can make a bag out of it. Lastly, you don’t need to use and pay electricity just to get an updated news. The disadvantages are; you need to pay for your subscription. Then it could cause clattering in your home.

On the other hand is the online news. The advantages of online news are its accessible 24/7. You can read online news any time of the day. The second thing is it’s free. You can freely read online news unlike newspapers that you need to pay or spend money to buy them. Then you don’t need to worry with the clattering in your home since you don’t have anything to pile like newspapers. The disadvantage of reading online news is it’s more expensive since you will be suing electricity just to read updated news. Then second is the internet connection, you also need to pay for that. Without internet connection you will have any access to any networking sites.

Now you know the difference of online news vs. newspapers. But either ways it’s still a reliable source for news information. it’s up to you which of these you think is more convenient for you as long as you get the news that you want to know, as long as your money is worth the service that you want.

Kamal hassan born on nov 7th 1954 has proven himself in all his works that he can be the best in what ever that comes his way , He has inspired me from my very first move 'Avvai shanmugi ' till his last creation 'VISHWAROOPAM'

Kamal not only stands as a carrier idol but can also play a genuine role of being my motivation and guide. The determination and the dedication he shows towards his carrier is mind blowing. He started his acting carrier when he was 4 years old and ever since he has been a shining star.

His character is stern and flexible, he is an broad minded person who can be extremely innovative. i often wonder what can be his secret in life and i am getting close to figuring out that it must be the focus he has on his passion. I admire him as a person more than an actor because i truly believe that it s the seed which gives birth to the gigantic tree and so it is his mind and his views in life which made him a great success.

His movies when analysed and compared will stand out from the rest prominently. He strives to make movies that are unique and different. He was born to a mother who had revolutionary thoughts who was known for her bravery, she was against the idea of women being dominated by men and had futuristic views in her life.

I find him so close to my heart because he is a person who does not believe in God or in others words, he is a self believer, he follows his instincts and fights for it. He does not believe in marriage and compulsive attachments in life . His life when read will be filled only with one word " cinemas" his eternal passion .

My Favourite theatre

My favourite theatre in Bangalore is definitely going to be Imax, iv heard a lot about it but i did not get the opportunity to visit and experience it. I am waiting for a chance were i have enough pocket money and the right movie to go enjoy the theatre.

As of now i would say that i am lost in making up my mind to find my favourite theatre. The one which tops the list is the pornima theatre, this has topped the list for me just because i have been there a lot of times due to their affordable rates.

BANGLORE FILM FESTIVAL

NEWSPAPER REVIEWS VS VIEWERS COMMENTS

The Bangalore international film festival on December was held on 26th 2013, This a week long celebration for movie enthusiasts who get to watch films directed by passionate makers thought the world. Kamal Haasan and CM Siddaramaiah to inaugurate Bangalore Film festival . This was the 6th film festival held in Bangalore and over 160 movies from 52 countries were screened in various theatres in Bangalore, The newspapers reported that the response was overwhelming and there were instances were people fought for their tickets.

The presence of famous directors and documentary makers lifted the spirits high among the crowd, they were allotted time to share their experiences and answers quires. The audience were given opportunity to enjoy 4 to 5 films a day.

A distant relative of mine Mr Mithun had the time and the opportunity to take part in the festival, he told me that he had an enjoyable experience being drown in the world of cinemas. He spoke a lot about the Kannada movie Jatta directed by B M Giriraj which had the most response from the crowd. It seems that he had missed it the first time it was screened, but since the response was overwhelming the viewers had requested the organisers to screen it once again . The only negative comment about the festival given by him was about the accommodation of seats and few bad movie choices, but once again the likes and dislikes varies person to person, so I am not sure whether i can allow myself to jump into a constructed conclusion.
