the odyssey (2026)
If your wife finds your sea people theory boring it is probably spurious and unsupported in the literature…
*taking out the trash at night* what if there was a monster. lol *walking faster*
anon I want you to know that I am always thinking about this
im so hungry i could eat a amazing food and refreshing drink
they should invent a yourself you can forgive
all that and i havent killed myself yet i must really love this stupid fucking life
the universe will give me what i want and more in time
I will say the movie was enough to make me want to reread the odyssey again just so that i can get my real lying bastard back
I feel like nolan wanted to make an Aeneid adaptation (a stereotypically good man in a narrative about how war is bad) but either a: didn't know what the Aeneid is or b: didnt think it would get as much traction as a movie titled "the odyssey"
like i get the angle nolan is trying to do for the odyssey (2026)-war is bad, don’t do war, just live a peaceful life with your wife blah blah blah-but it’s just the most boring interpretation you can have of the odyssey in my opinion.
the odyssey was not a moral punishment on odysseus for war crimes, it’s a punishment by the gods for him being a prick. i find the story of a guy who by all accounts should be beat down by the gods constantly get out of it and try to get around them. and of course finally capitulating and being rewarded, but before that being a really badass cunning guy.
the odyssey (2026) strips away everything to tell a pretty standard war story where we have a very honorable stand up guy who regrets his war crimes and is being punished for them.
also the gods are just weirdly depicted in a very christian way where they really care about mortals when in greek mythology they’re way more careless and unconcerned unless they’re bothered specifically-like the entire trojan war was started by the gods???
the alternative ending nolan crafted for his 2026 adaptation of "the odyssey" genuinely summarises everything wrong with this movie's characterisation of odysseus.
because no, not in a million years, would odysseus "i yell my name and home address to the beast i blinded out of pride so he knows who tf i am." of ithaca, mr. "killed 108 men cock out" and "the reason for the fall of troy" just decide that finally, after he got home to his throne 20 years later to go "you know what man i am lowkey tired as hell from this i am old and weak and fragile let my chud son be king"
he simply would not do that he is soo prideful and selfish to do that.
and that’s the problem, the movie tries its best to not show odysseus as immoral or selfish or prideful, for some reason. it’s too scared to show you the real king of ithaca, and at that point, why make an adaptation at all?
it turned one of the most interesting and complex greek heroes, who is characterised with traits usually associated with villains and cowards in ancient myths, into just some guy.
Nolans Odysseus was also way less of a dick than Homer's which is a major L in my humble opinion
let’s all quit our jobs and just go on walks
Okay nolans odyssey definitely had worse flaws but what thing that was grating on my ears was tom holland saying "mom" and "dad". Could we please get mother and father, if not mater and pater which would actually be the best option
How the new Odyssey movie sounds to me based off of what I’ve seen on tumblr
take me to Scot land 🏴😩 and kiss me 💋 on top of the locked nest monster 💘💕😍🦕
