"As much as I love him, I think it’d be nice for us to have a day off." That, and he was sure the boy would be delighted to spend time with family. George smiled at himself at the thought. "I’m looking forward to it, honestly."
"We'll go out for a nice dinner, maybe have a few drinks." Elliot grinned as he elevated his head from the pillow to place a kiss against George's lips, "What would you like a bottle of?"
"You’re welcome to stay awake. But you should get to bed earlier tonight. It won’t do you any good tomorrow if you’re still exhausted because of today." Maybe he worried too much, but really, he was always concerned with the other man’s well-being.
"Yeah, well, I've got a surprise for you. I'm off tomorrow." Elliot grinned as he reached out, running his fingers through George's hair, "I look forward to spending it with you. Sam and Dmitri have asked to take Ethan for the day, which means we're going to have the house to ourselves."
Smiling, he moved closer, eventually seating himself next to Elliot. “Really?” He feigned intrigue, brows arching momentarily before he leaned in to close the distance. “You should rest. You look exhausted.”
"Really." Elliot leaned in to place a kiss against George's lips, his eyes slowly drifting to a close as he lifted a hand to run fingers through his hair, "What if I'd rather stay awake with you?"
"One of them is playing with a puzzle while the other is deciding what to have for dinner," he called out, soon emerging from the kitchen and leaning his side against the doorway. "How was your day?"
"I feel like I went ten rounds with a brick wall, but I can think of something that'll make me feel better." Elliot reached out, seeking George's hand, "Been thinking about a kiss from you all day long."
Elliot practically looked battle worn as he made his way through the door of the home he shared with George, collapsing on the couch before he grudgingly rolled over onto his back, "Where are my boys?"
"We’ll keep that in mind," he replied, hand reaching up to ruffle the boy’s hair once more. He, too, was sure Ethan would be satisfied either way. That aside, George realized he’d feel more comfortable with a large dog to keep watch. Considering their field of work, they were both quite familiar with how things could go wrong. Turning his head to look over to the other, his smile was fond. "I didn’t think I’d have my own family anytime soon."
"I think we have an amazing family." Ethan perked as if what his new parents were talking about captured his attention. He lifted a little finger, pointing first at Elliot, "Daddy." He then pointed at George, "Daddy." The boy giggled as he once again settled is cheek against George's shoulder.
Leaning in, he took the piece of popcorn, smiling and turning his attention to the television once he commented on the dog. “Do you want a dog like that?” Now that they’d started speaking about it, he was looking forward to getting a dog of their own.
"Dat one." Ethan smiled broadly as he lifted his gaze to George, and Elliot quietly admired their interaction as he slowly ran his fingers through George's hair, "We can find one that's like that one." Though, ultimately, Elliot was sure that Ethan would enjoy any dog they adopted.
"I think we could, too." He smiled, eventually tilting his head to rest it against the other’s shoulder. Things were great for them, as of late, and he couldn’t have been happier. George wasn’t quite paying attention to the television, moving to set a hand down against Elliot’s leg, the other hand trailing through Ethan’s hair.
A hand lowered, resting atop George's own before he laced their fingers. He offered another piece of popcorn to Ethan, who accepted it gladly, before he lifted one to George's lips to allow him a piece as well, "Big, big goggy." Ethan giggled excitedly at the TV as a large talking dog appeared on the screen.
A dog of their own would do Ethan well. After what he’d gone through, the boy was surprisingly stable, and really, he was glad. Of course, he had the occasional nightmare every now and then, would often call for his cousin when that was the case, but he seemed to be improving day by day. George smiled to himself at the thought. “Maybe we should have movie nights more often.”
"I think that would be a good idea. What do you think, Ethan?" The boy nodded his head emphatically, his gaze remaining focused on the movie. Clearly, he was interested in what was playing. Elliot soon leaned over, placing a kiss against George's temple, "This is nice. I think we could both use a little more of this."
"I guess he decided what size dog he wants," George spoke up, chuckling quietly at the sight of the familiar dog. He was looking forward to the get together that would be coming. Really, he’d wanted a family of his own for a long time. He just didn’t expect to have one any time soon. "We could start checking out pet stores."
"I think that's a good idea." Elliot reached out to brush some of the hair from Ethan's face as he held George securely against his side with the arm around his shoulder. Finally, he reached for the bowl of popcorn, taking a handful and eating a piece before the very instant Ethan's little hand snaked out to take a piece from his palm.
Lifting a hand, he ruffled the boy’s hair with a smile on his lips. “We really should. I think he’s wanted a dog for a while,” George replied, smiling and absently watching as the movie began on the television before he reached over to take some popcorn. “We should start looking into it.”
"My goggy big goggy." Ethan's thumb dislodged from his mouth only long enough to speak the simple sentence before it returned and he refocused his attention on the TV, smiling over his thumb as the first of the dogs appeared on the screen, "Mitri goggy." Of course, the first one that showed up seemed to look like Bear.
"Dinner sounds nice." He smiled, leaning back in his seat once more. Well, he’d never expected any of this to come—he would be lying if he said he wasn’t interested beforehand, but he doubted he would have ever shown interest first. Maybe some good came out of what happened, after all. "When do you want to go out?"
"How about after work tonight? We can celebrate the fact that you're healing up." He allowed himself another drink of his coffee, eagerly drinking down the sweet caffeine that would, hopefully, keep him alert for the rest of the day and focused on the matter at hand--not George's lips against his own.
When the boy settled onto his lap, he reached up, ruffling his hair and turning his gaze to the television. Ethan had a fascination with dogs—and really, he’d considered getting a puppy of their own. But he wasn’t too sure of that just yet. “Your son is excited,” he replied, a chuckle leaving him. “Maybe we should get a dog of our own.”
It would be a lie to say that the idea hadn't occurred to him before. Of course he wanted their son to have a dog, "Wouldn't be such a bad idea. An extra pair of eyes watching the house." Ethan squealed in excitement at the mention of a dog, screetching a couple of excited yeses as he pressed his head against George's chest, his thumb immediately gravitating toward his mouth.
He smiled, picking up his cup for another drink. “Then we’ll see where this goes.” Who knew how it would turn out? Perhaps he was a bit of an optimist, but he had a good feeling about it—likely because he was able to read the other man well enough to know when something was wrong, even if he never vocalized it.
"In that case, let me take you out on a real date. Dinner?" He didn't know why the suggestion made him nervous. It was clear from the events to now that George was interested in him in the way he was interested in the other man, but it still made him wonder if he was pushing for too much too soon.
Elliot groaned as he seated himself on the couch beside George reaching out to wrap an arm around his shoulders. Any minute now, the movie they'd put on for their new son would be starting, and freshly made popcorn resting on the coffee table for the event. He wasn't there for long before Ethan lept onto George's lap wearing one of Elliot's shirts, and he couldn't contain his laughter, "Goggies!" The child sounded so excited. Of course, the movie had to be about dogs. He suspected Will had something to do with that.
Falling silent for a time, he set down his cup of coffee after another drink of the contents. “What would you like to do about it?” Certainly, he’d like it if it developed—but he could understand if it was purely out of the heat of the moment. Leaning over, he folded his arms over his desk. “If you’re worried about my viewpoint, I’d like to see where it could take us.”
The question was answered before he ever had a chance to ask it. Honestly, he didn't know what he would have done without George's ability to read him so well, "I'd like that too." He took another drink of his coffee, his head bowing briefly before he matched his gaze against the other man's own.
"It saves me the trouble." He, too, leaned back in his seat, but not before taking the cup of coffee, bringing it up to his lips for a drink. "It’s better. I don’t experience much discomfort anymore," he responded. Of course,he still preferred not to move his shoulder if he had the chance. "I had the option to stay home for a few days, but I feel a lot better working."
"I saw that coming." Elliot smiled, casting his gaze across the desk so that he might match it against George's own, "I keep wondering if we should talk about what happened during the kidnapping--and what happened after." Honestly, he was concerned about the direction of their relationship after George was free from his hospital bed. Whether it would continue to develop or if it would cease.
