He was an advocate for AIDs/HIV patients from the start of the outbreak in the 70s. He contracted the virus in 1986 and died 2 years later

His name doesn’t appear on his tombstone because he wanted it to be a memorial for all gay veterans

The same happened in Turkey. The president had a livestream on YouTube and was supposed to chat with teenagers but instead everyone kept writing #novotesforyou on the chat. (You can basically say our president is like Trump , but the difference is that people are so much more ignorant than US and the government can basically do anything without people rioting. Journalists and all people working for the government are living in fear of jail so even people with a high level of education don't speak up) After, the government threatened us with closing the Internet and netflix (saying it's bad for our culture , meaning the lgbt+ chracters ofc) they didn't do it for now but that doesn't mean what they did was true. It was straight up a human rights threaten. They already have television to manipulate older people and adults (every channel is somehow controlled by the government or owned by people with a strong backing up via powerful people) but they are afraid of gen z , making fun of them online even tho they are not majors who can vote yet. It's basically tragicomedy for us gen z.
