Neon sign at Desert Rose Motel, 3774 Las Vegas Blvd S – 1979

Among the first motels south of Flamingo, Desert Rose was built in '53 by M. D. Close on a 2.5-acre parcel, with an original 27 units, later expanded to 56.

The Klein family bought the motel in '61 and owned it through Jan. '95 when it was sold to Gold Strike Resorts, partners in the Monte Carlo resort. The motel was used as an office during Monte Carlo construction, and demolished in '96. The motel was replaced with what is now Park Ave.

The neon sign was created sometime in the 50s, expanding on an earlier version. The sign was donated to the Neon Museum.
