260711 G-DRAGON’s speech at the UNESCO World Heritage Committee Opening Ceremony
“hello i am G-DRAGON, a singer from south korea.
first of all, i would like to sincerely express my deepest gratitude to UNESCO, which has protected humanity’s precious heritage for many years and to everyone joining us here today.
Busan is a remarkable city that has transformed its painful history of war into a foundation of peace and hope. it is also home to the only United Nations Memorial Cemetery in the world. here, where those from around the world who came together for peace now rest, we make a new commitment to protect our shared world heritage.
protecting heritage is not simply about preserving the past, it is about creating peace for the future. i believe that art can also play an important role in protecting the world heritage of the future. art has the power to move people’s hearts and when those small moments come together, they can create meaningful change in the world.
as we work together to protect and preserve world heritage at risk from war and the climate crisis, i hope to contribute in my own small way.
as an artist from south korea, i sincerely hope that the small step we take here in Busan will grow into a greater movement for peace that connects people around the world.
thank you.”
