Perhaps this is a silly thought, but its 2am, but its very crazy to think that there was a period in time where both the A-6 and USS Enterprise were brand-new, unproven concepts for the Navy, and now what they pioneered is just common-place. Every US carrier is nuclear powered, and every attack-aircraft they operate possesses the ability to strike in all-wx, 24/7, but in 1961 these would have been both ground breaking and unproven capabilities.... It is very fortunate that we had both the Intruder & Enterprise to pioneer these concepts. Who knows what naval aviation would look like without either. And Both would see Combat very soon in the South China Sea.
