We need to talk more about Clarisse and Travis as head counselors.
We don’t give them enough credit.
Travis is the head counselor of one of the biggest (if not the biggest) cabins. He, not only has to keep in place the Hermes kids, but the unclaimed also. Imagine the chaos of 20-30 children from ages 4 to 17 crowded in that cabin. The Hermes kids are hyperactive, always having a plan to prank someone, like to steal stuff and constantly getting in trouble. The unclaimed don’t really know their powers but imagine Lou Ellen accidentally doing some magic thing and turning her blanket into feathers or a daughter of Aphrodite who happens to have charmspeak but doesn’t realise.
After Luke, he also had to repair the damage he made. Not only people most likely branded the Hermes Cabin as traitors but the children of the respective cabin lost their brother. Someone who was supposed to protect them and care for them. Travis had to fix all of their hearts. He had to maintain discipline, be their friend and be a role model but also to be himself.
Imagine the Hermes Cabin looking at each other trying to figure out if the others are spies.
The Cabin was still described as cheerful and full of laughter and happiness. Imagine how much work Travis had to go through to reach that outcome. He became the best big brother and no one can change my mind.
Also, Travis never got any idea what he was supposed to do. Over night he became responsible of over 20 little lives.
Sure, he had Connor to help out but i don’t think he asked his little brother to do much. Travis wouldn’t have wanted Connor to worry about anything.
Travis deserves the world. And it’s sad that he never got any attention from Hermes, yet he still was on the side of the gods.
You can’t tell me that the unclaimed children weren’t coming to him to talk about who their godly parent might be , and Travis’s heart would break when one of the children would slowly lose hope of ever being seen or claimed by their so called parent. Kids crying at night because of the nightmares and broken dreams.
Many unclaimed joined the other side and Travis must’ve felt as if he failed because he couldn’t give them the home they needed and wanted. The guilt must’ve eaten him alive, and especially when Chris (before he was claimed by Hermes) started being distant and then betrayed camp. Chris is only a little younger than Travis so they must’ve been close.
The trauma he must have it’s underrated
-i will write pt.2 about Clarisse as headcounselor tomorrow
