A close friend of mine is being held against his will in Thailand. Imagine being not only alone, but transgender in another country possibly facing prison time or worse. Any donations help. Tempo: HELLO! As clarification: 1. No money from this GoFundMe will be used to pay any sort of 'ransom.' This money will be used for, and only for, getting Shawn appropriate legal representation to fight for him in a professional capacity we, as his friends and family, are not capable of, and, if funds allow, getting him home safely as soon as we can get him released. 2. This is not fake or a scam. No matter the details of the situation, Shawn is ALONE in a FOREIGN COUNTRY without proper legal representation, without steady contact with his family or support system. We don't have a lot of answers, but we DO know that Shawn's safety and well-being is a very serious concern. The original reference to the Thai mafia in the title of this GoFundMe was meant to communicate that we are quite confident this is gang-related activity. At this point, we really don't know, but anyone who knows Shawn knows he is a man of excellent character and a huge heart. Concern for his safety and well-being trumps any questions we don't yet have answers to. 3. We know there is a lot of confusion about us trying to work on this alone and it being a scam, or that things don't add up - and we absolutely agree. Things aren't adding up, and that just makes it even scarier. This taking place in a foreign country means a lot of things we think should work a certain way, don't. But WE HAVE and ARE currently in contact will all the appropriate legal authorities. A file has been opened and this is an ongoing investigation. 4.
