Daily Blog 11-29-17

Woohoo only missed one day! Well yesterday at a local Chick-fil-a and to be honest I wasn't too excited. They guy really sold me on how much money I would be racking in ever other week. I will say its pretty easy work but ill be clocking in for 54 hours a week. We’ll see how it goes I guess. I will say that I had some funny moments on the first day. For instance the guy who was training me thought I was gay for the first hour cause of how tailored my clothes were and how long my hair is. Later on I found out that most of the women in the kitchen couldn’t tell if I was a guy or a girl for those same reasons!

After being given so many complements on how feminine I looked this random customer walked up to me and asked how much I worked out, I'm a pretty fit looking dude but I haven't seriously worked out in years. I told him that but he didn't fully believe me and wanted to arm wrestle me by the time he left. Not 20 minuets later I had the younger looking gentleman, older then me but far younger then 30s, came up to me to ask me about my future. I gave him some vague what-not answers but then he followed up with “Well what about the Marines”? I was kind of shocked that he did ask me about that cause I have considered it before but I never pursued it farther then a thought. I told him that I was at one point interested and he gave me his card. He was a recruiter trying to get me to join in the middle of my first shift. Not sure why he thought I would be a good fit but I guess I just gave off a really rugged feminine vibe. That is all that really happened.

Daily Blog 11-27-17

So well see how well this works out. For those of you who don't know who I am, my name is Mitchell Weiss and I am a self proclaimed writer and soon to be videographer and singer. I’m gonna try out daily blogging to try to touch up on my writing skills. To get you caught up I was living in Florida for the last 2 years where I had some of my best times of my life and some of the worst. But at the end the good far overshadowed the bad. I was able to meet some of my closest friends so far. I had to move back to my hometown in Texas with my grandma (bless her soul) because I allowed my finances to go down the toilet. Thats beside the point...but now Im living here trying to get my stuff in order so I can get back with my life. Today I spent half the day Job hunting and I feel really good about a position with Olive Garden. After that I got home and started to train and hang out with my dog Akamaru (Aki for short). My life isn't too exciting at the moment so thats all I have for now. Lets see how much I can keep this going.

Gospel Lee-Brilliant EP Review

Hailing from Oklahoma now residing in Arizona, Gospel Lee is a Christian hip hop artist who is delivering us his 3rd EP titled Brilliant. Off the bat the first thing you might notice about this album is its very genuine hip hop sound. There is nothing too flashy about the production or the chorus, just straight bars coming from each song.

Starting off the album we have the song “Clutch”, Lee’s flow pattern is really choppy on this song going along to the video game theme to the beat. Along with the loud siren in the back ground this intro track gives you a nice ease into this high energy EP. Lee carries this energy into one of the more lyrical tracks on the project with “Spirit Animal (Aslan)”. At the start of the track you can here Lee reciting Power Ranger mechazoid summoning quotes as it’s a funny representation to the theme of the song. In the show the giant robots they fight in are to be used to fight the bigger villains that are too strong for the rangers by themselves. Lee is using Aslan, the fictional character in C.S. Lewis The Chronicles of Narnia, as his strength against sin and the world. He used Aslan as his animal specifically drawn from the Lion Of Juda from Revelation 5:5.

Going into the second half of the album we have something of a spoken word piece with “Far Away”. In this mid tempo song he is describing a certain time in his life of emptiness and how far away God seems to be from him. He comes full circle with this concept with the realization of how close he is to God. This song would have sounded real nice if it was flipped in the track listing with “Spirit Animal (Aslan)” because of the concept of having God as your source of strength. Wrapping up the album we get the title track “Brilliant” featuring beautiful vocals by Moyosulo. This track still keeps that hard banging production that it has had throughout the project, but now with singing on the chorus with Moyosulo. He talks on the subject of being you as your own person and to stop trying to be like your idols or anyone else, and to try to find satisfaction in what God has created you to be. We do get a bonus track “Okies” which is really just an anthem to his hometown of Oklahoma City. It brings a nostalgic feel for anyone from this area where he is describing the people and good places to eat, its just a fun beat that you just can’t nod your head to.

Overall this is a good album with really good production value and lyrical content. Seeing how Lee has progressed through the years with his EPs this is still a great stepping stone to boost his carrier. With the genuine hip hop feel through out the entire project it would be an enjoyable project to play for anyone who loves the genre, and high energy enough to be able to get hype too at a party.

Ki’shon Furlow-Voices EP Review

Ki’shon Furlow is an Abilene Texas native, former battle rapper in the DFW area and newest member to Collision Records. After a big year in 2015 with his Immensely popular Keep An Open Mind mixtape and making it onto Rapzilla’s freshman of 2015 list, fans are receiving his debut EP Voices. As an artist Ki’shon made some big leaps in 2015 and to many new fans, Voices is a good in depth look into Ki’shon life and who he is as an aritist.

Ki’shon brings a unique sound to Collision with his diverse beat selection and how he portrays his life through his music. The opening track “Great Expectations” Ki’shon brings us into his world and lets us know what’s on his mind with the pressures of being a father, husband and now the extra responsibility of being signed to a label. In an open commentary about the song he states that He has always had family and friends who expect many things from him as he is one of the only high school graduates in his family, now one of the only college graduates, and how all that extra pressure has pushed him to who he is now. Staying on this personal dive into his life we go into the song “Fate” featuring label mate Dre Murray. Furlow tells a highly detailed story of his life growing up and all of the bad decisions he made with his cousins. Dre comes into the song on the other half of this 6 minuet song with a fourth verse describing the resolution of prayer and how our decisions don’t determine our final stretch of life. “Tom Cruise” is a song more directed to his closer friends and how even though he is now signed to a real record label he still wont forget about his real friends. “Holy Water” has this laid back “interludy” fell when pared with the songs before and after it with this finger tapping snare performance in the background pacing the song and Ki’shon altering his vocals to this mechanical tone (almost turning his own voice into an instrument).

Ending off the album we have one of the most anticipated songs off the record with Aha Gazelle on the chorus and his own verse. Aha and Ki’shon have a chemistry very similar to Lecrae and Trip Lee where as almost any song they have together its going to pretty much be a fan favorite and a classic in their eyes. That song is called “The Usual” and along side the lead single “Golden” featuring Alex Faith, it is one of the big bangers on the record. The very end of “The Usual” adds a nice full circle to the small story that was being presented about growing up in the environment he did, and to some degree saying he’s not going to become a statistic.

Overall this was a good start to Ki’shon’s career with Collision. He seems to bring a new sound that no other WLAK member has had before and being around this group of guys will start to bring out the best of what Ki’shon has to offer as an artist. I will for sure be anticipating his later work as a solo artist and what he brings to WLAK.

Dream Junkie-Good Religion Album Review

The Dream Junkies are a Cali based hip hop group composed of 3 individual artist Ruslan, Beleaf and John Givez. Good Religion is their second collective album after their highly successful NREM Edition debut album in 2014.

Each artist individually brings something very unique to the table along with powerful solo growth by each artist. Ruslan, the leader of Kings Dream int. coming off his sophomore album Do For One comes into this project with some of the stronger versus on the whole project. On all the subject matters from tour life on the song “Showbiz” and “On the Road” to personal life living in California, Ruslan dives deep into each one with a very clear perspective of each situation. He also has the privilege of rapping with the only other featured rapper on the album Murs on the track “Left Coast”. Both have been stated being friends in recent interviews and it was something really special to hear both of their versus side by side with an intro by Beleaf and a smooth hook sung by both John and Beleaf.

Beleaf is able to bring plenty of personality to the album with all of his appearances on the album. No matter if the song is more of a laid back type of cruising song like “Answer Your Call” or “Left Coast”, or if it’s a get your heart pumping type of song like “I Got The Juice”. He definitely has some of the more ear grabbing versus with how much raw emotion is in most of his lines. “2nd Hand Smoke” is a great song with his brother in law and fellow artist John Givez. John does smoke cigarettes and Beleaf walks us through a bit of the journey he goes through with John and when he does smoke. It is probably one of the more personal songs on the album but it still fits in with seeing a deeper side to all of the artist individually and them still growing as a group.

John Givez brings a highly noticeable sound on every track of the album. No matter if he is rapping or singing John just has one of those very infections tones that draws you into the track. So it’s really no surprise that he his singing the hook to 7 of the 12 tracks on the album. John having the latest individual album to come from Kings Dream with his sophomore “Soul Rebel” there is not a huge leap in personal development from him but he does still bring that John Vibe that all of his fans have come to love. He is considered one of the biggest lyricist in the game right now and he really comes through with his versus on the songs “Boogie Man” and “I Got The Juice”.

All of these guys are stand out individuals but one of the biggest things that make them such a popular group is their chemistry together. Ruslan and Beleaf where in a duo group of their own call theBreaux some years ago. They really mixed like chocolate and peanut butter but when Ruslan started Kings Dream and signed John, the Dream Junkies group we have now is born. Over the years these 3 have had some great stand out tracks as a group. Some “classics” include “Higher”, “Oceans” and their big theme song “Dream Junkies”. They bring this same great formula together again with songs such as “Shoot Me” and the 2 singles on the album “I Got The Juice” and “Take Me Back”.

Over all the new Good Religion album has everything that Dream Junkie fans have come to love and have been waiting for! Great hooks, versus and production all amplified by the over all teamwork by these artist as individuals.

I have a lot of people ask me, "why do you listen to rap?" Or some people just give me this really strange look of confusion when I tell them what my music interests are. I found some people who legitimately love hip-hop and can see where I'm coming from when I tell them why I love it. But I've also had people tell me it's a very disrespectful and almost Satanic genre. At the moment I feel the need to briefly clarify what hip-hop means and what it means to the people who like it. Rap isn't just a hard-hitting genre full of heavy bass , aggressive flows and demeaning lyrics. It is more a way of life and a great way for people to express themselves creatively. In other forms of creation you can express yourself through art, through instruments, or even how you can write a essay. And those are all good and amazing, but in hip-hop you can verbally express emotions, places, feelings, people, pretty much anything in a more detailed way then in any other music genre out there. Yes it has had a lot of negative light shine on it from the very famous rappers who materialize women strive after pride and expect fans to lift them up on a golden pedestal just so they can spit on them later once they finally "made it". But really all the stuff that most people hear is the kiddie pool side of hip-hop compared to the vast ocean of creativity and personality that can come from good positive artist with ingenious lyrics and dope beats. So why do I love rap? I prefer to swim in an ocean then stand in a kiddie pool 🎧😏

John Givez-Soul Rebel Review

John Givez is the newest member of Kings Dream Entertainment but most likely one of the most relevant artists to hip hop of 2015. John came out with his debut project IV Seasons back in 2013 and has since been one of the most featured artists in the CHH genre. Therefore it’s not much of a surprise when people were really expecting something big from him with his new album Soul Rebel. Landing on 3 billboard charts and climbing in to the top ten of iTunes hip hop list, it would be safe to say John has delivered a high quality album. Being a linear story form start to finish, you get to experience the life of John from childhood to his early twenties.

Soul Rebel is the self narrated story of John Givez growing up in Oceanside California, where even though growing up in a stable household with parents who strongly hold up the standards of a Godly marriage, the influence of the culture outside of his home caused him to fall into the ungodly lifestyle of drugs, gangs and lust. Stating off the album, in the first 2 songs “Elementary Trill” and “2004” you get a glimpse into Johns early childhood and the begging of his innocence being corrupted buy the older kids in his neighborhood. They start to show him this idea of what gang life is like, and that it is the better way to go in life. You can really see John take hold of these ideas of a playas lifestyle starting with “Da art of Story Telling pt. 5” where he is walking us through the mental and physical aspects of the first girl he “got” with just to prove his worth to his friends. Getting halfway through the album we get to “Johnny Law (Green Light)” and “AM/PM” where John really puts into detail the area the he is in and how he is reacting to it as the playa he is now. “A Playaz Change of Heart” and “Chapter 29” John is beginning to realize how godless his life is and desperately calls on God to start to change his life. As we get into “Sandman (Song)” we see that even though John is living a more godly life, Satan (Sandman) is still trying to push him in the wrong direction. During the time of change in John’s life he gets acquainted with a woman of his own. At this point in the album we can really see the changes God is making in Johns life. He goes from a fallen mindset of lust and disrespecting women to being committed to 1 girl faithfully. Finally closing out the album John has this drive to help change the people in his community. He realized that he is not the only one affected by the cultural norms of his generation, but he does has hope the people will start to rebel against their own souls and see the gift of life God can give.

As a whole John Givez has given us with out a doubt the most open and fine tuned project of his carrier. Along with a smooth feeling throughout with the production, he has also given us some deep insight to the history of himself and a relatively general idea of what the life of a present gang member is like. There is always hope for anyone to live a full life with Christ, no matter where you come from as long as the rest of your journey you trust in him.

Tedashii-Below Paradise Reveiw

Tedashii “T-Dot” Anderson is an extremely gifted hip hop artist. With 3 previous albums under his belt he is pretty well known in the hip hop community. In March of 2013, Tedashii lost his young baby boy in a car crash. One year later, he tells his heartfelt story in what he calls his “journal” or otherwise known as his new CD, released May 27, “Below Paradise.”

Tedashii spills out his heart in every track on this Album. He talks about his initial pain he experienced once he got the news of his son’s passing in the song, “Dark Days, Darker Nights.” He quoted on twitter, “I wrote ‘Dark Days, Darker Nights’ at night in a thunderstorm. Me, a pic of my son, and my tears in the rain. That song is from a real place.” In the song “Complicated,” he talks of the downward spiral his life started to go on. The news of his son’s passing threw his life into a confusing cycle. Along with the struggles of the loss, he began to experience this internal struggle for what he believes in the song “Angels and Demons.” He realizes that God, his wife, family and friends would always be with him, no matter what, in the song “Love Never Leaves.”

Tedashii is able to still give thanks to his wife for always being there with him through it all in, “Be With You.” He is also still able to give some amazing bangers with deep messages about confidence and faith with “Nothing I Can’t Do” and “My God” (and on the deluxe version “Earthquake” and “On Ten”). He is able wrap up the whole album with a beautiful anthem to. his son in the song “Chase.” He tells of pain he feels without him, what he appreciated about him that he never realized until he was gone ,and what it takes to cling to God in times such as hard as this.

All in all, this is an amazing with great potential to impact the secular world, the hip hop community, and anyone of the Christian faith. Tedashii quotes, “I pray this will be an album all can feel, even if you can’t relate, and be moved to true emotions about the reality of a life in a harsh world with a loving God below paradise.”

If you don’t like rap, you will still be able to listen to this album. If you don’t relate in any wa,y you will see the emotion of this one person and you, too, will be able to feel what he feels.

Derek Minor-Empire Review

Derek Minor (formally known as Pro) has released his first album that is not under the Reach Records label and is full time with RMG (Reflection Music Group). Derek takes the idea of building Gods empire and puts it into a 16 track album that clearly reflects the concept of building Gods empire and also the struggles of trying to build and maintain our own empire. Derek Minor has always been very good at taking an idea for an album and centering all the songs and themes on that single concept. He does still accomplish that same trend with this album with songs like “All Hail the King”, “Empire”, “Last Forever” and “Until the End of Time”. In all these songs he really is trying to show what it is like to built and live in Gods empire. We sometimes as people try to build our own empire that is centered just around us and what makes us happy. Derek takes that idea and shows that you that yea you can make it and make good money or accomplish what ever your goal is, but if it is not in the use for building Gods empire it will end up crashing. Along with the construction of building empires comes open with one song that really deserves to be talked about, “Save Me”. “2014 was the worst year of my life” says Derek in another interview and comes out and talks briefly about most of the problems in this song. He shows the struggles the life can bring with the death of 3 family members, a loss of one of his friends and major financial problems. Even with the thought of ending it all lingering over him he still shows his faith in God will get him through it all. Overall this was an ok album. He did seem to have more filler songs then normal. Not saying the songs were bad they just seemed really out of place on the album. He had a large list of features on the album with a good mix of fellow rappers and vocalist. Ever feature worked very well with the song they were on and complimented the song greatly. For lyrical content this is defiantly his strongest and most diverse work.

Bumps INF-Man v Machine Review

Bumps INF is by far one of the most open artist there is to date. He and his other colleagues has mentioned that Bumps lacks this filter that most people have that says “You probably shouldn’t say that”. But that really doesn't prevent him from being less liked as an artist it really makes him one of the relatable people when it comes to things like depression, suicide and divorce. One of Bumps more relatable songs on the album is “Prisoner” where his talking about the struggles of fighting suicide and depression but still trying to make it day to day. He also touches on the subject of beauty in the song “Beautiful” where his mainly talking to the insecurities that most women have now. If you tell a woman she is beautiful now most of them will just snicker and blow it off like it meant nothing. He sends that reassurance of who we are made by and what image we uphold. Lust and temptation is a struggle that most people have but never mention, Bumps dedicates a whole song the a moment that could have ended badly at a local bar in the song “Desperate Measures” but shows how he was able to listed to God at the moment to get himself out of that situation. When Bumps isn’t opening up to us he is showing his growth as an MC in most of the other songs where his is proclaiming his faith in “Logo” and “Solo Island”. He wraps up the album with a lyrical ear worm “#Barz Outro” where his is giving you 3 minuets of metaphors and similes. Over all this album touches on the negative struggles people go through daily. Bumps is able to bring light to all of them and show the outlet through Jesus Christ. Most people probably wouldn’t be able to relate to the album as a whole but the wide range that Bumps talks about it would be nearly impossible to find at least 1 song that you could relate to.

Lecrae-Anomaly Review.

Grammy Nominated and Award winning Artist Lecrae come in strong with his 7th full length album Anomaly. From early 2005 with the release of his first album Real Talk we have been able to see Lecrae grow as an artist and a person in life. Lecrae has always been very transparent artist and is not afraid to make his emotions public in his songs. In the song “Fear” Lecrae really shows his thoughts that most biblical men think about around the age that he is around. It also at the end of the 3rd verse serves as a reassurance to many of his friends and enemies that his life and his music is still focused all around Jesus. If you’re not a normal Lecrae fan or you have just heard about him you get 2 chances really to hear about where he came from and a brief history of his childhood to teenage years in the songs “Good, Bad, Ugly” and “Wish”. His ability to tell a story has always gotten better and better throughout the years but he really shines in showing almost a different side of him that most people may not know about. Along with always looking at himself in the mirror he is never afraid to show a mirror to the world by performing the songs “Welcome to America” and the hit single “Nuthin”. In “Welcome to America” he points out the lifestyles of 3 different people involved with America. In “Nuthin” he is talking to the mainstream hip hop artist saying that they are only talking about how much they have or what they can get because they have the money. The never talk about how people can build themselves up or how they can turn to know God. “They don’t talk about the pain; they don’t talk about the struggle. How they turn to the Lord when they ran into trouble”. He even is not afraid to hold up a mirror to the people in his own faith. On the track “Dirty Water” he is really encouraging some humility to those in the Christian faith who do something good then they glorifies themselves because of what they did. Lecrae really shines on these mid tempo songs like these because he is able to connect with people in a way that sounds amazing. He is able to tell a love letter to his wife with “All I Need Is You” or even give a great description of the concept of the album with the song “Anomaly”. In the song “Broken” he tells of the feeling of brokenness that most people experience in life. It is a call out to God for help and really caries that anthem feeling and can leave you with major goose bumps. To sum it up this album is near flawless with amazing flow, professional lyrics and deep lyrics. There are a few songs that stand out on their own but they defiantly sound much better in the context in the album as one whole package. Its thought provoking, eye opening and it even has a couple bangers that keep the album entertaining but also make it inspirational. Lecrae as a person is going to be a huge person to help make moves for the kingdom in the future and he is starting again with this album.
