Scholarship Recipients: 2016-2017 Academic Year
I am a sophomore at Castleton University in Castleton Vermont. Academically, I am in the honors program and on the Dean’s List. My major is Criminal Justice with a minor in women's studies. I also play on the women's varsity soccer team. I have had the opportunity to do an internship with young sexual offenders during this school year and have also done an internship with the Springfield Police Department. I still continue to volunteer at Ronald McDonald House and instruct soccer to youth in this community. One of my goals is to study abroad in a country that I will allow me to gain some knew and innovative ways to deal with the ongoing issue of terrorism in our country.
My name is Luke Botkins, I attend Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. I am a double major in History and Religion and it is my Junior year. In the future, I plan to apply to the Peace Corps and eventually attend graduate school to take on a position as a professor.
My first semester of college was crazy, it went by really fast. I learned a lot about myself; and I made some great friends. I finished this semester with a 3.4 GPA. I was aiming for a 3.5, but it's okay. I really want a 4.0 in the spring. I did not get to be involved on campus, but I plan to change that next semester. I'm just happy that I didn't finish with any C's; and I did not fail any classes. I love USC; and I'm proud to be a gamecock.
I just finished up my last season with my college's (Hartwick College) field hockey team. I served as a captain for the last three years, and I'm transitioning into life without a team sport for the first time in 15 years! I finished the fall semester with a 4.0 GPA and I only have a few more nursing classes to take before graduation in May! I work two workstudy jobs, as a Spanish tutor and as a lifeguard. I have served as Vice President of three clubs and am preparing to train new members to take over the positions. I'm also looking forward to my nursing externship in the second half of the spring semester.
This fall semester has been quite an eventful time for me! I’ve been able to join a graduate lab regarding Neuroinformatics, I’ve received an internship position for health data analysis at UF Healthstreet, and I’ve also had the awesome opportunity to become a Resident Assistant for the fall! All the while maintaining a formidable GPA and overall academic status. I attribute a lot of my accomplishments to the assistance NLEAFCF has given me. Without a doubt, I would not have been able to make these great steps forward without this charitable foundation’s help. I am forever appreciative! Thank you!
I am adjusting well to college life. I just finished my first semester at Trinity and I love it! I have joined a few on campus organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and successfully organized a charitable bike race. Next semester, I hope to be even more involved on campus!
My name is Brett Moon and I am majoring in Construction Science and Management. I am also doing research on Building Information Modeling Management techniques. Additionally, I am involved with Habitat for Humanity and will be going to Alabama during winter break for a week to volunteer.
I just finished the first semester of Junior year at Holy Cross and made the Dean's List. I'm majoring in English and Psychology and was inducted to the international English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta. I'm a first baseman on the Varsity Softball team and am a Resident Assistant. I'm counting down the days until we open our season in North Carolina!
My name Lauren Perri and I was recently granted your scholarship. I currently attend Arizona State University and my major is Secondary Education for Biological Sciences. This past semester, I got adjusted to the weather change from Chicago to Tempe and the college life of constant homework. I learned how to balance my time with homework and in my free time I prefer to lay by the pool or go hiking. I enjoy walking to and from class because the weather is, on average, 80 degrees!
My name is Allison Roberts and I am a current recipient of your scholarship. I am attending Stonehill College as a freshman and I am a part of my school's senate. I help plan and coordinate activities for my school. I also help run fundraisers and facilitate clubs within campus. I am also a proud member of Stonehill’s Residence Hall Association, which helps to make sure everyone in my dormitory is happy and well adjusted to living at college. We also hold different activities within the dorm make sure that everyone is welcomed into the Skyhawk family. I am currently switching majors and I am excited for what the future holds for me. Thanks to the opportunity your scholarship provided for me, I have the ability to really learn who I am and what I want to do throughout my life. Thank you again for everything you have done for my family and myself, we are all grateful for your love and compassion.
With my dad having been permanently disabled and on Duty Disability Retirement from the Milwaukee Police Department, and being the youngest, my parents have done everything in their power to help me financially through college. So, any type of scholarship I receive greatly helps the financial burden of paying for college. At the present time, I am working on receiving my undergraduate degree in Radiologic Technology and am in the midst of my rigorous clinical rotation at a Level II Trauma Center. I proud to say that I have also recently been honored with membership in the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. I’m so very thankful to all who have made this possible. I’m very excited to be honored with this scholarship and am extremely appreciative of the support and am looking to “paying it forward” following my graduation.
My name is Jason Shandler, the recipient of the 2014 Vincent Bennett Jr. Memorial Scholarship. I am very excited to have the recipients featured on social media. It is a great way to show the donors that their investment in us is worth every penny. I am now in my Junior year at Cornell University studying Biological Sciences with a concentration in Genetics, Genomics, and Development. I plan to go to graduate school to become a genetic counselor. At Cornell I am part of Dr. Eric Richards's lab conducting research on the model plant organism Arabidopsis trying to understand the genes controlling the structure and function of the cell nucleus. I am also a part of the Cornell Undergraduate Research Board (CURB) working as a mentor to help fellow students find a research position of their own here on campus. I also hold a research position during the summer at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. There, I work with Dr. Andrea Viczian to research frog retina development in an effort to cure blindness. I am also on the Cornell Club Baseball team, traveling throughout the Northeast to play other teams. Thank you very much!
Hi, this is Jordan Williams. I previously wrote to you expressing my "Thanks", after receiving my scholarship. Since then, let me say that school is going well and I'm enjoying the college life. Academically, my grades are A's and B's and my Major is Information Systems. I'm very dedicated to completing my assignments as well as studying. Through the federal work study program, I received a small job working in the school Owl Tech store on campus. Again, thank you for all the assistance I have received from your organization.
