interaction tags / statuses are a way for people to set boundaries and let others know if others can interact with them, if they need to interact carefully, etc. it also allows others to know the persons mood.
note: it’s okay to not remember every single interaction tag, there are many after all and some are very similar (or pretty much the same). in this post are included all of the ones i’ve seen. ❤︎
this is mainly for people to see the meanings if they don’t know them, for people who might want to use these, or just for people who are trying to figure out what are these abbrevations used for in the first place.

【 introduction, things to keep in mind, masterlist 】
what are tone tags / indicators? they are abbreviations for words to indicate tone of text, tone can do so much to change the meaning or amplifications of a sentence.
why are they used? they are used because some people have difficulty picking up tone, and communicating through text can make it harder (due to lack of audio, physical cues, etc).
how to use tone indicators? typically by putting them at the end of a sentence but it’s okay to put them at the beginning as well.
when to use tone indicators? whenever saying something that is tonally ambigious that can be interpreted in many different ways. however, do not use them in excess, usually just one or two are enough.
where to use tone indicators? anywhere over text and anywhere that tone is hard to pick up on.
who can use tone indicators? they can be used by, and for, anyone.

things to keep in mind
never use tone indicators as a joke, it defeats the whole purpose of them.
do not make fun of tone indicators and people who need them, they serve a good purpose and help prevent misunderstandings.
and lastly, not all people (neurodivergent or not) need or even want tone indicators. people will usually have it somewhere on their profile and if not, you can ask them if they need tone tags.
note: nobody expects you to know every tone indicator, it’s okay to not remember them all. there are many after all. and it’s okay to ask for a reminder of what tone tag means. you do not need to use all of the tone indicators. ❤︎
