“I have lived in this neighborhood since 1982. Back then, this area was desolate. Boy, I’ve seen it change. The craziest shit I saw was definitely a shooting once. I was walking home with my and as soon as we cleared a corner, we see two guys standing in front of each other. Suddenly, one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other guy. My dad grabbed me and pulled me down. I watched the guy who got shot run down the block. He didn’t make it much passed the end of the street. He just collapsed and bled out. That’s not even that special of a story. When I was little you could just look out your window and see shit like that all over the place. Now, people are getting pushed out of this area, but I believe it’s for the better. For the first 15 years of my life, I saw a lot of killing and death. Before 2000 DC and after, is like a different world. Only 10 years ago, one of my grandfathers lived by the Union Station. He had to move out of DC because he couldn’t afford it anymore. Both sides of my family have been gentrified and pushed out. I lived here all my life and next week I am moving to Oregon for a job. It’s tough, but I think it’s better for the city.”
