Domain name providers
You domain name is your unique and custom url. There are many providers on the web who manage domain names. You have to pay an annual fee to the provider to keep exclusive use over your domain and depending on the domain you might have to satisfy other criteria. For example, the .au domain requries you to be a registered business in Australia by providing an ABN. Domain name providers may not offer all the domains available, only select providers offer the .au domain.
Below is a list of reputable domain name providers.

Using photoshop for the web
Today we are working with Photoshop to perform basic adjustments to our images and save them for use on the web.
View the accompanying slideshow for today's class: Using Photoshop for the web
At this point in the semester you should also have selected which service you are going to use for your website, a solid plan for what you will put on it and you should begin working on it. Please discuss your progress with me
A good resource for the WDC2 students working on their social media project. Worth a read for a range of strategies that cross different media.
Writing for your website
Take a look at the writing on some of the websites from the website examples post. Find the artist statement, about page and biography then answer the following questions:
Is it written in first or third person? How does this change how you feel about the writing?
What kind of words to they use? Informal? Academic?
What do these things make the voice of the writing like?
How long is the writing? Is it too much or not enough?
Who is the audience for this writing?
Use the CV page of some of the above examples as a guide for writing your own CV today.
The main sections on an artist CV are ususally:
Education
Group exhibitions (selected or full)
Solo exhibitions (selected or full)
Awards
Collections
Residencies
Related professional activities
Publications (these are typically academic writings either written about you or by you. This is usually separate to media that includes other media attention, like a blog post about you, a mention in a newspaper or an apperance on another site)
Even more free and paid themes for your site.
You might use this as a theme for your portfolio website.

WDC2 - Social media project update
This is an update for wdc2 students regarding the social media project. This is the final project for the semester and should be around thee to four weeks in duration. Hopefully though you continue it into the future. It is a fairly open project, the idea is to engage with another Web 2 platform that you can use to promote yourself as well as connect to your blog and website. Here are some ideas: -An “art bog”. One that is different to your regular blog because it has purely creative output. E.g. a drawing a day or a photograph a day. -A technical tutorial series (written or video). Giving instructions on a technical aspect of your knowledge. E.g. how to make a particular join or how to do a particular weave. This could be written on a separate blog or be a YouTube channel. This is a strategy that is sometimes used by businesses to contribute to their field and set themselves up as the experts. -Set up and maintaining a social media account (e.g. Facebook or Twitter) this is an artist account that you use to engage professionally online. E.g. the Facebook page of Andy Warhol artist. -An artist video. A short documentary or “trailer” about you. -E-commerce. Setting up and maintaining your online shop. E.g. one of Spoonflower, Red Bubble, Made It, Etsy, Big Cartel etc I would like to see a short proposal to make sure you’re on the right track. I want to revise what was already in the class details and ask instead for a simple paragraph emailed to me in week 9. It should say what you aim to do and how, also include a quantity and timeframe, e.g. one tutorial a week for 4 weeks, one 3 minute video, one drawing a day for 28 days.
