“what are you waiting for?”

daehyun stands in the front door with his arms crossed, eyes narrowed in anger. “what the hell,” he says, phone in hand. he’d only found out via text about ten minutes ago on his way back from the bonfire that his ex boyfriend was suddenly staying in his suite, with no reason, no questions, nothing. now he knows elijah is somewhere in the suite, out of sight though he can still probably hear whatever daehyun and june are saying. “this is my room, too!" 

if it was just daehyun, he wouldn’t be so angry. maybe it would give him a chance to talk about things, to apologize properly like he failed to do last time. even though it’s been days since elijah came to him looking devastated, daehyun couldn’t find the courage to actually talk to him about it – he’s been avoiding him all this time. which is why he’s so livid that suddenly he has to be stuck in the same room as him and his creepy hostile boyfriend. (or not-yet-boyfriend, whatever, but daehyun’s already caught enough pda between them to know that there’s something. gross.)

"i know you don’t like me, but you should’ve given me some more warning at least,” he huffs, sliding his sunglasses off and entering the room properly, finally resigning to his fate. “dick move, man.” he grumbles under his breath, kicking his sandals away before slinking off to his bedroom, where he’ll be locking himself away for the night.

as soon as daehyun pulls his suitcase into the room, he looks around, surveying the area. two beds- thank god. he doesn’t know who his roommate is yet, but he doubts he’d want to share a bed with them (there are only a few people he’d be willing to share a bed with…)

he lets out a sigh, taking off his sunglasses and setting them on the nightstand before swinging his luggage up onto his chosen bed - the one closest to the door, in case he needs to escape.

in the midst of unpacking, daehyun hears the door open. he turns, preparing some sort of funny introduction. but he stops in his tracks when he recognizes the person standing in the doorway as one the guy who keeps popping up in elijah’s instagram (well, one of the guys. there’s that guy named hobi, but daehyun doesn’t think he’s a threat.)

junhoe? that’s his name, right? hoe is right. of course dae’s seen the blast from only a few days ago, and no doubt junhoe knows he’s seen it. it’s just a matter of whether or not junhoe knows of dae’s past with his new beau. he doesn’t doubt it; he wouldn’t be surprised if elijah shit-talks him to everyone he meets.

daehyun is instantly put into a bad mood, shown clearly in the frown on his face as he turns back to his unpacking without a word. he decides right then that he hates gossip girl.

he can understand her putting him with the worst roommate possible, to watch him suffer. but on his damn birthday? does she even have a heart?

The Reason I Hold On

Hyejin knows that she truthfully has no real reason to be here, yet she trudges along up the stairs (exercise, she repeats to herself) to Daehyun’s apartment on a weeknight when she has work the next morning. Hell, Daehyun has even more work than her, what with him being a lawyer and all, but Hyejin is so, so bad at fighting impulses when her feelings are involved that she thinks of every excuse on the way to his door.

What if I pretend to have a cooking dilemma? she contemplates for half a second before realizing that she is, in fact, a chef at a well known Korean restaurant and that would be the worst excuse ever or just plain embarrassing.

What about not having any pepper in the house? she scratches her head. Nah, he was at my house yesterday. She shakes her head. Maybe involving food isn’t the best idea.

Hyejin is already at a loss for a reason. She’s generally a very good liar despite the fact that she always tries to be honest, but for some reason she’s always trying to make up reasons to talk to Daehyun even though he’s one of the few people who always sees right through her.

Hyejin sighs. She’s always complicating things more than she needs to, but the idea that she can want to be around people for no reason is still difficult for her to grasp despite however long it’s been that she’s known them.

She arrives in front of his door. The security guard had let her inside the building without a second glance because of how many times she comes around, so as of now, Daehyun has no knowledge of her presence right outside his door. If she really wants, she can just turn around and leave, pretending that she hadn’t just walked all the way from her apartment to his to waste his time.

Hyejin fidgets. But she walked all the way. It would be a waste of her time if she just walked back without even a peep at Daehyun’s direction. Decisions are so haaaaaaaaaard.

She’s so busy pacing everywhere that she completely loses track of where she’s heading, and walks in right into Daehyun’s door with a loud thud.

Oh, you’ve gone and done it now.

daehyun is busy fixing himself his evening snack when he hears the ominous thud on his door. he jumps (why is he so jumpy lately? is it the fourth coffee he just finished?) and his face scrunches a little as he squints at the door. what kind of knock was that? did someone kick his door? jesus. “what...” 

he leaves his sandwich and cautiously approaches his door, peering through the peephole. he blinks, recognizing hyejin’s warped face, and he smiles. his whole posture relaxes when he sees her, his bubbly, adorable jinnie who always manages to brighten his day -- just by existing (though he’d never say so aloud.)

his plans for the night had originally involved a scream marathon alone with a bowl of cheetos; he definitely wasn’t expecting anyone to come over, especially not hyejin. he feels a little bit embarrassed. he’s barely dressed and his blonde hair is still damp from his shower, not to mention the mess of his kitchen.

he opens the door, raising his eyebrows slightly at hyejin’s expression. “did you just kick my door? dummy,” daehyun laughs, stepping aside to let her in automatically. “what’s up?”

@247elijah submitted: Elijah knows he looks a mess; eyes bloodshot and puffy, the same Pjs he’s been sitting in for two days, his hair messy and falling into his eyes. And as much as he’d like to look altogether and calm for this conversation but he knows that’s not an option. He can’t get himself together until he talks to him.

Has what he been thinking this whole time been a lie? Has he been blaming himself and beating himself up for years over something that had nothing to do with him? Did Daehyun, after everything they’ve gone through, seriously not trust him?

He stomps to the other boy’s door, mere feet from his own, and brings his fist up to angry knock on the wood, sniffling.

the last person daehyun wants to hear from is elijah, but, of course, daehyun expects him to be the first one to react. it’s not like you can miss seeing a deadlock post. daehyun had lied to him for so long about what happened that year. how did he think he could keep it up forever? 

part of him, in all honesty, is relieved. elijah finally knows. finding out through gossip girl is probably the worst way to hear it, but at least daehyun didn’t have to say it himself. 

when he hears the rather aggressive knock on his door, daehyun looks over, knowing who it is immediately. he contemplates his options: he could ignore it, letting elijah cool off… or, he could open the door and finally give elijah the answers he wants (the answers he deserves.)

the lawyer exhales and sets down his phone, shuffling to the door in his pajamas, rubbing tired eyes as he prepares for what’s probably going to be the most upsetting conversation he’s ever had to deal with.

“uh.. hey?”
