"And donât forget to always check the money and credit card receipts before you close up for your shift.â
âYes, sir.â Taseun said for the hundredth time, paying attention to all the instructions the manager was giving him. It was not the first time he worked as a cashier, or even in a coffee shop, but it is always nice important to give off the good employee vibe. Ever since high school, Taseunâs life has been an endless turbillion of part-time jobs and freelance gigs singing at sketchy pubs. heâs got a lot of experience under his belt, managernim, don't worry. Â
His first three days working at Magok? Smooth sailing. All the clients were super nice bookworms. Taseun was used to that Starbucks endless chaotic frenzy with raging coffee driven zombies during rush hours, but the whole ambient of this coffee-shop infused bookstore was completely different.Â
It was, well, nice. Finally, a job where Taseun didnât feel like gouging his eyes off as stress relief. On his break, he would even get lost between the tall bookshelves, pecking through fantasy books. It sounded too good to be true.Â
Of course, life would show Choi Taseun, once again, that there is no such thing as a workplace where he could actually feel relaxed. Itâs called work for a reason.Â
It was a Monday, of course, when everything changed. His days working as a cashier in Magok would go from uneventfully blissfull to that gut freezing feeling you get when you dream youâre falling, only he would be awake.Â
âThank you, mam. Have a nice day.â He says to the lady paying for her skinny latte, smiling like he should, wearing his pressed beige uniform, mechanically going through his work.Â
And the next client in line was Kim Taehyung.Â
How would Taseun know that person in front of him, separated by the cash register, is Kim Taehyung, you might wonder? Very simple. They went to the same high school. Yes, high school back when Taseun was still his old self and heard of a Kim Taehyung having a crush on a Choi Taseun. Some people could deal better with the idea of a crush, but not Taseun, not then, not now.Â
His past was back to bite him in the ass, and he had the quick ninja reflex to yank his name tag off his uniform and throw it under the counter on a feverish flight or fight reaction. How the hell did Kim Taehyung know he was working there? Is he gonna get clocked?Â
âGood evening, whatâs your order number please?â Whatever, he had to shove everything down and try to focus on the words to say. Maybe it is just a fucked up coincidence.Â
